Oooooh it's so pretty! It must be teh s**t! Look at the floating windows thingies!!one1!! (referring to Exposè). Holy s**t the bottom sucked on that window, it's sooooo cool! (referring to the genie minimizing effect) Awesome!"
Me (acting a bit of a snob, I confess:eek:):
Actually, no, it's much better than Windows Vista. It's Mac OS X."
Classmate (with a face of dissapointment and disgust):
"Oh, I thought it was something cool and not for geeks. Whatever..."

Ten minutes later, she comes up and asks me to help her. XP ate her Ecology paper. Ahh, to be a "geek" ;)

Well we had to get some pamflet thingies for my Grandmothers funeral printed. My dad created it on his iBook in MS Word. He then took it to a print shop and was told they wouldn't touch any Mac Word files as they "didn't work on their computers."

I am now boycotting this print shop.

if they use PC, tell em we use Mac.

if they use Mac, tell em we use PC.

if they use Linux, tell em the system is down.

A Geek Squad Best Buy member showing the new HP Multimedia Hub with 17" Widescreen Touchscreen and Vista Ultimate to a customer wanting a new PC.

Customer: A touchscreen? What is it running?
Geek Squad: Windows Vista Ultimate
Customer: Not XP? What is Vista?
Geek Squad: Vista is Microsoft's new system. They're releasing a new system. Just like Apple JUST RELEASED Mac OS X.

????????????????????????????????????????????

How long has OS X been out???

In my mind: Talk about "Geek"...

Was that that god-awful black thing with the 19 inch screen? The big all-in-one block that looks like an industrial coffemachine (and can even mount a photo printer on the back)

God I hate that thing. It's so ugly, it's like the iMac's evil brother

It's actually really nice in person. I thought to myself - "Where's the cash box and receipt printer?" - looks like a Point Of Sale terminal...

The teacher of the tech classes at my school tells everyone that Macs are made to breakdown, so there is really no point in learning anything about them.

I've heard people on both sides do this, but they say "OS "ex""....

GOD THAT IRRITATES ME!

CAESAR WOULD ROLL OVER IN HIS GRAVE!

*raises hand*

Yes, it's pronounced OS 10, but I've always called it OS ex. If Steve wanted me to pronounce it as OS 10, he should've called it just that.

Plus, OS ex just sounds cooler.:)

EDIT: Yay, 900th post.:)

same here, but mainly because i saw OS X in print long before i heard it said as OS ten, i guess ex just stuck

Sowwy :(

My grandmother is so paranoid about viruses, she has like 3 different anti-virus programs on her Dell. She also gets so frustrated with "Microsoft Office" (a.k.a. Windows XP). I keep telling her that Mac's are so much easier to use, and that she can easily transfer all her files over. She pretty much hates computers because of Microsoft.

Also, someone at school asked me: "Did Bill Gates invent the iPod?" I hit my head on the table, and cried.

Yesterday my teacher bought a laptop with Windows Vista. She came up to me in school today with a couple of questions. This is basically how the conversation went:

teacher: "I got a new computer with that "veesta" thing! It's a Gateway laptop. Anyway, I got it on and I don't know what to do. They said it has Norton 60-day trial on it and I bought MS Office 2007 but I don't know how to get any programs running. It's really confusing."

me: "Well, you have to go to the start menu, which I think is now a spherical button, and find the program or put the CD in."

teacher: "I don't know how to do that so I'll bring it in tomorrow and have you show me."

me: "By the way, did you ever think about getting a mac? They're much easier to use and MS Office is made for mac."

teacher: "Oh, those apples? I hate those."

me: "Why?"

teacher: "I tried one of those 3 years ago and I didn't understand it."

Actually, there's a double-meaning with using the "X" as historically UNIX OS's have had an x in the name: Linux, AIX, AUX, etc. So by saying OS X one is saying both the roman numeral for "10", and speaking to the UNIX underpinnings.

I wish they didn't call in OS X 10.x.x, and stuck with the original numbering convention of OS X 1.x, 2.x, etc.
