So I've convinced a few family members to get one. I originally preorderd one from Apple, and decided to go to Best Buy and buy one with intentions of returning the one back to Apple because I didn't think I would get it on Saturday. Instead my Grandma decided she wanted one, so she just bought it from me. Today I go over to my other Grandparents house, and my Grandpa says he wants one. So he sends me to the Apple Store to get one for him, and one for my cousin. Seems like everyone in my family has one now.

Sounds cool. I'm trying to convince my father to get one. He's been wanting an iPhone to come out on Verizon's network.

Supposedly, they iPhone is coming to Verizon. But I wouldn't hold your breath... Even if one does come im betting it will suck, Verizon always take a good phone and locks features on them and they suck...

So it's a family affair LOL
I'm not surprised that everyone wanted one after seeing it

So today the IPad finally arrived here in the UK!!

Had one shipped from a friend in Florida who got a 16GB one. Mine was shipped via Fed Ex, and rather than wait in all day (they said it would be delivered sometime before 6PM) I got them to hold it at the depot and I picked it up at 9 AM.

Got it home, activated it and synced it with a few Apps, movies, photos and songs which took about 10 minutes. Connected to 3 different wireless networks - 2 of which I host and one is someone nearby and the Wi Fi has no problems and the same strength as Macbook and IPhone. I wonder if the Wi Fi problems are just in the States?

Now for the fun part.....

Had a quick play about with it before setting off to the Apple store. I had a workshop on Final Cut booked so took the IPad with me.
Never actually got anything done at the workshop - spent the whole time showing the Apple store staff the IPad - it was so surreal!!

Staff were coming up to me asking they could touch it, hold it - everyone of them said it is smaller than they expected. Some staff seemed scared to stop and look while others just gathered round me - trying it out, amazed at the speed. Someone told the manager who just looked at me, the device then walked away seemingly disinterested and after about 20 minutes, he came over and told all the staff to go back to work. It turns out he was present at the launch in the states so had obviously seen it and used it etc. not sure if I pissed him off or not, I guess Apple UK have their plans on how they are doing to introduce the device to Apple staff before the launch at the end of the month and I can now see why (if he was) the manager would be pissed. Instead of his staff looking after customers in the store at the time, helping them with products they are currently stocking, they were huddled wound me looking at something they aren't going to be selling for a few weeks yet.

It was a really weird time though.
I know Apple get their staff up in a frenzy whopping, clapping and cheering on product launches and today I think I finally 'got' Apple.

Apple staff are usually introducing the public to products like this, mostly trying to get them to buy them, obviously excited about the product themselves and experiencing some kind of buzz themselves having such a product in their hands and showing it off. Today though it was in reverse. I was the one showing off a new product that they were excited about - something they hadn't seen yet and wanted desperately to touch and feel.
I guess now I know how the team at Infinite Loop feel when they have a product and they get to show it to people for the first time. someone even joked that I should have worn a turtle neck black sweater and jeans, another said I should have just held it above my head and ran through the store whooping and cheering (Steve Balmer Style).

I've had a chance to play with it for a few hours at home now and I am VERY impressed. Everything opens up so fast, web browsing feels like a totally new and better experience. You can't connect to the App store from the device in the UK, so you have to download Apps on ITunes and sync them.

Worth every penny - if nothing else but to see the look on all the Apple Staff's faces when they saw it.

I felt like Steve Jobs.

That's a pretty cool family you got yourself there :)

for me the killer feature is the battery life. i was using it for about 4 hours yesterday (surfing reading playing games) and the battery was at 75% when i was done. my laptop would have died around 2 hours. no other company seems to care about what consumers really need in a device like this. The windows world just cares about putting as many low quality parts in a product as will fit (and if they don't fit - just make another buldge). i love when i hear about a 5 mega pixel camera in a phone and the pictures are all blurry because its a crappy camera.

way to go apple!

I agree with you 110%. So far I'm getting a full day's use out of my iPad. At the end of the evening The battery still has life. I've yet to run the battery all of the way down. :)

I'm converted, I love this thing!

I was skeptical when I first saw it and said it was just a big iPod, but now that I have it I'm in love! It's just a much more immersive experience and seriously this is one of the most fun computers I ever used. It's so fast and smooth and the screen is stunning, this is without a doubt better than a netbook. The virtual keyboard is not bad at all, I'm typing this post on it now and it's definitely tons easier than on a phone. The build quality and craftsmanship in this device is stunning. I really recommend it, this really does seem like the future!

Me too

I love mine to. I have been using my iPad during the day instead of my laptop. This device definitely bridges the gap between smart phone and laptpop.

Yeah I'm on the same boat as you. I haven't really used my MacBook much since I got the iPad on Saturday. It makes everything much more fun... And I love how many websites are offering HTML5 versions of their sites. Everything came together in the end for me.

Okay, I've had my iPad since early Saturday (actually 2nd person to buy one at my Apple Store). This little device has completely changed the way I use computers. Previously I was on my Mac mini several hours a day. Now I only touch my Mac every other day or so, mainly to update Quicken or to print something off I created on my iPad. I always have my iPad with me (well not always I didn't take it out on the golf course today :p). It's instant on, instant access to web and email make it so easy and enjoyable to use. The biggest benefit to me though is it has completely changed my relationship with my wife :). Previously at night, my wife will sit there watching all kinds of TV shows I have no interest in (Bridezilla, Jon and Kate, etc. - those kinds of shows). I typically would go up to my man cave and watch shows on Hulu or things I've downloaded from iTunes on my computer. Now I sit in my recliner and watch my shows on my iPad (I know I can't watch Hulu, but Netflix is better). My wife says she really enjoys me being down there with her, instead of hidden away in my own little world. I just can not figure out the folks who are against the iPad and even the media who give bad reviews. This device is fantastic. If they would just give it a chance. I was playing golf today and told one of my buddies about it. His first reply was "Well I head it doesn't let you multitask". I said "So what - I never do two things at once anyway". People just read what the haters say without even giving it a chance. But I don't care. I've got one and I love it. And the h___ with the haters and naysayers.

Haven't touched the macbook since last friday. Probably time to sell it :)
iMac and iPad are the way to go.

Preordered my ipad on the 31st and it didn't ship until Monday but i got it today! That's crazy how it went from china to hong kong to the Netherlands to my house in Virginia in 3 days!

Typing on it now.

I see it more as:

Today i got a chance to try out this beauty. This is pretty amazing since i live in a small central-european country where are just premium resellers(just a few) and no apple store at all.
Anyway, before this I decided to skip the Ipad and go for a refreshed macbook pro. But now I know what to do.
My purchase will be a white unibody macbook(for desktop purpose) and a 16 or 32 gig wifi only Ipad(since i have a 3GS, and don't want to pay for another connection).
What do you think about this combo?

PS.: sorry for my english, it's not my mother language:(

Sounds good! No need to apologize for your English as your grammar is so much better than I've seen from posters in forums who actually LIVE in the states :D
