Agreed. I've yet to see a photo yet of it on wrist that doesn't look ridiculous. No offence to anyone. If you like it, more power to you.

To be fair, most photos of watches on wrists make the watch look bigger than it is. If you snap a photo of your watch on your wrist right now and compare it to what you see with your eyes, the picture will make it look a couple of mm bigger.

The Ultra is a breath of fresh year after a stale 7 year design that essentially looked the same year after year. We finally get a lip that will protect the screen plus it's flat which looks awesome. Orange accents are awesome too. If you think it's ugly, that's cool. But the Ultra IMO looks simply terrific.

At this point I am wondering if anyone has bought the 8 or if everyone is either going 7 or less or to the Ultra because it is different in some form regardless of actual need or aesthetics.

I bought the S8. I like the look of the Ultra and it's no bigger than the Garmin I've been wearing, but none of the features stood out as 'must haves' to me. At least not to the point of spending that much more for the Ultra.

If I'd had a S7 I would've stuck with it for another year, but my last Apple Watch was a S0.

The watch faces designed for the apple watch pretty much look terrible on all of the models regardless of bezel or not. Most of them don't really take advantage of the full screen or give the faces any depth anyway. They are flat and not thought out. The wayfinder is ok, i like some of the Nike faces. I just think they ALL could be much more thought at and branded by apple.
The issue for me is the fonts used. The Hermes faces look so much better and more sophisticated purely because of the typeface.

Saw it in person yesterday finally. Holy **** is that thing massive and heavy. People who are saying otherwise are huffing some serious copium. I personally think it will look ridiculous on nearly everyone that isn’t a pretty big dude.

It is heavier than other apple watches for sure, but lighter than many traditional watches.
I guess it depends what you are used to and what you like.

I always liked larger watches so the Ultra works for me.

Fonts and depth. The Hermes are subtle but I totally agree, they look much more sophisticated. They are very nice faces.

The ultra is 10 grams heavier than then stainless steel 45mm. That’s the weight of a couple sugar packets. It’s pretty imperceptible.

Jumping up from a smaller mm Apple Watch aluminum, yes you’re going to notice. I think the Ultra being wider overall distributes weight more evenly too, I notice nothing really from wearing my S7 ti edition, and other heavy watches but that’s me. The Ultra is certainly lighter than some of the seiko and citizen chronographs I’ve had in my life especially without a stainless band as the only option.

I do not notice much of a weight difference over my S5 GSS, it does weigh more, but not by a huge difference. It definably weighs WAY less than my Submariner with bracelet.

Ok, so it’s the opposite of everything you say here if compared to a Garmin or other similar sports watches.

It’s also much smaller and lighter than Big Ben :)

I’d be sending whoever designed it and released it home with their P45
Hey look at that, I've been blocked by the user you quoted. Cool like it when that happens.

As for the topic, yeah agree it's ugly, and very basic.

As for people saying it's a sports items etc. well I work in the events industry, and well lots of formal attire and Apple watches. I watched a guest talk into her watch when her kid called her. It was weird, and do we really need this level of micromanagement in our daily lives? I don't. Glad if you enjoy it and works for you.

Yep I wear a 41mm. It seems like Apple has decided to differentiate their watches somewhat by gender. They put a lot of emphasis on the old style watches having period tracking, and then marketed the watch with more features to men by only having a size that men would typically choose to wear.

I am actually kinda sad to see this trend to be honest. I am hoping they make a smaller watch with a flat screen and action button next year.

I think it can only be considered copium if people who were previously/otherwise opposed to large watches (or some other feature of the Ultra) are choosing to go against their preferences just to have the newest and best Apple device (aka coping).

It's been pretty well established that there is a nontrivial consumer base that was waiting and hoping for an Apple Watch to be released with the Ultra's size and characteristics, which your statement conveniently ignores. The size/heft of the Ultra is completely non-unique in the watch world; tons of products exist that are similar or larger.

It sounds like someone is just a wittle sad that Apple didn't release a new design that was more to their preferences. We feel for you.

Sad? Not really.

Disappointed in Apple's general direction of putting more features into larger devices, maybe a little.

I’m not sure why there is so much controversy to the point that people can’t like what they like and if they do they must be blind fan boys? Is that where we are at? That’s not helping to stifle the Android trolls lol.

Facts tell us that the Ultra has features not offered before in other watches.

Facts tell us it’s protected far better to extreme abuse.

Facts tell us the battery lasts considerably longer.

Facts tell us that all comes at a cost of a little more weight and bulkier case. That either appeals to a certain user or it doesn’t.

There is no objective non opinion based argument about what people should or shouldn’t want or like.

That’s it.

More rugged means larger. If you want fitness features in a smaller device, there are alternatives such as FitBit.

I'm almost certain they will come out with additional Ultra models in the future. This first offering seems like they're essentially testing the waters with the one size & only one color. Assuming this first Ultra sells well, which it almost certainly will, they'll probably expand with different sizes/colors within the next year or two.
