Finally got my S9 tweaked how I want it, and I absolutely love it. Performance is fast and smooth, screen is incredible, camera is awesome, and I love the feel and build in hand. At this point it's giving my iPhone X a run for it's money.

I'm using an app called "gesture control" plus an XDA tweak to get ride of the navigation bar that allows me to use my S9 similarly to how I use my iPhone X, swipe up to go home, swipe up and hold for multitasking, swipe right to go back. Love it.

That along with a pixel 2 theme from exposed, the pixel 2 launcher, and using Google apps as default (keyboard, phone, messages, calendar, calculator) it pretty much feels like a combination pixel and iPhone, but on Samsung hardware and features (such as headphone jack and Samsung pay).

Only gripes about this phone are I wish it had a flat screen, had smaller top and bottom bezels, and better battery life.

Here is a video.

Nice. Thanks for sharing. I'm interested in enabling gesture control on my Pixel.

What's your battery life? Mine last from 6:30am to 22:30 with 15-20% to spare. This include brightness at 80%, WiFi on and 8 hours of Spotify streaming with Bluetooth headphones.

What’s the xda tweak? That’s only thing coming from iPhone X, I keep swiping up by mistake!

It’s an ADB command you do in terminal (or command window). Just be sure you have an alternative navigation app installed (I use “gesture control”) and that you have the navigation bar set to show in settings.

It's hard for me to quantify battery life as I'm constantly charging through out the day (I'm on the road, so I'll plug it in while I drive). But from use the battery does go down faster than my S8 Active, Essential Phone, and is pretty close to my iPhone X.

Does the phone last a day without charging?

I haven't tried that yet, and I've already charged it again today, but I'll try tomorrow to see what I get.

Do so and let us know. If the battery life isn't good then there could be something wrong with your battery.

I also have an S6 Edge Plus which was bought just a month from my girlfriend's. Whenever we went out for the day, mine would run out much quicker than hers, and unlike me she doesn't even bother switching off bluetooth, location settings or WiFi.

My battery or CPU was clearly not right. After replacing the battery a few months ago, the phone lasted until 1700-1800 with no charging but that's still way off what my new phone is delivering.

Try pie control app. It is the best gesture app i have used. Just swipe in from edge at different angles to activate different functions. It is much more responsive than the gesture app you shown in your video.

S6 Edge had the worst battery ever on a smartphone. Mine would last like 1.30h of SOT no joking. I don't think something was wrong with the hardware?

1.30h isn't bad is catastrophic. I hope it wasn't like that from day one. Even my battery which was bad at 2.5 years of age lasted for 4-5 hours.

On a related note, the battery of my 4K remote was shoddy. Before I had it replaced after 3 months. It went from needing charged once a month to every other day. The replacement unit has one been charged once since I got it in January.

If something isn't right, make a warranty claim, especially if it's a battery issue and you are within a year of ownership.

Land of Smiles
Pretty much in the US this is the exact opposite. I wish Samsung had stores here. They really don't. Apple is light years ahead of Samsung when it comes to service and support in the US.
Whilst there is no denying the majority in US enjoy the convenience of Apple stores for service, which only appears free as it's in the paid price, many are frustrated by appointments and commuting in the hope it gets fixed in an instant, which is not always the case, but it remains the best.

However there is almost nothing splitting Apple and Samsung for tech support although Apple is technically only for 90 days, you have to fork out for Ac/AC+ for more.

Similarly there is nothing between most good OEM standard manufactures warranties

As for extended warranties these are not much more than risk based insurance and they all have there ups and downs and take your pick between OEM's, Carriers or independents for the strengths that suit your preferences

I do not see any need to deal with Samsung or other OEM's direct if you buy from good stores that also add extra customer service as middle men and often add their own exchange/refund polices

Pie control? Might have to look into it.

On another Note my Note 8 has amazing battery life and charges up MAD fast. That alone was a value when I thought about switching to the X.

You have the S9 I take it and not the plus version correct?
Either way if you do have this s9 how do you feel about not having the dual cameras and having the selective focus mode?

Not having the dual cameras doesn't really bother me, but that's because I also carry an iPhone X which does have the cameras. I guess if I only had the S9, it might bother me. But not enough to grab a plus model instead, I prefer a smaller phone.

Well, here I am at 2% almost 12 hours later. Battery life's not horrible, but I wouldn't describe it as great either.

What are some pros & cons between the s9 and X?
