I completely agree with this. I also think now, as it relates to corporate ethics, one has to decide which company they find the most ideal for things like privacy and the like. Not trying to derail this thread, but you’ve brought up many good points. Thanks for the reminders.

Back on the subject, at this point, I’m keeping my new mini. It’s awesome.

Agree, that's what I mean by preference. Everyone values different things in a platform. For me, iOS provides the best overall combination of performance, security, privacy, ecosystem, apps, and support. Nothing else really matters for me in the long run. For those that prefer Android, they have their reasons and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

If display quality is important to you, I would say the larger display alone will give you more satisfaction, and the more PPI in the Mini won’t make as big if a different as Pro Motion.
The benefit of the Mini having a smaller screen means you can get away with not having the Promotion tech. Even The Verge reviewer mentioned this when reviewing the iPad Mini 5; even though there's no Promotion you don't really notice it. On bigger screens it's much easier to notice. When I was at Best Buy checking the new iPads out, you could easily see the omission of the tech on the new Air. On the Mini? Not so much.

Honestly. I love my Mini 5.

Here is my arsenal:

-iPhone XS Max (Love it as a Phone but I don't want to use it at home on the couch.. The narrow display makes most content seem squished in

-iPad Pro 2019 11" My "Desktop" iPad - I do mobile device management in IT and use it on my desk along side my MacBook. Probably my go-to for movies but at home after work just browsing or in bed.. it's way too big for me

-iPad mini 5, my go-between device. It's so comfortable to hold reading and browsing online, reddit, ect and even watching sports/netflix gets the job more than done. I'm actually fine with the bezels because it gives me something to grasp. The speakers are actually surprisingly loud on the thing but I do miss the 4 speakers of the Pro

Thanks, that's actually a really good point. Especially for me since Pro Motion anyway wouldn't affect reading nor videos, so all I'd be missing then is a tiny bit of UI/scrolling smoothness.

It seems Pro Motion also affects Pencil fluency though, which I guess would be just as noticeable on the smaller display. But I would mostly use it for note taking, no precision sketching etc, so probably not a biggie either.

All in all, if Pro Motion really is the only advantage of the Pro display (larger does not mean better for me as I prefer portability over a larger screen) then I'd definitely go for the Mini. Especially since the Pro with the more expensive Pencil 2 and other accessories would cost basically $600 more aka twice as much.

It's funny how this thread backfired. The OP said that they returned their Mini and instead you get quite a few folks saying they just bought one or thinking about getting one.

Ha! Count me in that camp. Been really itching to grab up a Mini. ALMOST did it today but will restrain myself until payday, when I'm pretty confident my self-restraint will crumble.

I have a 11inch pro and love it, but sometimes it’s just too much. I’m much more a iPad person than a iPhone person. No matter what I need to do I’d rather do it on the iPad.

I got a mini 5 today after renting a mini 3 from my library and loved it. The mini is a awesome device and I’m so happy to have it!

So awesome to hear! However, this is news to me that someone can rent an iPad from the library???

Add another one to the list, I'm seriously contemplating about picking up a Mini 5 soon-ish. After playing around with it in Best Buy I really enjoyed using it. Also considering how I broke the screen on my Kobo, I'm without an e-reader and the versatility, usability, and portability of the Mini could fill that void!

The mini is perfect in size especially for reading. You won’t regret it. I adore the new pros but they are no versatile at all.

I wouldn’t say it backfired, just the OP was being real about their experience which is refreshing. They got informed and made their decision based on their usage, fair enough. Have you actually bought anything? Tell us about it.

I don’t typically like posts but this was a great, well thought out response.

If the mini was 16:9 aspect ratio, I might consider it. My biggest issue is how much video you get on that tiny screen. I went to the apple store to check it out and it wasn’t for me. I love my iPad Pro 12.9. Even with more black bars at least I still get a lot of video from a larger screen.

(Or if they made video in 4:3 ;))

Why 16:9? There is plenty of great video in 4:3.

I’m straight up addicted to using my Mini 5.. and I have a iPad Pro 12.9 2018... it almost feels pointless to own the larger unit when this is just as powerful and way more usable in a casual sense.. trying to figure out how to keep the 12.9 in my rotation.. sigh
How is the mini's display compared to the Pro one, if you disregard pro motion? Say when reading a web page text in Safari with black background, how are the blacks and contrast?

My gosh, I regret returning my Mini 5 smh
I did it cuz I got a new XR but returning that now because of hardware issues right out of the box.
No either getting the iPad Pro 10.5, 11 or get the Mini back.

For the record, I have absolutely no intention of returning my mini. If a certain political party gains power in the UK and requires us to divest ourselves of all material possessions, it is going to have to be ripped out of my cold, dead hands before I give it up. Even then, I don't rate their chances.

Me neither, now I have my second Mini 5. I am tempted to get the Air 3 too. Life is too short and unpredictable in the UK right now. I just need to convince my husband

Now you're making my head spin. ;)

I know, sorry about that.

Anyway I've ordered the 256GB Silver Air (again), to be fair my first one did have an uneven screen, hopefully this one won't. Hubby has made the mistake of going out with the lads today, I can break the news to him later. I've ordered it online, coming Tuesday.

I just want both, and i have no excuses for that. I'll lose word and excel on the Air, but i'll have Pages and Numbers, plus everything is in Dropbox, so i'm sure with the larger screen i can live with Numbers, Pages is easy.

I have a similar setting (12.9 instead of 11) and I agree with you
