I had a weird experience with the whole Mac vs. Windows issue last night.
Normally, I am around pretty computer literate people, and to be honest the 'debate' never really happens. I am used to OS X vs. Linux debates, which I think have some merit, but generally where I work people accept OS X as a superior operating system to Windows.
Last night though, this guy really laid into Macs, which I wasn't ready for. After I mentioned that I had a new BlackBook because my iBook died, he said 'Oh, your problem is the apple logo on the front - it makes any computer instantly into a piece of crap' and 'I'll say one thing about Macs - they are really easy to shut down - all you have to do is open a program!'
I don't really know how to respond to this kind of thing. Not that I think Apple and Macs are above criticism, but complaining that they crash all the time and generally don't work just confuses me.
Anyone else?
Also, I'm interested if there are people who think the whole Mac / Windows debate has merit outside issues with software compatibility. Coming from a world where people either use Macs or Linux, I guess I have a pretty closed perspective on things.
