I hate animations on most devices. On Samsung's I always either turn off or go to 0.5x in developer settings.

On iOS I turn on reduce motion in settings. This makes the whole thing fly without silly zooming animations. This gives it same quickness as best of Android.

Sense 6 is surprisingly fast though with default animations and lollipop on my Moto X isn't too bad, but yeah Samsung and Apple by default are horrible.

Windows Phones needs the option to speed up or turn off its animations too, it is one of the slowest UI's (though always fluid) because of its animations.

I usually am not a fan of animations and reduce the speed, but for some reason they do not bother me on IOS. Actually turning them off on IOS bothers me b.c there is still a delay before you can interact with the app or home screen.

Samsung Note 4 or iPhone 6 Plus? Foot in Each Camp...

There is an app called file app on the iPhone that will allow you to download and email any file from Dropbox.
that's not quite what was discussed. Might as well use Dropbox?
Tried that app you mentioned called File. It does not give the option to attach or browse files from your iPhone.

"it just works" was a marketing slogan and never reality. All the mobile ecosystems are sufficiently complex today. You can hand an iPhone or Note 4 or WP to a non-tech person and the steps they need to configure the basic functions are exactly the same - e.g. add Google/Apple/Exchange account, add online accounts etc. Basic things like phone calls is easy to use these days, and if you need to do anything more you'll need to learn the settings screens etc.

I very much agree, almost any mid grade smart phone or higher "just works", lol....a tech junkie should know this

That is the wrong app.

Once opened, click import then Dropbox.

Sorry if slightly off topic, just trying to help since you mentioned that was a pet peeve when you switch back and forth, and since others had been wondering the same figured I would just post it.

As far as the current discussion, I always took "just work" to mean more things are automated, meaning less steps (and less options) when setting things up. So if you don't want to deal with those steps or settings, you don't have to because Apple has already preset them and things "just work", but if you want to set things up differently then it doesn't just work.

Thanks for that. But it still does not do what was discussed. It still doesn't help with email attachments or file browsing.

I agree with him, you seem to dismiss relevant complaints, imo, as irrelevant just due to your use case

I disagree as It's a strawman arguement.the reason it's a strawman is it's such a general statement to be meaningless. It could be factual and a strawman at the same time. If it was really an issue to the masses I would think Apple would not have sold any iphone 6 and Apple would have learned its lesson and fixed the mail client. But that is not what happened.

Well, it doesn't allow a systemwide file system, but it will allow a local closed file system within the app that can be linked to Dropbox, so you can have some limited file system support, but have to import those files into the app or Dropbox to access them. Yes it's a workaround, but it's been in my experience the best option on iOS to do what people here have been asking about (ie attach music files to emails). Obviously it isn't as simple as android.

Noted for future reference. This is good info and equally good at illustrating what I mentioned about iOS making you contort for relatively simple tasks with varying degrees of success and irritation.

It doesn't do anything that isn't already available in Dropbox. I have dropbox installed. The use case I mentioned was i have music on my iphone purchased from Amazon in .mp3 format. My music preferences have changed and I would like to email my friend some of the songs. After i email them i will then delete them. So the apps you suggested will not work for my use case.

Strawman? Attachments are a basic function of email, its a legit complaint... Do a google search, tons of people care about it. Just because a sale is made doesn't mean the product is perfect I have plenty of complaints about android

Never mind this isn't worth it and I'm contributing to the ruining of this forum

Attachment functionality is a strawman... Lol what will you come up with next

Maybe it's best to accept that you are not going to be able to do it on an iPhone. Seeing as sending music isn't urgent, or I guess in your case it's not urgent, just make life easier and do it on your computer when you get a chance. Apple have always had file sharing locked down which is why you've never been able to Bluetooth ring tones and pictures across in the past. There are options for sharing things but accessing the file system is not possible on iOS and what you are asking is something that involves that. I think you know that because you are not new to Apple stuff. :)

Let me try once more and this is it on this subject. I have been using my iPhone for a year and have sent and received what I needed to without contortions.

I'm not saying the email client is perfect, but it works good enough for me, my s/o, kids and 10s of millions other.

You could web search for anything to prove a point.

I will say, in all my time owning an iPhone 4S/5/5S the whole email attachment thing wasn't a huge deal. I don't recall it ever turning my experience upside down, and 99% of the time I was just as well served just sharing as an email from the app itself.

This doesn't take away from my Note 4's ability to attach just about anything from anywhere.

And my point is that it is a legitimate deficiency. I'm glad you dont need the feature good for you. You dont seem like much of a power user from your previous posts and your needs are not as robust

For me it is actually one of the main differences BTW the 6+ and the note 4

I used aniphone 4 for 3 years and had to jailbreak for the feature

Can you define power user? I'm not a power user because I'm okay with the email client? Interesting definition but okay.

The IOS email client lies between ms outlook and a flip phone. It may not do everything you specifically want it to, however I'm glad there are options for you.

I just can't value your input if you can't acknowledge iOS' attachment functionality as a weakness despite whether or not you need it

One of the main reasons I left iOS for my phone and you are telling me it is an irrelevant strawman

That kind of negates the "it just works" thing IMO. Maybe "it just works for me" is more appropriate.

here's an example of such a high level generalization, that some may refer to it as a strawman.

"The IOS mail client doesn't support attachment functionality and therefore is unusable"

There is s lot to argue about in the above and it flat out doesn't apply to everyone, which means it's a false statement.

A better way of writing the above, which isn't a strawman.

"The IOS mail client does not have the same flexibility to manage attachments as ms outlook and therefore I cannot use it because I require that flexibility".

I totally get the latter not the former.

To be fair we have gone a bit off the beaten track to find something the iPhone has difficulty doing in order to challenge that sentence though. We could discuss any phone on the planet and find tasks that would challenge it, however I think saying 'it just works' is fine as for most users we can be sure it most probably does. Still I suppose if we were not pedantic in these topics the discussion would be boring. :)

i'll try to define what a power user means to me.
power user is someone who uses there for just about everything just as if they were sitting home on there desktop.,
1.so say someone hands you a usb sitck and says here copy this file real quick and give me the stick back. no problem i say gimme a few mins to pop that sucker in my note4 and get a copy of the file.
2. you meet with a client and talk about a new project. he says could please give me a quick flow chart on how all the phases are going to be done. no problem again. just pop out my handy dandy spen and draw up a quick flow chart.
3. you just download the new movie unbroken to your phone and a friend wants a copy of it. no problem copy the file to the usb stick and hand them the stick so that they can copy it to there phone.
4. your watching a video but don't want to stop or pause it but need to answer a few text messg and a few emails. no problem split screen multi-tasking now i am doing both simultaneously.

Power users are a pretty new thing then seeing as many of the demands were only introduced to the market in the last couple of years. Perhaps Apple will add more features with the 6 Plus S and satisfy these people? I do a lot on my phone for work but am keen to state I am not a power user. I don't get time to be on a phone that much in my spare time lol :)

Is that ever a setup scenario or what! A new client has been scheduled for a video call. You need to drive the presentation whilst on the video call with attendees from all over the world. Does that meet the definition?

I have no need for your use case it doesnt happen to me in the field and i don't watch videos during work hours on my iPhone. A quick flowchart is easily typed up on pages as text and I don't have to worry about a pen.
