What padding did you use for the bottom? A solid platform?

I don't know if you're referring to my post; I'd recommend instead of ^^^ using the forum's quote function, and just delete the pictures in the quote. That way the person you're replying to knows you're replying.

There's very little padding on the bottom. It's Vivo's heavy duty under-desk:

Yes. A bit lazy this morning. Looks nice and was worried it might scratch the case which is why I was asking about padding.

Fair enough. But personally if I wanted to do the job, I would have invested in an ugly PC case with a Ryzen processor. :) I am paying Apple tax for this beauty on top of performance.

No pictures just yet, but mine came in today... Its just that little bit smaller than the 4,1/5,1 its replacing, but still making a presence in the room.... just set it up temporarily but also waiting on more RAM, and the WX9100 before I put it in its proper spot. I got the pegasus drive add-on, and I'm ordering the 4TB drive from OWC and I might move a USB-C card from my Z800 into it just for another couple of USBA&C connections. Its whisper quiet, I haven't put it through its paces, but I'm very happy with the purchase.

Hi all!

I like these types of threads which show off people's setups. It's always very interesting to look at. =)

I don't have a Mac Pro 7.1 but I couldn't resist sharing a picture of my current setup. It's my "new" home office to work in during the COVID-19 crisis. However, my friend told me it looks more like a home arcade setup. ?

Not the final layout as I got the 7,1 two days before we went into lockdown, so now its in the office for 6 weeks while we're locked at home, but regardless, this is my office

AMD Threadripper - 64core, 64GB RAM, Quadro RTX4000 (current windows work machine)

Big thumbs up on the multiple platforms.
I currently have 3 PCs, one 7,1, one 27 in iMac Late 2015, multiple mac laptops in the editing office. I simply can't understand how you can run a video or audio company and not have multiple computers. Its like a musician only having one instrument. Crazy.

Cheers. I also have a couple of Linux boxes in the office but I don't use them much. Most of my work (Engineering) is done on Windows, otherwise I would be full Mac OS, but I do have to be across all of the platforms. I like the idea of moving things over to Linux but at the moment I don't have the time, or energy to play with Linux when I have Windows and Mac already. Maybe one day I'd like to move some of my work over to the linux machines, but for now everything just works and I don't to have to mess about with anything really. I'm going to keep the old 4,1 on Mojave because one of the games I play is still 32bit and I can use it once in a while, but I'll probably use it more for downloading and just a spare Mac OS machine. If you want to get into the hardware porn, I've got a server that's full of SSD's for every day work, and an archive server that's around 120TB, and an XServe 3,1 with an Xserve RAID that's sitting on the floor waiting to be put in to the rack I have just for ****s and giggles, plus a G5 Tower for no reason at all also.

Now with all of this **** going on, and being in a 6 week lockdown, its all in my office just gathering dust for now until I can head down there and play with it all.

I recently had to move, so I'm staying with my folks until I figure things out with the craziness of the world right now lol. That said, I've been trying to build a travel load out that will work for home desk use as well as pretty much anywhere I might desire to work (I do audio and video production/editing). Currently in the process of acquiring this list of stuff (as well as changing it as I acquire items). Some items are supplementary, or require items not on the list; do as you desire with those, but I would genuinely recommend checking it out if you do similar work. Here's a look at what I have going while I'm without a desk or studio... in my down time >.>

IMG_1486.jpeg

The case on the side has about 20 items in it, from cables to a power bank and TF cards. The mouse shows the internal temps with the scroll wheel led and the light bar on the side; iPad 6 gen acts as a decent secondary display on the move (depending on what you need); and the desk mat has always been a favorite option of mine over a normal mouse pad. Don't be afraid of them.

I really have had a pretty good experience with basic video work on this setup (I like to keep things simple), and I know what I was capable of with a fraction of the power when I did full time music production a few years back (I didn't even have 4 threads on a 2 Ghz CPU then). I know I'll do fine with audio work now, but still waiting on the goobermant to give me my monies back so I can pay off some loans and by more crap on loans! ? I really need an updated sound card (still using my Line 6 UX1 from ages ago), some proper cans, ya know what I mean. Not trying to record platinum records, but I'm not simply putting in stock sound effects over your spring break party footage lol.

I'll post an updated version as more stuff comes in. Might be a few months, but still can't wait to expand to full capacity. If you have any suggestions for my linked shopping list, give me a holler! In my usual style, it's littered with notes and some suggestions on use and alternatives. I've worked hard to build it, and I hope some other people find it useful for a few items ?

edit: the Amazon list I've linked was updated on 9/3/20 with a new mouse... my Corsair crapped out after 17 days of use (probably a lemon). Switched to the Razer Basilisk Ultimate, and even without Mac support it has outperformed the Corsair in this picture by miles. Trying out some workarounds for mapping the buttons on Mac, but I think I'll just program it with a Windows box and accept my losses with temp monitoring (for now). As you may know, my work requires precise mouse movements, and I'm always happy to overspend in that department if it makes my life easier. Unless I change my mind, or find a better mix of compromises, the Basilisk should be in the next picture posted. Feel free to message me with mice options you recommend from personal use!
