Actually, i'm not JB, I don't want 3.1 so that I can keep my Benm tethering hack intact. :)

I'd like to hear from people who have the same dilemma, if they are able to go to itunes and install the carrier file only, or if it's bundled in with the 3.1 update, thanks.

I am actually using thr Benm tethering hack and MMS just started working for me. No update, no upgrading to 3.1. It just works. My wife is using 3.1 and she needs to connect to update. I'm not sure why this works but it does.

I was just going to post something regarding this:

I personaly could NOT send a MMS without turning off my wifi. I have the carrier update from itunes.

Does anyone else have this issue?

Also with the other carrier files I couldn't send SMS to more than one person at a time. Hope AT&T's file doesn't do the same.

It seems that 5.5 has enabled you to send MMS while Wi-Fi is connected.

This wasn't the case with other carrier files during beta testing.

Good job ATT!

The update is out in Nashville and there's only one cpu with iTunes on it, so everyone is updating on it. It only takes a minute and it works fine. I updated from the hack with no problems.:D:cool:;):D:cool::p:D:):D;):confused:

how the hell do you get itunes on a cpu?

Boston is LIVE

BUT Im on 3.0.1 and I can't get the new file without going to 3.1.
So I did the manual upgrade.

Im sure someone will post the file here and then I can load the update manually.

Ken

where did you get the file?

Chicago is good to go.

not good here. im in chicago dog. just bung up itunes, plugged in my phone and nothing. all it ask me to do it update to 3.1. i refuse to do that. im still running itunes 8. so i guess i have to wait because 3.1 is a no go on this phone right now.

Got the file - did a test - all worked here in NYC

Question - as I have never been into MMS. There's an option to turn subject on or off. The default is off. Is the standard to not have a subject with MMS? What would be the point in having it enabled vs disabled?

Working in Atlanta GA (Airport). connected iphone to itunes, and was offered a new carrier file. Accepted it and rebooted the phone. Sent one message so far and it worked flawless. There was text no message announcing it.

btw - Very smart of Apple re: video MMS. If the clip is too long - it asks you if you want to select a smaller portion of the clip and brings up the "editor" to select before sending. Nice job Apple...

Mms works when sending to other iPhones but I tried sending to a friend on verizon and she didn't recieved a picture anyone else have this or has anyone else even tried

MMS working here.

Phone based in Columbia, South Carolina.

In upstate Pennsylvania right now (Mansfield, PA).

No message announcing MMS. (I'm on a family plan. Maybe that's why.)

real quick. how many people are using itunes 8 and still got the carrier update for mms???

reason i ask is because im still using 8. didnt see a reason to go to itunes 9. also with the firmware update to 3.1 do i need to have that also just to use mms? so dont chew my head off because no one has answered this question as of yet. thanks if you can

Wow, its not even worth sending video. Have you guys seen the quality? yuck! How can we allow for better bitrate cause this is the worst video mms i have ever sent.

Yeah I'm really disappointed with the quality of a video message, even with the great quality of the 3GS camera, the received video is some of the worst video i've seen on a cellphone, AND it's only half the size.

Yeah video messaging isnt the greatest but whatevs...we can finally send pictures! I havent had the ability to send or receive them in YEARS..like, all 3 gen iPhones and even on my blackberry before that I couldnt. So im happy.

that's MMS video. maybe it looks better on other phones with crappier resolutions. There's a maximum file size that can be sent via this protocol. It looks like Apple has allowed for a 1 minute (appx) clip to be compressed to that limitation. MMS hasn't changed much since it was introduced even though phone technologies have. Keep in mind when MMS was developed - screens on phones were small. And the processors inside weren't nearly as capable as they are now.

I successfully sent and received MMS to/from my wife, who is also on AT&T, but doesn't have an iPhone.
