Anybody else have any opinions on this topic?

I have a new MBA 13" i5 8MB 256 ordered on 8/3, arriving on 8/10 per Apple. I ordered a Kuzy rubberized hard case off Amazon. I have a Speck Satin hard cover for my 2011 MBP and it has worked very well for me but I thought I'd try this one at half the price initially as it gets good reviews on Amazon. I'll send it back and order the Speck or Moshi if I don't like it. Moshi's hard cover is supposed to be really nice but is even more $$ than the Speck. I have multiple kids in my house who will handle the MBA on occasion so I just want to be safe. Splurge on the Moshi Clearguard keyboard protector if you decide to use one - they're worth the extra $$ IMO. Found it for $19.99 from BH Photo online with no tax and free shipping.

Well you can always try it and see if you like it. Personally I don't like how it collects dirt inside. It makes the computer look worse over all, if you ask me. And how it looks is part of the fun, IMO.

Yes, I think the MBA looks best in its pure form but if you have the possibility of other people handling your laptop, the hard cover isn't a bad option. I take the Speck Satin off my MBP every month or two and clean it up but I haven't experienced any debris collecting inside or any scratches on my mac.

I mean I'm not worried about other people touching it - I can rest assured that's not gonna happen :p - but I'm actually worried about accidental scratches from myself or items in my messenger bag... BTW could you please send me a link to the accessories you recommended? (Kuzy cover, Moshi more expensive Cover, Keyboard Cover, Speck Cover)

Thanks! :D

To the people who've had experience with macs before - Do you think the mac should be "babied?" I've spent 1,000+ on a machine before but didn't baby it. Does the mac need/deserve it?

Baby it in the beginning. That's fine. That's good. But after a while you'll be tossing it on your bed or floor, and eating BBQ potato chips while using it. That's fine too.

That's how I was with my Powerbook. First year or so, nobody could touch it but me. After that, I didn't care. One example, I was gluing a couple broken keys that I had with super glue, which smeared over some keys. I treated my Mac like less of a object of beauty and more of a utilitarian thing. I'm already developing bad habits with my 1-day old Macbook Air. Picking my nose then touching the keyboard. I shake my head at myself...

That's why I say baby it in the beginning. That's maybe why my computer got to last 7 years. But at the same time, don't stress out about anything.

Just got off the phone with TNT, as it is only 10:30am here, they are saying I need to check the website after 11am to see where it is... that means nearly 25 hours will have passed since it boarded a flight from China, and I won't know if it exploded mid-flight or was lost or broken until then... TNT< pick up your game, real-time updates aren't hard.

What does TNT stand for in these terms? (Sorry I'm new here )

Dang. Ordered an MBA Monday night, awoke to a TNT card saying I'd missed them this morning on Wednesday. Damn quick delivery if I'd caught them! But now begins the wonderful process of getting the item back. Had to get online and retick the re-delivery option. There's an option to leave it behind 'In MY Absence', but can't bring myself to tick it in case it never turns up - then it's my fault. Oh well, hopefully I catch them tomorrow. Bit hard when working night shifts! I wished they'd called or something and woken me up! Didn't even hear the door knock...

Pretty sure if you list your phone number (cell/mobile depending on where you are) you should get an SMS from TNT the morning of delivery... otherwise, use Parcel (iPhone app) it should send a push notification on any change in the shipment...

Then again, might be worth going to sleep, wake up at 8am and stay up until it arrives and put up with being tired...

TNT always calls me right before a delivery to check whether I'm home or not (or awake). Since you order through the Apple store, they have all your information including your phone number. But then again, not every delivery person works the same.

Turns out the guy came back in the afternoon - pretty awesome.

Unfortunately only to deliver my MagSafe 2 adapter, which was something of an anti-climax... ha.

Weird how they ship the two separate. Nevertheless, turns out my MBA has not even shipped yet. Received a crumpler Fug in the mail also today, a very nice lightweight sleeve.

My brand new 13" Air arrived at 4.30pm. By 5.30 Apple support were organising a return and ordering a replacement. Which means *another* eight days of waiting and hoping one turns up in working order this time. Honestly I'm beginning to wonder if this was such a good idea in the first place. I know I am VERY unlucky that this happened as it's not something they see very often, but another week with only an iPad is going to make me completely insane.

What was wrong with it so that you had to return it?

My Macbook Air is Finally Here!!!!!! :D:D:D:):):):) I can't explain the happiness and joy of this moment! OMG! In fact, I'm actually using for this right now.... BTW I think you guys might - and probably are - tired of hearing from me buttt, I just got this and it's so hard to believe and it looks so beautiful that I'm tempted, once again to ask for suggestions on what to "spoil" it with.... Any good recommendations on a keyboard cover and just please throw all your ideas out there... thx.

P.S. @Seared.ahi Sorry if this bothers you...

just got my new machine since original MBA

Hi all,

I'm just posting to say that i got my new machine through work. It's a 13" ultimate with upgraded processor and ram and HD.

I got the original MBA 13" with the upgraded SSD. yeah it had its heat issues etc but it was a gorgeous machine.

This one is just pure genius... everything seems so much better done than the original (unsurprising) and so far I haven't heard my fan kick in once. (light browsing, remote desktop, tethered to iPhone)

I would urge anyone on the fence to get one especially now that mountain lion is free (and it's great btw -- much cleaner than lion)

All best.

When I turned it on all I got was the apple on a grey screen, a spinning wheel and a progress bar. After the progress bar was filled it just shut off. They had me try some reboot options, but nothing worked and it just kept repeating that sequence of events.

I'll be desperately afraid of turning a replacement one on now expecting it to not work. I keep wondering if the universe is trying to tell me something... I've had custom built PCs all my life and never had one that didn't work straight out of the box. There's still a cancel button for a few days on the replacement order so I have a lot of thinking to do.

That's just horrible! Sorry you had to go through that and hopefully everything is fine when you get your replacement!
