I have a noticeable hiss holding the back of the phone up to my ear and while on calls. Annoying to hear it while on a call. This video also has a similar hiss in it, but not quite as high pitch
I can't be certain but it might be the hiss bleeding through the video. I know there is some room noise there, but I've recorded 3 videos and each video has different hiss patterns. I have also had clicking noises when zooming in and when just using the various menus in iOS 10.

held my 7+ a foot away from my 6, pressed record with both at same time to record an empty "quiet" room for 10 seconds.

Guess what?
they sounded the same. Both are picking up the ambient white noise.
I've been in the sound lab at GE... you want to talk about silence? If you think you are in a quiet noise free room guess again.
I can confirm that the iPhone 6 is picking up this noise.

Also recorded them separately and they sound the same.

Regardless I have Apple Care on the 7 Plus, it will be covered by Apple one way or another if there is a problem.

I can hear it on my iphone 7 plus when I held it next to my ear but the same thing can be said about my ancient Samsung galaxy s4 which I still keep if I want to do some tweaks and smashes on android :)

but I notice the iphone 7 plus gets pretty hot... in contrast to my 6s plus :s... that's why im contemplating whether I want to keep the 7 plus or go with it... :(

Having a hiss and hearing a hiss are two different things.

I have it, but I have to push my ear up to the back of my uncased phone during a benchmark. I cannot hear it under any other condition.

I'd imagine the hiss exists in every 7/7+ in varying degrees but goes unnoticed by most.

I should also note, about 12 years ago I had a Dell laptop with electronic whine from the Intel processor at certain speedstep frequencies. I could hear it easily and returned it immediately.

A hiss is a Hiss is Hiss. if such a condition did not occur under ANY condition before then A hiss in any ONE condition makes it an issue
If you receive your calls holding iPhone backwards then it's a issue otherwise don't bother.

Don't be so worried about this hiss thing, new components inside working as they should. If you don't hear hiss then you should worry. Most or maybe all electronics get hot this is natural.

I've got the hissing noise on my iPhone 7. But I've got a similar hizzing noise (clearly some sort of coil whine) on my Galaxy S7 as well.

Actually the hizzing is not noticeable, even not in a quiet room. The only way to notice it on both phones is to hold the back of the phones on the ear. I don't use my phones that way very often.

But besides the hizzing noise I've got a ticking / clacking sound as well on my iPhone 7 on load. And that's quite noticeable on video recordings.

170 users have now voted, up from 100 yesterday and the hissing percentage has jumped from 30% to 40%.

yeah because thats a completely scientific poll, i mean i vote, and I didn't even choose the right vote, really proves nothing. There is an issue, yes, but the polls doesn't mean squat

Just had my phone call with Apple's Executive Relations Team. Apple says they are aware of the issue and its engineers are investigating. As my case is at executive level, I'll be kept updated and should have some further information next week. I'll keep you posted.

I haven't heard anything yet on my 7 plus & I have very good hearing. I pushed it pretty hard as well last night as I had about 15+ apps downloading back to back.

I'll keep a ear out ;)

To add^

These phones are getting very powerful in such a small chassis so I guess it wouldn't surprise me. They are essentially mini high end computers.

compared my iphone 7+ to iphone 6+. same white background noise. I had my iphone 6 for 2 years and never notice this issue until someone posted it.

I'm sure I'll have no issues with it.

I can only hear it when i hold the back to my ear. But i don't know why i would ever do this.

I wouldn't even know if any of my previous phones did this, because i never would have checked.

No hiss whatsoever with my 6+

This stuff is just another verification of the wisdom of not jumping on products as soon as they are released. Let others be the guinea pigs.

I have yet to hear any hissing on my 7 plus and i have had it for two days. I have tried to even stress the cpu by downloading a ton of apps. I mean are people only hearing this by holding the phone directly up to their ear? I have great hearing, and haven't heard a hiss yet.

I still have my two iP6 phones. They don't make this noise, which to be clear is NOT a hiss. It's a popping/clicking sound. I can hear it clearly with both of the iPhone 7 phones when I record HD video. I don't do that very often, but I'm not going to get locked into not being able to use HD video on phones I may keep for two years or more, so I returned them this morning. Too bad, it's a GREAT phone otherwise.

I'm returning mine. It shouldn't be doing this, and it will hurt resale value especially if they ever fix it and refuse to replace phones though like they are already starting to do. I'm done with Apple. I will have to adjust to Android. Mine is a week 38 too. Latest one.

It is unfortunate that this subject takes a this magnitude. The new processor of iPhone 7 is with an unprecedented power in a smartphone; as powerful as that which equips a Mac Book (clocked at 2.4GHz). Paste your ear to the back of your Mac Book in significant use situation (downloading an application, for example), and you will hear exactly the same sizzling !!!
Even if that's the case, the camera shouldn't be picking up all that sound when recording.

So, this is a little nit-picky, but my 7+ is making a tacky sound. At first I thought it was the case or the screen protector so I took them both off (which is why it looks bubbly), but it's the phone. It's most noticeable while holding and putting light upward pressure on the upper left side (which I only noticed because I was using 3D Touch at the top of the display). The phone is otherwise perfect, and I don't think I'll exchange because of it, but it's still a little annoying. Anyone else notice this?

Yeah i noticed this. Its just like the loose home button from the 4 onwards. Never happened before that. I dont think its the home button though; its something else. No idea what, maybe the camera lens?
