Series 3, cellular, with iOS 7 was crashing/restarting 4-6 times since the update. I had noticed it was crashing/restarting every time I looked at or raised my arm for the time/message. I remember Siri had a watch function Raise to Speak. Turned it off. No crashing/restarting ever since. Not sure if that was it or just my luck.

Open Apple Watch app--Siri--Raise to Speak--toggle off

I dont think that caused the problem. On my watch "Raise tot speak" was off all the time.

I believe it is due to loss WiFi connection, cause it only happen to me when I left my home. (It only happen once a day, even I out and back home many time a day)

So! I managed to restore it to watchOS 6.2.1 and update it to 7.0.1 and it works like a charm till now.
The steps are:
- on the apple watch give it erase all content and data
- on the iphone unpair it.
- delete all watchOS back-ups and leave the old one that was working.
- delete the watchOS file system.
- when pair it again give it restore to the back-up mentioned above.
- wait for it to install.
- reboot both iphone and apple watch and power them on first iphone second the watch.
- update the watch to 7.0.1.

Strange thing:
- the space on apple watch was full with music and other staff after the update it’s plenty of space available.
- when trying to update directly to 7.0.1 from 7.0 it told me that the watch wasn’t connected to the same WI-FI.
- it kept all the settings that work just fine before this update.

Hope it will help you guys!

I’m trying to update my S3. It says it’s loading but watch just went full black screen and nothing happens in terms of updating or loading. It warns that don’t take watch from charging or turn off and on but what do I do? Just wait for a bit if it’s going to be updated?

edit: it went back to normal And updated successfully. I did nothing but wait. It’s really strange it just went full black before updating.

Sorry mate but i didn’t stay near the watch to see if it goes black or not but what i can tell you is that if you follow the steps that i’ve mention in the previous post you’ll get it to work. I don’t know if it is the new watchOS or the fact that i’ve restore it to 6.2.1 but from last night till now it works great and no reboots.

I’m in the processing of updating and the same thing happened. The watch went black and the Watch app shows it’s installing. I was wondering if the update bricked my S3 watch but your post gives me hope. Guess I’ll keep waiting then.

This! It noticed it happens when i walk outside or back inside, so when the wifi disconnects/connects.

My Watch Series 3 is crashing/rebooting. It happened in a shop as I was about to pay for something. Got used to my watch just working all the time, I've had to load my cards onto my phone now just incase it happens again. Very frustrating.

I'm in the process of installing the 7.0.1 update. Has this helped reduce the amount of reboots? Checking the release notes, it just says no CVE updates. The official "fix" in the release has something to do with Payment cards... something I don't necessarily care about

I’m using 7.0.1 since this morning I’ve had 0 reboots so far. If it’s not a coincidence they solved that issue.

7.0.1 did not solve the issue for me, updated my phone and watch last night after a fresh restore of the watch hoping it would solve the issue. I have caught it restarting at least 3 times already, and its killing my battery! Chatted with an apple rep and they told me I would need to send it in for repair out of warranty. After sending them a link to this thread that was still their response. Super frustrating and not a usual apple response I am used to receiving.

Dang. Same. Rebooted twice, after update to 7.0.1.

I have noticed however, that the reboot happens ~5min or so after leaving my house (disconnected from Wifi) and being on the road.

On the days I haven't left my house (don't judge me, we're in a pandemic :p) my watch didn't reboot at all

What I am finding is when my iPhone switches from wifi to Cellular network I get what I believe to be a timeout on the watch and a reboot

I think there is an issue there. When I am home and on a Wifi Network everything is stable.
I also tried turning off Wifi on the watch and left it as Bluetooth to the iPhone and still had the problem when leaving the house and losing the Wifi Connection

It is very possible it is IOS 14 issue with the watch and not the Watch OS 7 at all

Same rebooting issue here. About once every hour. Ran through all of the standard troubleshooting steps. Called Apple, shipped it to them they found nothing wrong. received it yesterday noon time paired to phone. No issues The remaining part of the afternoon. Updated to os7.0.1 and now it is randomly restarting again. it is about once an hour right about the time the update finished. going to leave it crashing for the next couple of days and call Apple again so they can get the crash reports. I should have not updated......

I chatted to Apple Support who ran some diagnostics, they've said they are aware of this issue and they're gathering info on it - hope for a fix soon - to be fair their support is top notch they did remote diagnostics, estc

With WIFI disabled on 7.0.0 I had one probably reboot- I didn't see it but I looked at my watch and had to enter my passcode and my rings were not filled in (they normally take ~5 to "sync" after a reboot). After my update to 7.0.1 my Wifi toggle was switched back on which ruined that test, and I've had 2 reboots since the update so no dice there. I'm disabling Wifi again but I don't have a lot of hope.
