I love Steam! It's so cool it's coming to the Mac too! I purchased Torchlight when it went on sale a couple weeks ago and it is a steal at $5! I just got Borderlands and this is an amazing game! I play on the highest settings and it plays great! I love this game!

I'd be tempted by Borderlands but I'm not keen on multiplayer games that don't have free DLC. Also a friend is really obsessed with it (even made a song for it too) but says its just way too buggy and it's a pain to play with friends.

i haven't actually tried the multiplayer. i prefer playing games like this alone, but i plan on doing multiplayer with my second character to try it out. i do think DLC is a sham when you have to pay for it. its like 1/4 of an expansion, should be a free patch.

Interesting. Modern Warfare 2 is having a free weekend starting tomorrow (April 8th). You can preload the game now so you can be ready to start playing tomorrow.

Since this is also the pre-order discussion thread I thought I'd mention a future game here. The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom finally has a PC release date. Comes with all kinds of Steam goodies like achievements and cloud syncing.

All for the low price of $5 in the US. I think they're underselling this game. It looks fantastic.

A mere 5 months after it's initial release, the biggest entertainment release in history is on sale for the low, low price of still more than it should cost. Modern Warfare 2 is 15% off until 1PM Eastern on Monday.

2 offers that I'm probably picking up!

AvP 2000
Commando's pack
And another good one that I recommend>
Zombie Driver, 50% off to celebrate a new game mode. I have this and it's rather fun.

Used to play Commandos 2 a lot whilst at school, probably should get that again!

This may be out of place with the thread in regards to Steam, but certainly a good deal is not. Direct2Drive.com is having a Spring 80% off sale. I picked up Dirt2 for $9.95, and that game is amazing! I consider myself a "casual racing fan", mess with them time to time, but not totally into it. Dirt 2 changed that! I let me girlfriend mess with it, and she played it non-stop for nearly 2 hours! (she did really good too, opened up a bunch of events for me getting 1rst place!) lol

They have fallout 3 for $14.95, and various others at "impulse buy" prices. I believe there are 3 days left for the sale. Snatch things up while you can. ;)

Second on everyone needing to check out Direct2Drive. Only bought a couple of things, as I own so much already ... but there is just a ton of good stuff, and depending on your tastes the $65 Atari bundle deal could be good as well!

Same here. I though it was more than $30, but I'm not going to complain about 50% off of a cheaper price than I remember.

Madballs is 75% off for the weekend. £1.74 here.

Incidentally I'm 75% tempted to buy it, it's got good reviews and looks fun.

i like steam better because you can download games multiple times and don't need backups.

You can download from Direct2Drive multiple times as well - just re-downloaded and installed my day-of-release Mass Effect once again ... no issues.

But I *do* prefer Steam's integration and lack of external installers.

That is correct, you can indeed download as many times as you like. One thing I noticed, is the download rates for both are very good, but Direct2Drive always seems to download faster.

The one thing I like about Steam, is Steam Cloud. I had to reinstall TorchLight, and thought I had lost all progress. But soon as I loaded it up again after installation, all my progress was intact! yay for Steam Cloud!

Note however, not all games on Steam actually take advantage of Steam. When they do though, it is nice.

Just so you know, Direct2Drive does in fact have a Steam of their own, called "Comrade", like steam in many ways, except the friends/buddies thing looks more sophisticated (like a full blown chat buddy game tracking system)

I'm tkingart on Steam and Comrade btw ;)

Comrade is just the new name for GameSpy Arcade ... and is more of a friend/matchmaking service ... and I find it generally annoying.

Nice! I wonder if I buy this will I then have to buy it again for mac when it is ported?

Nope. Valve already said that if you own the PC version of one of their games that you'd get the Mac version as well at no charge.
