so whats the difference between this and the remote app that lets you access your itunes library over wifi? anything?

the remote app is just a remote your your computer.

this acutally streams your music. in other words, its like having a wireless ipod.

Yes, this allows you to stream music from your computer to your iPhone or iPt, whereas Remote just allows you to control iTunes on your computer.

Well, like I stated earlier if you go into the setting of SM on your computer you can enable it to "allow computer to sleep while connected". I know this works because I've been listening to my itunes music (over 3G) in my car today and my imac's screen has been off.

Great App! my only complaint is that some of of the songs dont seem to be playing at the highest quality while others sound great. Not sure why this is.

Just tried this myself. Changed SM settings to allow computer to sleep while connected, then i forced the computer to sleep; my phone couldn't connect with the desktop app...

Simplify Media

Sounds like a cool app... but it requires Wifi/Edge/3G...which means as it streams your tunes, its going to be using your data connection...aka DRAINING the battery which already drains fast. Its not worth it folks. The iPod feature in the iPhone hardly uses any juice.

I disagree. It's very much worth it. In the car, just plug up the charger and away you go. Office, just keep it plugged in the USB cable. Anywhere else, then get a Kensington battery pack.

No luck. Can't get past the "Connecting to libraries..." screen. After 5 minutes or so, I get a "Login Failed - Cannot connect to Simplify Media server" error.

Troubleshooter in the desktop app says it's working fine.

Any tips?

Probably want to start with the basic first. Is Sharing your media enabled in iTunes?

The app is a great idea (and useful) but has some limitations worth mentioning. As said in the above post the battery drain may be a problem (but admittedly unavoidable with this kind of app - you've just got to accept battery drain with streaming apps), there is no video playback (a great pity!) and you can't open any other apps and keep the music playing (like the iphone built in music player - I guess i've just been spoilt by the existing ipod functions!).
On the plus side, it does however continue playing when the screen goes to sleep which is cool ;)

A great app, but feels somehow incomplete IMHO.

My library FINALLY loads up after taking forever (understandable with over a hundred gigs of music) then disappears! Now I have to wait for it to load back up again.:eek::eek:

If this streamed video I'd pay $20 for it, but as a music only its not worth 4 bucks. I have currently 350megs of music and 7 gigs video on my iphone, plus about 80 gigs more on my home computer.

someone just posted on here that theres an app fro your cpu that will make your computer not sleep.. insomniax or something.. for macs only though

You can just switch off Sleep mode by going to the "Energy Saver" preferences and moving the slider under "Put the computer to sleep when it's inactive for" to NEVER; or am i missing something?

well, unfortunately NOTHING can run in the background, that was NOT the issue of the app makers, but apple's SDK terms.

I hope to see vidoes on there sometime....

the battery drain isnt TOO bad. I mean, MOST of the time, you will be listening in a car or at work right?? its not TOO hard to hard to keep chargers there

That might have been it. Re-starting both apps, re-scanning libraries.

Huge thanks. It's always the obvious.

Thanks to you, too, lindsayanng.

it doesn't matter, you can't stream them anyway.
