I hate that you have to be on wifi to use it. My entire house is wired with cat6 so pretty much everything is hard wired and it doesn't make sense to not use my iMac hard wired just for sidecar. it should honestly work if both devices are on the same network.
I agree. Apple has always focused in wifi and often times left cellar dancing in the tech wind.

It's not exactly the same setup, but I'm using my M1 iMac side by side with a 27" 2560x1440 display (same size&resolution as 27" non retina iMac). Scaling is fantastic, since objects on the M1 screen are physically the same size as on the external display (same logical 109 PPI). I can see the retina/non-retina difference, but for the most part it doesn't bother me. I use the retina screen for text.

As you can see, my desk is just a bit too small to fit 2x27" displays, so the 24"+27" is perfect.

I also have a late 2013 21.5" non-retina iMac with screen yellowing and dust stains in the bottom corners. The M1 screen blows the old 21.5" iMac away.

I've got a 27" 4K LG screen here and I can't decide if I want to hook it up to the new iMac or not. I'm quite enjoying having the increased focus of just a single screen, but at the same time, more screen real estate is always a good thing right? Even if I just have the second screen showing my daily calendar and todo list maybe.

My other idea was to maybe try sidecar with the same intention.

Still have to actually set up the desk and manage cables (there’s a whole big mess off to the right that I hid ), but this thing is gorgeous! My 2012 MBA can finally be laid to rest with its unusably depleted battery.

I'm personally bummed that I didn't notice the extended keyboard option on ordering, as I'm a big number cruncher. However, I will likely be better served by a separate numerical keypad anyways.

Ergonomically, I try to minimize the distance between home row and the pointer. Reduce travel when switching from typing to pointing.

You can put the 10 key on the right of the pointer but I ended up putting my separate 10 key on the left and learning to type numbers left handed. Takes some practice but overall more comfortable.

Good. I've been waiting to see a side-by-side comparison with a 27" monitor. I would also use the retina screen for text. With the iMac as the main display, how much do you notice the loss of screen real estate?
No complaints here, it's awfully close to a 2560x1440 so feels fine having both side by side.

I find sidecar somewhat clunky and much prefer a dedicated external monitor. I use the second display as either a baby monitor or to Remote Desktop into my Win10 machine for data analysis (I just switched my workflow from a VMware virtual machine to a Mac mini with dedicated windows and it's still taking some getting used to). I need some essential windows-only software for work, and until I can run x86 virtual machines on the M1 then I'm stuck running this extra computer.

I’ll give this a shot. Thanks! Look forward to retraining myself for this.

I use sidecar without WiFi. I use a USB C cable once the devices trust each other. I think I had WiFi on the first time tho now it works without it. Using USB C also cuts all of the lag and performance issues out.

Does anyone have a pic of the bezels with dark mode?
So far after a few days I don't even notice the white bezels, and I've been using an iMac with black bezels for the last 9 years. I only notice them when the computer is sleeping and I walk into my room :p let me know if there's other pictures you'd like to see

As per the title, let's see your 24" iMacs in their new homes.

I'll kick it off with mine.

Silver 16/512
I like it a lot!!!!

Question: What's the default colour accent for the silver iMac in Finder and the rest of the OS? Is it silver/grey or blue? The other iMacs have matching colour accents so I was just wondering if the same applies on the silver model.

-----------------------------

I'm madly jealous with everyone posting pictures of their brand new M1 iMacs while I'm stuck with my Early 2008 C2D iMac. :D

Please keep those pictures coming; I'd love to see more of your setups!

Finally got around to setting it up (only took 3 days). And, yes, I cleaned everything off the desk since things will be moving.

the orange iMac looks way more pink/salmon in the photos. I love the back. I like the stand and peripheral accent color. Not a big fan of the chin color, but I honestly don’t notice while using it. Then a picture of it with an UltraFine 5K. It’s darker and odd looking because it’s at 0.5x to get it all in from whew I was sitting. That’s why the trackpad looks sideways. I’ll remove the monitor arm and put it back on a stand so the screens are closer in height. I’ll need a few days to see how it feels using on a smaller screen on one side. Should be fine though.

Im thinking of reorganizing the office and rotating the desk 90 degrees so if you come in the door you can see the back of it. I like the color that much.

I was able to play with all the colors at Apple, the best are Blue, Purple and Green. The red if you are looking at it from behind is too loud, orange feels the same but is tolerable, yellow is probably the fourth safest choice along with silver.

If I didn’t purchase the M1 MacBook Pro last year, I probably would strongly be looking at one of these. But when the larger screen model comes out (which I hope will be available in colors too), I likely will cave in. Look at the price range, I see 1,899 as the the likely starting point with storage pushing up the pricing even more.

The Camera on the new iMac is really good.
