From wiki...

"A smartwatch is a computerized wristwatch with functionality that goes beyondtimekeeping. While early models can perform basic tasks, such as calculations, translations, and game-playing, 2010s smartwatches are effectively wearable computers. Many runmobile apps, using a mobile operating system. Some smartwatches function asportable media players, with FM radio and playback of digital audio and video files via aBluetooth or USB headset. Some models, also called 'watch phones', feature full mobile phone capability, and can make or answer phone calls[1][2][3] or text messages."

Sorry, Samsung beat Apple to it by years

Wrong. Look up their history before you start calling people names.

No they didn't. That wasn't a smartwatch.

Apple had their plans for a smartwatch back in 2013.

No sir. Apple had their plans for a smartwatch back in 2013. Before Samsung ever even mentioned it in 2014 about their Gear watches. Samsung jumped on that and announced they were coming out with one and rushed one out. Again, Apple was first to the table with the idea.

On February 10, 2013, both The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal reported that Apple was beginning to develop an iOS-based smartwatch with a curved display.[16] On February 12, 2013, Bloomberg reported that Apple's smartwatch project was "beyond the experimentation phase in its development", and had a team of at least 100 designers working on the project.[17] Further reports in March 2013 indicated that Apple planned to release the device by the end of the year.[18] In July 2013, Financial Times reported that Apple had begun hiring more employees to work on the smartwatch, and that it was targeting a possible retail release in late 2014.[19]

In April 2014, Apple CEO Tim Cook told The Wall Street Journal that the company was planning to launch new product categories that year, but did not reveal any specifics.[20] In June 2014, Reuters reported that production was expected to begin in July for a release in October.[21]

On September 9, 2014, during a press event where the iPhone 6 was also presented, the new product was introduced by Tim Cook as "the next chapter in Apple's story" with a video that focused on its design and the various combinations of bands and case styles that would be available to the consumers. After the reveal video, the auditorium was filled with prolonged applause and a standing ovation as Tim Cook reappeared onstage wearing an Apple Watch. Apple CEO Tim Cook explained that Apple Watch was "a precise timepiece, a new intimate way to communicate from your wrist, and a comprehensive health and fitness device."[22][23]
[doublepost=1481244442][/doublepost]

No sir, I was around when Apple showed their designs before actually announcing it. Them Samsung jumped on the bandwagon with their gear watches. Like I said, Apple was first with an actual smartwatch like the Gear ones.
[doublepost=1481244600][/doublepost]
Just like the touch sensor. Apple had it first. Then Samsung got it. Then Apple remove the headphone jack first, now Samsung on the S8 is removing the headphone jack. Now Apple wasn't the first on the two cameras, but it took apple to do it to get Samsung to do it on the S8. Also now a touch button for the home button, Apple did, now The s8 supposedly will have one.

Apple had Apple Pay first on the Apple watch and working before Samsung had it working on their watches. Both copy each other at one time or another, but Samsung has definitely copied Apple more.
Love it, so Samsung copied a concept Apple were working on is basically what you are saying WRT smart watch, that is the biggest load of BS I have ever read :D

No company will take a risk like that, products like that take many months and even years to work on.

Exactly. But the main reason everyone is abandoning the headphone jack has nothing to do with Apple and everything to do with the release of BT 5.0. Latency is now nearly zero and range extended 4 times current distance. Not to mention the space that is saved inside the phone.

I guess we're just pretending the original Galaxy Gear, which was released in September 2013, never existed.

Regardless, saying Samsung copies Apple any time they announce a product after an Apple rumor is completely idiotic. There have been countless rumors on upcoming Apple products, the majority of which turn out to be false. If Samsung couldn't release a product after Apple was just rumored to do the same, they wouldn't be able to do anything new.

To be fair, the impact is what probably counts more there. Apple wasn't first to add a fingerprint reader yet it wasn't something that actually caught on and went mainstream until they did it (and part of it was them doing it the way they did it where it wasn't quite as clumsy and unrealiable as it was on a few previous phones that did it where it didn't really quite catch on).

This is true; however, the iPhone was the first HIGH volume smartphone to remove the headphone jack. Hell, aside from us tech nerds on here, I highly doubt most could name 3-5 modern smartphones without the headphone jack prior to Apple removing it. Apple wasn't first with the fingerprint scanner either, but now look at all the flagship smartphones - they all have fingerprint scanners, for the most part. Apple has SO much influence on the smartphone industry. Give it another year or two, & none of the flagship smartphones will have headphone jacks.

Samsung will debut the phone in February, a full seven months before Apple debuts the iPhone 8.
This sentence summarize it all, they are not copying anything since there's nothing out yet, and claiming they are copying a rumor....... no need to add anything more.

I highly doubt Apple or Samsung would be able to eliminate the top and bottom bezels. Reducing the bezels on a device is usually one of the top complaints consumers have about devices nowadays. Just look at the flak the Google Pixel phones are getting for their giant bezels.

Like this :p

1025201634943PM_635_xiaomi_mi_mix.jpeg

Now the bottom is still there, but by using the integraded video button they can remove the bottm as well...

The Mi Mix (Xiaomi) uses an inductive speaker under the display.. BOOM... innovation! (it cost a lot less then S, G or A.... and it is very well built! oh and you can buy one today!)

Of course when Apple will release something similar ...they will be "the first" and all the other will be "copying!"

Before samsung they were which is what the discussion is about. They weren't the first with this or the fingerprint scanner, but both times they were before Samsung and then Samsung followed.

So Apple copied Lenovo then?

Also this is a rumor plus like many people have stated, the S8 will come out in April the Iphone 8 in September so even the hardcore fans should know what difference that makes.

Also removing the physical home button is a stupid decision.

Again you can't read. I SAID BEFORE SAMSUNG. I said they weren't the first. Just when they do something Samsung usually follows.

I think you cant read. It's a rumor you know what that means, at least I hope so. Same thing as the rumors about Samsung going 4k, 8 gb of ram and bezel less.

Also look at the designs they are nothing like the other, Samsung should return to function over form.

Nothing I said was a rumor. All facts. Like I said, you can't read.

1. Apple had the finger print scanner before Samsung.
2. Apple removed the headphone jack before S8. S8 already is confirmed.
3. Apple removed the button before Samsung removes theirs. Samsung confirmed.
4. Apple went two cameras, Samsung follows. (still unconfirmed).
5. Apple all sealed, no removable memory or battery. Samsung followed.
6. As history shows itself, Whatever apple does, Samsung follows.

None of those where first seen on an iPhone... so Apple copied someone else :p

1 Toshiba 2007
2 Moto Z was jackless before the iphone
3 Apple hasn't removed the butto, but I am prettu syre there are Nexus 4 without the phisical home button...and those were not the first either
4 there were dual camera phones before the 7s
5 same as above
6 whatever Apple does or Samsung does, everyone evolves, and R&D from different company might and usually do follow the same path (it is called CUSTOMER NEEDS), not because they copy, but because there is a trend.....

People want better cameras in phones, people want faster / more secure pins, better I/O wireless charging (will you be claiming that Apple did it first as well??)... it is called following people needs... but some prefere to call it copying!

At the end of the day, I don't care who invented what and who "stole" from who I let companies defend themselves about that, I care about having a better product, and guess what? as a customer I can't lose, I just need to decide wich phone does what I need best!

So how about:

1. Samsung Note big screen, Apple followed with the Plus
2. Samsung S5 water resistant, Apple followed with the iPhone 7
3. Samsung S6 Fast charging, iPhone 8 (rumored)
4. Samsung S6 Wireless charging, iPhone 8 (rumored)
5. Samsung Note 4 Edge, S6 Edge curved amoled, iPhone 8 (rumored)
6. Samsung took off the removable storage with the S6 which was a mistake, that's why they brought it back with the S7.
7. Samsung Galaxy Nexus doesn't have a home button and it came out in 2011
8. You kept arguing about the removable of the headphone jack, don't you think that maybe it's because BT 5.0 would become the standard. Remember LTE when it started rolling out, the world's first LTE smartphone was the Samsung Galaxy Indulge and the first North American LTE phone was a Samsung Craft. So did Apple copy Samsung again with LTE or it just became the standard.

The problem is all your so called iPhone 8 specs are all rumors. Samsung S8 specs are all confirmed.

Except when it came to touch is in the 5s, and 64 bit on the 5s, no head phone jack (courage). Waterproof is debatable as other phones other than Samsung had it first, as did phones with bigger screens.

What point was this? Some of what is being said has some truth to it.

Even if Samsung "copies" Apple's phone characteristics, aren't most of the changes consumer friendly?

Touch ID really made companies reconsider phone security on a mainstream scale. The headphone jack missing sucks, but it will spurn bluetooth development, so I expect Bluetooth to fully replace 3.5mm audio in about 2-4 years. Less buttons means additional screen real-estate, smaller bezels, and more room for batteries. Dual cameras are just a gimmick, but at least they are something consumers like. Unibody designs, as frustrating as some aspects area (removable battery and changing parts easier), are often nicer because you can add a glass back or stuff like that. Apple is copying stuff Samsung makes as well. Dual edge screens might come to an iPhone near you in 2017/2018. Any good company would look to what the competition offers and improve on it bring consumers into their folds. Some ideas cannot be patented, like unibody phones. As long as there aren't IP law violations, anything is really fair game for competition.

What you "fail to comprehend" as you put it, is how did Apple copy Samsung waterproofing if Samsung copied it from someone? The entire premise of this thread is weak. All phone manufactures use core technology from a few patent holders, and there is a lot of soft copying across the board with consumer trends.

I just have to comment that Apple and Samsung have copied each other for years. Even Steve Jobs admitted on stage that they take things from other companies. Copy and Paste was one of them. Steve even said that Apple may not have been the first to introduce copy and paste but it is always the best.

Samsung has taken away thee bezels on the side with the Samsung Curve Phones. I honestly think this is what Apple is doing. I don't think the top and bottom bezels will disappear completely on the next iPhone, but I am pretty positive we won't have any side bezels. I honestly feel like the top and bottom bezels will become smaller and more screen space will be added. The home button will disappear and that is what we will have. I am personally excited to see what the iPhone will look like and I am even more excited to get my hands on one.
