Having looked at most peoples photos of their new watches, I’m happy you’re all liking them but I think the majority won’t. Wearing a 49mm watch in this day and age is ABSURD unless you’re in the SAS or completely ripped and your arms are massive. Right now I’m seeing these watches just overtaking peoples wrists to the point it is comical, sorry but I think they just look awful.
I understand that you need more screen real estate to swipe and have apps etc, but the concept of apps and other add ons all integrated into a watch to a watch purist like myself doesn’t sit right with me at all. It’s gimmicky as hell and that’s why I’ll always stick with Rolex or JLC for my watches as they actually know how to make a proper watch
Im not alone in this thought either, below is a picture of someone with a 45mm apple Watch and the top comment is “looks like you have an iPad mini on your wrist” which is a perfect description, and the new ultra is 4mm bigger ! 😆😆
Just ridiculous honestly and Apple should be really contemplating who makes their decisions because most people would never sign off on a watch that big.

I've been open about my thoughts on the Ultra's design (I think I may have used the word "abomination") but in the end there's truly no accounting for taste. Its design does have me slightly worried about Apple's wearable design and whether future Apple devices will appeal to me.
Why are you worried? Tons of people love the size of the smaller watches. The Ultra is the first Apple Watch that appeals to me. Ultra buyers will probably be in the minority due to size and cost.

When I initially saw the watch online, I had my reservations. I’ve worn an Apple Watch since Series 0, and I’ve upgraded about every other year. I’ve been wearing the Ultra for several days now and it’s not garnered one single comment negative or positive. I’m an average size male and it just doesn’t stand out on the wrist quite like it does in photos online. Is the stainless  watch classier and more appropriate for dressing up? Absolutely! Are there more budget friendly options? Yes. Is it too big for some wrists? I would say yes. Do you love your current  watch, prioritize function over form, and have the $$$? I’d encourage you to try the Ultra. Just my .02.

First Apple Watch that looks and feels great to wear for me imo, no offence to any but the S4/5/7 aluminium I had felt and looked liked toys on me, was embarrassed to wear them out other than to exercise lol.
Not this beast.

I haven't read through all of the replies but surely this thread hasn't gone this far without someone pointing out the glaring obvious issue of comparing a smartwatch (not just the Ultra) with traditional timepieces. It seemed like the OP just wanted to find every convenient point to talk about what watches he "owns". That's fantastic. Hooray.

The Apple Watch wasn't intended to be in the same class as a Rolex. However, if people want to wear something they bought with their own money along with the clothes that they also purchased with their own money, what business is that of mine?

And with the case of the Ultra, I'm not sure if it needs to go on a t-shirt or billboard....but...the watch isn't for everyone. THE OTHER APPLE WATCHES STILL EXIST. *gasp*

I think ”normal” Apple Watch looks OK and in some configs even cool. I agree that too big watch for a small wrist looks a bit tastless but who am I to judge, right? I also think Ultra does look like you are going hiking. But isn’t that the point of Ultra?

Just remember you don’t need any Apple watch to have an adventure or to excersice. It’s 100% possible without Apple Watch. In fact, it’s probably more enjoyable without Apple Watch, because you can focus on the adventure/excersice instead of fiddling with your watch all the time just to justify it’s meaning trying to prove yourself you need it.

Anyway, have a great week, enjoy your watches. Apple watches, non-Apple watches. No-watches.

Put one on each wrist and you can call it weight training
Ok. But I have a feeling it will still feel like nothing. I was thinking of actually adding some weight. Progress always happens with solid definable action.

You were embarrassed to wear them but still bought three :D

I do like the ultra with that strap. That’s what I’d get. I hope it doesn’t embarrass you further.

I mainly used them for exercise and surfing, and at home/offfice.
Corny was the word probably.

I’d take Ultra anyday just because of the extra battery life, ruggedness and Titanium case.

It is $799 and if you remember, it’s actually cheaper than previous Ti Editions. If you dont like larger watches, there’s always the 45mm and you might save a lot if you opt for the sport aluminum.

I’d still go with the Ultra.

Your giving Rolex owners a bad name. I enjoy the Apple Watch Ultra especially for its features. As for size and looks, it’s absolutely perfect in just about every way.

You do realise the Deepsea is much larger than the Ultra ?

Also a Rolex is no match for the Apple Watch Ultra & the Apple Watch Ultra is no match for a Rolex. BOTH are perfect for what they were designed for.

Relax and enjoy life, your entitled as an OP to start a thread, but this………wow, just wow

They need a Full design refresh. My wife won’t get one cause it looks like a computer on your wrist. Where’s the feminine designed option?
Or even just some new ideas

At least half of all Ultra buyers are not keen on its looks but are just coping with its size and looks because Apple hasn’t upgraded battery or SiP on the $399 AW since Series 6.

Apple is giving you two options:

A. Completely new Watch with tons of new features, premium materials, premium display, and 2x battery life. Only cons are size and aesthetics.

Or B. AW “Series 6.2”, aka Series 8, with next to no new features, no battery life improvements, no new SiP. Nothing exciting but size and aesthetics are much better than Ultra.

Either way, I’m sure Apple will give the $399 series 9 markedly better battery than 6-7-8 and a new SiP and then we’ll see how much Ultra owners really love their chunky thick-Watches.

The trade-in value for the Ultra in September 2023 will probably cover the costs of the new Series 9. So it’s just some $300-$400 lost and a year of Chungus McThiccums dragging at your arm.
