Isn't the next Itunes update going to do the exact same thing

I thought apple was releasing an update to itunes that would allow us to stream the entire itunes library on our iphone/ipod touches? Doesn't that mean that we wouldn't have to pay the $3 once this app exceeds 100K downloads? Maybe i misread somewhere.

I wonder if this is going to be another app that gets removed?

I'd of thought this would fall in to the VOIP category of apps - Apple are happy as long as its over Wifi only but not over 3G or Edge due to the amount of data traffic it will cause.

so far this app hasn't been very reliable. dropped library, skipping, stuttering. and I'm on wifi, sitting right next to the router. oh well, you get what you pay for.

Mine was "Scanning Libraries" all night, when i woke up it was done and said i have music shared. When i undocked my iPhone the shared icon in iTunes went away and now its "Scanning Libraries" again. Other then undocking the iPhone i didn't press anything else, whats up with that?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_0_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5B108 Safari/525.20)

Haven't tried it today but worked great over both wifi and 3g yesterday.

that was just a patent application. who knows when/if they'll actually release an app like that.

Their servers are really taking a beating. It was working great while most of the world was asleep. Now that everyone is waking up and playing with it again, it's slowed to a crawl.

I'm not worried in the least, though. I have 8 emails from the dev team in my inbox, starting around 11pm last night. They seem to be working in shifts to get this up and running as smoothly as possible. I'm impressed.

Not to mention the amount of money this has to be costing them. 100k free copies? Even if they had started that at .99, they'd be out $70k.

In the next day or two the growing pains should work themselves out, and this will run as smooth as it's meant to. Just wait it out.

Mine is still Scanning my library. Taking quite a while too, but should be cool once it's done. The Friends sharing sounds really good too - nice to see other peoples libraries and tastes!

Anyway, back to the waiting game....

I have to agree with Slapguts...servers are getting pounded. Worked great yesterday and today it can't manage to hold on to my library. It keeps re-scanning which then kicks my iPhone out of connection.

I guess they should have been up and ready to support 100,000 downloads...lol

A few reasons I still prefer http://www.dottunes.net/iphone.html to Simplify are:

1) I have created different usernames and passwords for my friends and each user has access to different playlists - you can't do this with Simplify

2) dot tunes lets me play all my DRM tracks

3) dot tunes lets me stream my movies to my iPhone

4) no buffering issues with dot tunes. My connection isn't sent through a remote central server it's direct from my iPhone to my desktop dot tunes

5) No user limit with dot tunes as there is with Simplify

6) No central server able to monitor my use of the app, what I share or what my friends listen to. If Google is forced to give up their user data, who's to say Simplify wont have to at some stage

7) My friends who don't yet have an iPhone can also listen to my library via their web browser without installing any software

8) Can share my library within a home network with no internet access

9) With dot tunes I have admin access via my iPhone where I can create new user accounts and update access of my users

10) I can leave dot tunes tracks playing on my iPhone while I return to Springboard and the tracks keep playing in the background

Ok so I've been using dot tunes for a while now and I'm a big fan but these are just 10 things I've come up with off the top of my head...there is a lot more. For example, I've been testing the latest beta and it loads my 25,000 track library in around 15 seconds. Anyone like to comment on how long it takes to load 25,000 tracks with Simplify? I'd reveal how long it took for me but you'd think I'm exaggerating.

Dot tunes is like the big brother to Simplify. I mean, I can do things like browse my library on my iPhone and create favorites then when viewing my favorites I can enter a new playlist name within dot tunes on the iphone and send the new playlist back to dot tunes on my desktop app where it gets auto created in my iTunes app - presto! a new Playlist containing tracks I've selected on my iPhone. Then I create a new user/pass for a friend and give them access to this new playlist - all from my iPhone. I do this all the time and it works like magic!

do you work for DotTunes? I just want to know if I'm getting an unbiased opinion here...:)

also, I did try DotTunes. I found the desktop interface WAY to confusing. I like that it is robust, but for what I wanted to do (just have acess to my library) i found it confusing with all the plug-ins, etc.

not to mention it appeared it would cost me $20 to get it work on my iPhone. and there's no native iPhone app--it's web only, so no bells/whistles like album art, lyrics, artist bio, correct?

if at least I could TRY the iPhone part without paying $20 I would. but $20 is way to steep for something I can't even try out.

Same thing here. it was working fine this morning now, with all the new users its really slowed down.

My Simplify Media program on my computer keeps losing connection evry now and then and has to rescan.

Also my iPhone is now stuck on connecting to libraries even though on my computer it shows that my computer/itunes is connected and has 5,806 files available.

I'm sure they will get all the bugs worked out, still a kick ass app.

the app is not bunk, it was working GREAT for everyone last night, they probably jsut had a flux of new users.. on top of that, it has to do with your home wifi connection as well.

Stock no more!!!!!!

I was stuck on loading library screen but here's what i did to make it work.

1) Restart after you install SimplyMedia on your computer
2) Turn on sharing in iTunes
3) On the iPhone, go into setting and "reset the database."
4) Started working in seconds.

Also the app gives you artist info and lyrics!!!!!! This is absolutely awesome. I would have paid alot for this app, but the fact that its free is ridiculous! Thank you SM

I've found that if you get a drop on your pc, signing out and then back in again (in the SM app) seems to restore connections.

But must admit, from yesterday's sweet experience, now that the world and his wife have found it, it seems things have slowed just a little.

I do confess to being a fan of dot tunes as I've been using it for many months now. I'm actually a music producer and use dot tunes as part of our means of collaboration with the team.

Here is a link to their latest beta: http://music.dottunes.net/DOT.TUNES_OSX_4.2beta.zip

The beta has a greatly improved UI, extremely fast iTunes importer and other improvements. For me the best new features are Play All and shuffle in the iPhone interface and a Subscribe feature which lets me subscribe to my studio playlist remotely and my home and studio playlists stay in sync.

You can get a good handle on the app without the plugins by importing your iTunes data and testing speed etc with the web browser and you can use your iPhone at http://music.dottunes.net:9998 (I never enter a username or password, just leave the username as Guest)
