Will alcohol wipes slowly remove the olephobic coating?... like the wipes that come with glass protectors.

I'm not saying that I don't know where scratches come from. Thanks for all the sarcastic comments. I'm merely pointing out that it seems odd that the phone's screen got scratched so easily, and I was wondering if there were others facing the same problem.

I too have noticed the screen scratches easily. When compared to the iphone 6 and iphone 5. I have never used screen protectors and haven’t had any issue in the past. A week with this phone and small micro scratches are visible.

All the lectures and shaming on using screen protectors was super helpful. My screen naked still looks better and feels better with scratches than it does with a screen protector.

It's a brand new wallet I just got for my birthday it's leather. For being a week old it's way too many compared to my 7 plus. Is it possible it's defective?

You say you have kept your phone against your wallet. If that is so, wallets tend to pick up a lot of foreign material that can easily leave microscrstches on a screen.

I also noticed the micro scratches, especially when the phone goes black and it’s under bright lighting, however a good wipe with my iKlear microfiber cloth damped ever so slightly with IKlear cleaner/polish spray works wonders in making that screen like new. I don’t use a screen protector because it makes swiping on the screen just doesnt feel right to me.

I tried cleaning cloth with spray, they can only be seen when screen is off under bright fluorescent lighting, very obvious at certain angels and long across the screen in a few cases. I am just upset cause I never put this phone in my back pocket and though I always wear jeans I never placed it towards the fiber, always against my wallet which barely gets taken out of my pants pocket either.

I also have to agree the glass scratches easily. I've got four scratches on the front glass already, and I've treated it pretty carefully. I suspect it's gotten scratched from carrying it around in my front pocket, or maybe I had some dirt or sand on my hand. It seems like it's worse than previous iPhones... of course maybe I just notice more because the black screen is so beautiful!

Then wake up at 6am tomorrow am and try order another phone through Apple store app for in store pick-up and then return the scratched phone as you are still within the 14 day return period.perhPs use a screen protectors moving forward.

I was literally thinking of this, on previous releases seemed much easier to do in store tracking in the evening, this time they never show up in the evening, so they only do in the morning is that right?

FYI, I keep my phone on my front pants pocket (always have); but I keep the screen against my leg (i.e., the pants "fiber," as you say), with the wallet above the phone. Never had a problem this way...

(...except, to prove my point, when I was using a wallet with a little metal owl embedded in the leather, and I accidentally scraped the screen on top of it rather than underneath!)

Have been methodically keeping me phone in my side pocket facing my wallet rather then back pocket. Just noticed today there are a ton of micro scratch's on my screen. Anyone else have this issue? I really didn't want to use a screen protector but it's crazy

I definitely do. I spoke to apple about it after suggesting its some sort of glass defect and they seemed to mostly not care. It's definitely weird to me since I am not stranger to iphones and have gone without a screen protector on them and it's honestly just really bad this time around. It's honestly very disappointing. I keep my phone in my pocket with nothing else.

I’d bet the bank on your leather wallet as the culprit.

You have no idea how that leather wallet was tanned or processed. There could be tiny particles of silica or other industrial grit embedded in it. Some tanning processes use metal based chemicals. Sometimes leather is buffed with a variety of compounds which could have abrasives. If it was ever dropped on a street or a dirty floor, even before you bought it, it absolutely could have picked up fine abrasives that became embedded in the grain.

And leather is tough. Back in the day (and maybe still), barbers used to sharpen their straight razors on a leather “strop”...a piece of cowhide or horsehide stretched tight that was used to give a steel blade the sharpest possible edge. If it can hone steel, leather can put some micro abrasions in glass.

Weird.

I have 0 on my screen thus far and my prior phones have been notorious for micro scratches on the coating.

I use a silky cloth I got from my Raybans to clean my screen and glass. I also clean it once a week with rubbing alcohol and let it dry to remove any dirt/lint/sand that can cause these abrasions.

I had a scratch one the front screen the first day. A microscratch, but still a scratch. If I look at the phone at an angle in bright light, I can see many microscratches but the first one I got is still the most noticeable in the light. Most people would probably say my screen has no scratches, but I know they're there.

It really doesn't take much to finely scratch the iPhone display, even the scratches that you can't physically see unless under certain lighting. Even your finger dragging across the display could cause micro scratches that's unavoidable. The best solution for any new iPhone display, is use a screen protector if somebody is ultimately concerned about protecting it.

I am reading people offering their theories, but I have to ask, is this your first iPhone? If not, did you treat your other iphones the same way (same pocket, with wallet, etc.)?

Yes it can.

I use a silky cloth that came with my Rayban glasses.

You can also use a micro fibre cloth with a mixture of 50% water and 50% alcohol. Less harsh on the coating.

I would never keep my phone’s screen against leather. That’s asking for trouble, IMO.

I never use a case nor a screen protector, and have always kept my phone in my right front pocket or my left bra cup, always with the screen against the fabric. I have never had scratches on the screen.
