I'm sure those people exist. I'm not sure that applies to all "non-techy" people as you claim.
Perhaps not. But I'm comfortable in assuming that a vast amount of people who plunk down over $200+ dollars for a phone are doing it in part because they don't have to think.

Yes, it may make their lives easier and more efficient. Not having to think means you have more time to think about something else, things that may be important to you beyond how it is your devices "does" something. Thus, they accept Apple's way of doing things. Perhaps they may question it, but it's not worth the effort to remove the locks and then explore your options.

Those that are intent on doing that are either buying iPhones with an intent to jailbreak or are buying other brands.

As a Note 3 user, I believe the S-Pen is the RIGHT step into making a stylus apart of the ''experience''.

In fact, I believe it should become more ''mouse-like''. The S-Pen, for me, adds more features than a finger can ever do. I wish it were more click sensitiv e.

Believe me, just like with big phones....if Apple added a Smart Stylus, people would be clamoring for more.

''See, THIS is how you do a stylus. Apple makes me want it, unlike Shamesung". This is the type of response I'd expect.

The thing is, Apple already has a precursor for a more advanced-stylus. Apple has to add that ONE feature to get you to buy it. Just one.

In the end it comes down to implementation. Samsung could make a phone that made me breakfast each morning, but if the rest of it worked like TouchWiz currently works, I won't be interested.

And to be honest, even if Apple introduced a stylus onto the Plus line, I doubt I'd use it all that much, even if the implementation were better than Samsung's. The use cases for a stylus are niche enough that I don't think it would be useful to me.

I think Apple is more likely to find ways to make your finger work with the screen more like a stylus via more advanced screen interactions. Hard vs soft presses and so forth.

So when I click my finger a sub menu comes up?

During the 8 months I used my Note 2, I probably used the stylus 10 times. My wife has been using that phone for about 4 months now and she doesn't use it either.

Don't forget to mention Androids garbage email client, the poor keyboards when compared to the iPhone and the daily mysterious battery drain.
I've had every note minus the note 4, and I can say, at least for me, I've never used the stylus. The only time it came out was when people asked what it looked like haha

Steve was a marketer. He would say whatever he thought would sell people on the product in its current incarnation.

If Apple were selling Bows & Arrows he would have stood on stage and said "No one wants a gun, you have to buy bullets, you have to put them in, you lose them. Yuck!"

He did the same thing with the Video iPod. He said no one wanted to watch videos on such a small screen. Then a year later the iPod Video came out. Exactly the same sized screen as the year prior where he said no one wanted to watch video on an iPod.

But make no mistake, there is a difference between holding the wrong viewpoint and knowingly telling a lie to strengthen your current position. Apple sold small iPhones so Steve said small is what was best.

For the average user, Steve was correct about the stylus. For students and dedicated note takers, Steve was wrong. For artists and professionals, Steve was wrong.

The question isn't, "Should Apple's iDevices incorporate a stylus?". The question should be, "Is Apple's focus on the average user or the professional/student?". The issue of a stylus depends on the answer to the above question.

Perfect answer /end thread

I use a stylus frequently, especially in the labs.
A touch screen doesn't work well with two layers of gloves

I used the stylus on my note all the time for navigation. Never really note taking or drawing though. When you have multi window it just sort of works like a mouse.

I still don't understand why iOS lacks multi window for the bigger screens.

There are of course people that say 'why do I need a stylus' , but even if apple did choose to include a stylus in the same way samsung does, they wouldn't have to use it anyway. On my note 3 the spen tucks away neatly so you don't even know it's there until you come to use it. I don't use it very often but for certain things it's invaluable.
I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't want one as it's virtually hidden when not in use.

What mysterious battery drain is there on Android phones? I have several Android phones and none of them have a mysterious battery drain.

I lost all of my faith in Apple...

"No one is going to buy a big phone." - Steve Jobs

He was wrong. Tens, hundreds of millions of people are going to buy big iPhones.

"Nobody wants a stylus."
"If you see a stylus, they blew it."
"As soon as you have a stylus, you're dead."

Well, a few days ago I tried Note 4 in Best Buy. It just blew me away. Using a true fountain pen-like stylus, with digital ink instantly flowing and with thousands of pressure levels, on a big, bright, ultra-res screen felt like the future, NOW. I instantly felt that I'm holding not just a consumption device, but real PRODUCTIVITY device, a mini computer that can inspire to create. I don't have this feeling when I'm using my iPhone or iPad. They feel dead, merely viewports into the world of premade content.

I almost always carry my trusted Moleskine with me because of this, I feel that only it gives me the opportunity to pour my thoughts and ideas, be creative. Typing on a touch keyboard or drawing with a finger does not give me that feeling. And using Note 4 I had this feeling of fresh air. I think it can replace my Moleskine.

So, Steve/Apple... I used a stylus, and I'm not dead. I feel way more alive with a stylus than with you dumb finger devices. You're dead wrong. At least somebody does want a stylus out there. I proved you wrong, Steve! :D

Can't wait to get my Note 4... My iDevices are going to serve as occasional consumption-only dumb terminals.

I lost all of my faith in :apple:.

Looks like the world is losing it faith in Samsung:
Samsung Electronics Third-Quarter Profit Plunges
Or at least their love affair with the stylus.

Jobs was wrong about the Stylus, the same way everyone else was wrong about no physical keyboard being a disaster. It's the innovation and advancement that changed things.

I sure don't want to go back to having a dumb stylus like it was on my old Treos or HP ipaq, but the S-pen is something I want, which is one of the reasons I'm going for the Note 4.

Good thing it comes with Google maps, because you appear to be lost.
