However if you have AppleCare+ that, and by association your display, is linked to your Apple ID.
I don’t understand, you’re saying if my XDR has AppleCare+, it will be added automatically to my AppleID?

In my experiences buying AppleCare+ including with an XDR most recently, I got an email with the subject "Your receipt from Apple" which includes the Agreement/Policy number followed by "Important: Complete the setup of your AppleCare+ coverage and link it to your Apple ID now."

[edited to add]. Disclaimer: for the XDR I haven't linked it yet.

I'm replying to my own note to say I'm now in the process of trying to link my XDR AppleCare+ to my Apple ID and apparently it's complicated. Despite the fact that I received an email telling me to link it and a second email reminding me to do that so I can "easily modify [my] billing details, including [my] payment method, if required", apparently the link page thinks the Agreement Number is invalid.

Apple support sees the XDR has AppleCare+ and doesn't know yet why the link page rejects my agreement number. They considered adding it as a secondary device to my Mac Pro but I hesitated to go that route since the Mac and the XDR have their own separate AppleCare+ agreements. So it's been escalated and I should hear back in a few days.

I'm sorry if I put anyone else through this based on my assumption this is a straightforward process. If it weren't for the emails from Apple telling me to link it I wouldn't have been so optimistic.

Thank you for the update. In my case is different, since I purchased the XDR used. The seller provided me with the original emails, printed. I have the agreement number, can you post that link? I presume it includes the agreement number inside.

Sure, the link is https://mysupport.apple.com/link. It will want you to enter the agreement and serial numbers.

I'm almost drooling at the pictures of your setups. I wish I would've picked a career after high school and made enough money to afford nice things.

That's very insightful, thanks. I have seen it not at boot, e.g. after sleep or removing and replacing the cable. So there's little commonality — it wouldn't be drivers/Windows itself else it wouldn't happen at boot. I wonder if there's a quality control issue with the cable so may order another; I'd also like to try the Belkin cable but it's v.hard to get hold of. I may also try this using my mobo TB header, with an aim to avoid the need for DSC...but am sure I've read reports it's a non-starter.

When it works, 6K HDR gaming (albeit @ 60fps/hz...but that's okay, honestly) with a 4090 on this screen is _incredible_, so I'm really keen to sort the stability.
Try to use shorter cables

Don’t do yourself short. I am by no means a high career person who drives around in his big Tesla, parking it on the big parking lot near his second dream villa.

I am self-employed, have my own business and am good at saving up. You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to afford nice things once in a while.

So, Apple Support got back to me. They ended up removing the XDR's AppleCare+, refunding me, and had me repurchase coverage. I got a new Agreement Number and Proof of Coverage mailed to my Apple ID's email. Now I can look it up at https://checkcoverage.apple.com/ which I couldn't do before and my name is shown there along with the relevant dates and the last part of the serial number.

It doesn't show at https://mysupport.apple.com/products/ (My Devices) and I haven't seen anything that indicates it's "linked" to my Apple ID but I'm confident there won't be any issues with regard to service in the future and I can always reference the support case if necessary.

So, Apple Support got back to me.
I transferred today the AppleCare+ from previous XDR owner to myself, over a 3way conference call. The rep was very unfamiliar with the process and put us on hold several times. He asked for my full name, phone number, address and AppleID, in order to complete the transfer. At the end, he did not provided any confirmation details and told me I will receive an email within 24-72 hours.

Could someone who has the Pro Stand measure how far the Pro Display XDR is reaching to the front when the Pro Stand is totally ‘level’ on the height? (so let’s say, the middle). Something a bit more down than like this?

It's not listed under My Devices at mysupport.apple.com. I don't know where else it might show up that doesn't require you to enter the serial number.

That’s what I thought, same for me, I have to enter the serial number to get the information. Based on your previous success screenshot, I thought the AppleCare+ info would show listed in a separate section under your Apple Support.

Thank you, @oogje! I just stumbled across a Pro Stand for 399 EUR (B-Stock). It's a steal, so I just ordered it. I will need a small trip to Germany again, but just around 40 mins away from my home.

Can I ask what website are you finding these deals on? I'd love to go look for a B-Stock XDR display...
