I guess the OP never saw a Rolex Sea-Dweller Deepsea. That watch measures 53mm lug-to-lug, 44mm dial and is 17.7mm thick. It's huge! Way bigger than the Ultra.

Well given your judgement, no one, I mean no one will buy one. But I guess if anyone does buy one and likes it well what does that say? Perhaps people are different and that is OK?

Exactly. There's plenty of big watches out there, it's a matter of taste. The Ultra sits fine on mine, because I have a big wrist.

Some people prefer the 45mm because it's easier to read the larger text on a larger screen, regardless of what anyone thinks about how the watch looks on their wrist.

I'm not crazy about how the ultra looks either though. :D

I personally love how the Ultra looks, bigger watches aren't an issue for me. It's all personal preference - Ultra isn't supposed to be a dress watch. It's smaller than most dive computers.

Thought this 44mm AP would be too big as my last AP was 42mm and felt huge... but ended up loving the bigger size. Wasn't a fan of the Ultra until I saw it in person.

No offense, but I have to say it looks quite ridiculous size-wise in that photo.
No way… that actually looks really good.

Although my least favorite part of the Watch is the view from the side where it’s got that “jar” looking profile.

But, other than that, it looks pretty good. They did a good job with a rugged watch.

This world might be just a bit better if people did not assume their opinions were universal truths.

I have the Ultra and I like its looks. (Also like the Epix 2 - so everything is not either-or.)

I have an Alpine Loop green and like its looks.

I have an Ocean Band yellow and like its looks.

All that matters. (BTW - One definition of confidence and self esteem is not worrying about what others think regarding style.)

I saw it in RL for the first time today, and i don't think it looks that big, compared to a large sized S8. The orange button looks ugly though, i thought it was plastic, but that glitterish paintjob is pretty fugly.
Still kinda feel like getting one, when they are in stock :p

Having looked at most peoples photos of their new watches, I’m happy you’re all liking them but I think the majority won’t. Wearing a 49mm watch in this day and age is ABSURD unless you’re in the SAS or completely ripped and your arms are massive. Right now I’m seeing these watches just overtaking peoples wrists to the point it is comical, sorry but I think they just look awful.
I understand that you need more screen real estate to swipe and have apps etc, but the concept of apps and other add ons all integrated into a watch to a watch purist like myself doesn’t sit right with me at all. It’s gimmicky as hell and that’s why I’ll always stick with Rolex or JLC for my watches as they actually know how to make a proper watch
Im not alone in this thought either, below is a picture of someone with a 45mm apple Watch and the top comment is “looks like you have an iPad mini on your wrist” which is a perfect description, and the new ultra is 4mm bigger ! 😆😆
Just ridiculous honestly and Apple should be really contemplating who makes their decisions because most people would never sign off on a watch that big.

Those guidelines are nonesense. By those standards, a 36mm datejust is for women.

I’ve got some good news for you! You don’t have buy/wear it. Problem solved. Amazing really.

I'm convinced you are correct. It's no different than the abysmal failure of the Plus/Max iPhones. No one will EVER want phones that big; they're cumbersome and useless. Total overkill for the average guy. It's like holding an iPad up to your head! What do you want to do, host a drive-in theater at your desk?! This totally reminds me of the time that Apple had to file bankruptcy after taking the floppy drive out of the iMAC. And those COLORS! Everyone knows computers are supposed to be beige! Your avatar shows you have a clear, cutting-edge approach to style, and we would all be wise to heed your almost otherworldly sense of fashion as this watch is obviously bound to fail!

I go hiking lots. The majority of my every-day clothes are outdoors style stuff. The Ultra fits that aesthetic well.
Yeah, the idea that outdoor wear isn’t valid everyday fashion or upscale enough is insane, based on societal trends. Up here in the PNW, you’re far more likely to see the haves sporting Arc’Teryx or Patagonia than Gucci or Prada, and the AWU looks nothing but perfectly in its place in such company…

looks like these glasses and that watch would go nicely together.

Not that the watch ultra looks very pretty but that jaeger-lecultre looks like something a diminuitive accountant from the 70ies who is proud of his playboy-collection ("because of the well written articles") would wear to his pinstripe-suit and bow and still look old fashioned (and a little sleazy).

I love the look of the Apple Watch Ultra and I'm so happy they changed up the design for it a little. I've been an Apple Watch owner all the way from the Series 0, so I was getting rather tired of the essentially unchanged design. This finally gives me something new to look at. The flat display appeals to me more than the curved one on the regular design. I don't think it's too large on my wrist either. I remember hearing large faces were fashionable too.

The JLC small seconds is almost 43 mm long. It's not a small watch even by today's standard. It is a dress watch intended to be worn with dress attire -- something many people do not care about these days. The Ultra is a sports watch intended to be worn at leisure or while playing games. The Ultra is not a "cool" watch. It's more like something you put up with in order to get the functionality it offers -- which is a specialized use case actually over the things offered by the AW.

“Ultra is not a cool watch”??? Hahaha. It couldn’t be cooler looking even if it wanted. It is the most amazing looking watch and coolest piece of technology with few negatives that will hopefully be fixed in the future. Needs more battery life, offline maps with more storage, better training integration ala Garmin, etc. One poster properly called it “well executed titanium machine” in another post. I completely agree. It is stunningly beautiful and I love my Garmins too but this is spectacular.

I remember when we - as a forum members - discussed the right size of the first Apple Watch. The first gen. 38 vs. 42. I was pointing out that photo of your arm with watch is opticaly misleading. It may look big or small, but the right case size for your arm isn’t only about your arm size, but also about your somatotype. It is better to make a photo of your body with the watch. And most of all … be true to yourself about your feelings toward the size intuitively. You like it? Wear it!
I am wearing 44mm Hamilton Automatic and they look great.
When I got the first AW42 - right now Series 0 - I felt that they are too small (regular european guy).
I think that AW Ultra is the right size with normal battery life, but I would like to see it in different design.

I've been open about my thoughts on the Ultra's design (I think I may have used the word "abomination") but in the end there's truly no accounting for taste. Its design does have me slightly worried about Apple's wearable design and whether future Apple devices will appeal to me.
