It's being cancelled as a tax write off so they have to either shop it around or it's gone into the ether.
Zucker strikes again. Wonder how long Last Week Tonight will last.

Edit: oops, got my streamer consolidations mixed up. Was thinking of the Warner-Discovery merger.

Edit 2: well shoot. As proof of how terrible I am with names, it’s Zaslav, not Zucker. Not sure where I got Zucker from (separate from Zuckerberg).

Edit 3: last edit, I promise. Jeff Zucker, former CEO of CNN. That’s probably where I got the name.

So how about this week's Strange New Worlds? That was quite a ride for an hour, probably would have been a 2-parter back in the day. Best episode of the show to date I think. Some good charecter moments. Its hard to do "people from the future come back to today" well and after the mess that was Picard Season 2 its good to see Trek hasn't lost its way with this tricky concept.

Sorry, but season 2 of Picard wasn't "a mess." I don't understand the hate for Picard's first two seasons.

Season 1 was good. But in my view Season 2 had a messy story arc that was difficult to follow. The first episode or two wasn't bad, but after that it was just all over the place.

This is why you need to take Picard Season 2 as its own thing instead of it being constructive or relative to the entire story for the series. Keep in mind that Season 2 was an entire construct made by Q. So since it was essentially make believe, it had no bearing on what happened in season 1 or what would happen in season 3.

I also think season 2 gave Seven the necessary character growth to be a senior officer in Starfleet. Her working with Picard in 1 and 2 made her respect Starfleet more.

That, and not having to wear the catsuit anymore.

That said, she'd make a great Selina Kyle! ;)

For those in the US, I heard of https://trekmovie.com/2023/07/05/ex...from-greatest-geek-year-ever-1982-docuseries/ airing this Saturday on CW.

"Exclusive Clip: William Shatner & Nicholas Meyer On ‘Star Trek II’ From ‘Greatest Geek Year Ever: 1982’ Docuseries

Originally started as a crowdfunded documentary in 2021, The Greatest Geek Year Ever: 1982 is now a new four-part docuseries debuting this Saturday on The CW. TrekMovie has an exclusive clip and more info.

Shatner, Meyer, and more on the importance Wrath of Khan from 1982 doc

1982 was a big year for geeky movies. Of course, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan was part of that great year. In the following clip from The Greatest Geek Year Ever: 1982, star William Shatner puts the movie in perspective relative to 1979’s Star Trek: The Motion Picture, while Nicholas Meyer talks about how he approached the film without worrying about how it would work for the fans. The clip also features high-profile fans talking about the importance of the film."

Even as an entire construct, it was messy and I didn’t enjoy it much. Still, of course, better than anything Discovery thankfully, but not as awesome as I hoped it would be.

I'd be surprised if they shop it around. ST is a valuable property for Paramount. Not sure they would let someone else do it.

Paramount is likely hoping that the larger subscriber base of Netflix or Amazon Prime will make Prodigy marketable enough to buy.

Of course, if Paramount had bothered actually marketing Prodigy they might have been able to get it past the general audience idea that the show was "for kids only" because it aired on Nickelodeon on cable and older subscribers would have seen how solid a show it was and watched it on P+.

I am holding out hope that if Paramount cannot find a buyer, Nickelodeon still gets to air S2 since I do have cable. Set a DVR flag for the show just in case.

Finished lower decks last week. I've never watched Rick and Morty but I'm a big American Dad / Family Guy fan.

First few episodes were tolerable. Season 2 and 3 got really good. They have a lot of Star Trek voice actors too. Definitely recommend Lower Decks for Star Trek fans - it is real Trek. Tons of Star Trek references every episode. :D

Could not stand the constant 30 second + 30 second forced Paramount+ ads of Star Trek New Strange New Worlds every single day I wanted to watch Lower Decks lol. At least make it something different every day if you're going to force those ads on people...

Lower Decks is a good show, if a change of pace for Trek. I particularly liked the DS9 episode in Season 3.

Meanwhile, Strange New Worlds goes from strength to stength. Although it has happened on many series, I'm amazed at how much better the second season is. The last three episodes have all been up to the very high standards of the older series.

As I said earlier, the Cerritos crew of Lower Decks exhibits the best qualities of Starfleet. They just do it a**-backwards :)

I love Carol Kane, but I miss Hemmer.

The Strange New Worlds/Lower Decks crossover will be episode 7, July 27th, titled "Those Old Scientists." :)

Another interesting title is episode 9 of SNW: "Subspace Rhapsody"

totally cool

Sentient Starship

I guess I'm old school here talking about classic TNG clips. But when I watched the show on tv technically the picture was only resolved to 640x480 or 720x480 what we would consider "potato" quality today. So when I watch a high definition pass of the original film here it looks rather stunning..

Yes the blu ray versions were stunning already. The difference to the older released tng material on dvd is night and day.

Couldn’t agree more. SNW is proving itself to be Trek the way it was meant to be (though I do agree with Trek Culture’s criticism on the inconsistency in writing wrt to the Khan/eugenics wars plot lines, I like the way SNW handles it better though). S2 has been solid and looking forward to more. Just wish we got more than 10 episodes.

I watched the first video at Rare Video Shows Building of STAR TREK: The Experience - Nerdist.

For those that went on the now defunct experience (formerly at the former Las Vegas Hilton), you can see kinda how they did the transporter effect at the beginning. Was a pretty good twist to start off the experience/ride. I went on that at least once or twice and also went on the defunct Voyager “4D” experience that got added later.
Related to the above, Michael Okuda posted this on FB in that past day. I've only had a chance to watch the beginning.

Sorta related: https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/celebrate-patrick-stewarts-birthday-life-120000768.html is a day late now. He just turned 83.

SNW S2 E5: Fantastic. I love the characters and the story. Too bad there are only 10 episodes per season in the streaming paradigm. In the good ole days we would get 24 episodes. Still, great stuff.

My only regret is that they did not have enough time in the episode to play a full-on game of charades with the Vulcan in-laws. That would have been hilarious.

Well 26 episodes back in the day. And 7 seasons. Those were the days. Although the episodes do seem a little longer, 1 hour versus 44 minutes (sans ads) in the 90s. This week's episode was not my favorite of the season to date, but it wasn't bad. SNW is finding its feet.
