New MBA Ordered!

I'm very excited to be getting a new 11" MBA. I ordered it with an upgraded SSD and 8gigs of memory. It will be delivered to my local Apple Store on Thursday.

Initially I was a little worried about the wifi issue, but from everything I read...it was overblown.

The Macbook will be a second computer for me. I'll also be using my new MacBook at work (and for personal computing) as we have a new initiative that allows us to hit Corporate resources by logging into a virtual server farm, which means I can run all of our work apps and network shares.

I have an iMac at home, and of course an iPad and iPhone (I'm good for the Apple stock). I need to figure out a scheme for having two computers. I'd be interested in how some of you balance files when you own two computers. I'm thinking I'll use the cloud for storage. Right now I'm using Dropbox, but maybe I should consider iCloud.

I'm also hoping to buy a nice sleeve by Thursday, but struggling to pick one that looks nice, offers some protection and isn't too costly.

Any input will be appreciated!

After lurking on these forums for the past couple weeks, trying to absorb as much information as I can, I finally decided to pull the trigger and buy my first mac. 13" MBA i7/8/512. Ordered today, the 4th and got an estimated delivery date of the 12th to the 16th (to California)

The only other apple product I've ever owned is my 20gb black and white ipod from 2004, which still runs great to this day, so I am looking forward to having the MBA last me a long time.

Also picked up a 3TB time capsule to add 802.11ac functionality to my fios router and to back up my external hd.

Can't wait for them to arrive and also looking forward to finally using Logic Pro 9 and seeing why everyone likes it so much.

Also wanted to thank everyone for the knowledge provided on these forums. Cheers!

Just got this last night. Actually came in a day early. Checked both the LCD and the ssd. Both are Samsung . I've only used it for a couple hours, but I am loving it so far. Now to get me some apps...

I've ordered the 2013 MBA 13"/i7/8GB/256. It's preparing for shipment.

It's taking soooooooooooooooo long! Never had a mac before now - always made do with iPhone and iPad but thought it was time to invest!

It's like waiting for Christmas without knowing whether Christmas is coming early or delayed....so frustrating! Guarantee I'll be at work when it's delivered then I'll have to wait 24 hours to collect from the Post Office!

Just received my first MacBook ever a lot earlier than expected: i5/8gb/256gb with Samsung SSD and a LG display.

I'm very happy so far and from the looks of it the machine should las me at least 2-3 years.

How much sooner than expected? I placed my order for the exact same configuration early yesterday morning. Initially the order status said it would be available for pickup July 22...now it says July 17. I sure hope mine comes in sooner than expected! :D

For those of you who chose to ship to your local Apple store, what time did you get the e-mail notification for pickup?

First time poster here. I just received my 2013 11" MBA (i5/8/512) and it's amazing. Samsung screen is really bright and no issues that have been reported. Wonderful computer. Super fast, cool, quiet. It's a winner.

I went in my local Mac store(Sweden) and spoke with them on tuesday and they didn't have it in stock and neither was it in stock online. He said it could take up to a week in worst case as it was vacation times etc. which I was fine with

I ordered mine the same evening from home and already next day around 11am I got a mail it was shipped and I picked mine up on thursday after work.

Never owned a Mac before so was worried about the learning curve but so far it have gone better than I thought.

In a coffee shop.
I received my (refurb) 11" MBA a few days ago; it is a spiffing machine, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, and i7 core. I love it - the speed, the space, the blazing fast responses, and the sheer uber-portability. The keyboard is lovely and responsive, too.

One thing I am having surprising difficulty with, however, are the track-pad gestures; I grew up in the old days of Windows, mouse, left and right click (and found that aspect of Apples a little difficult to adjust to; I still cannot remember where the right click is on an Apple - indeed, to prompt me, I had a few special gestures stored on my desktop as a file I could readily access).

My old MBA (the 2010 so-called 'Rev C') still had the space bar, and I find I miss this function; I'm also finding simple things like scrolling down - or, more to the point, trying to scroll down - a right pain, and having to repeat the gestures or hit the reverse key to return to where I was and restart that particular manoeuvre.

Advice - on short and cuts (and creating a file of same to sit permanently on my desktop) would be more than welcome. Today, for the first time in around a decade (because I don't use a mouse, and haven't for years and years) I found myself darkly brooding over the possible purchase of same.

I know that touchscreen gestures are supposed to be the future, and everyone says that they are intuitive (hmm, not my experience so far) but I had not expected to find it so.........unnatural and baffling.

Apart from that, the MBA is a dream.........

Had my macbook air 2013 for 2 days and love it

Hi guys this is my first post, however I been reading the forums for a while. I have to say I love my new macbook air here are the few things I like about it

Screen - I know there is a lot of talk about getting the macbook air or the retina and I thinking about the retina too, however I have to say I very impressed the screen quality, I believe I have got a Samsung panel.

Quiet - I have not heard a whisper from this machine at all :) very important to me I hate noisy machines

Speed - I am running two virtual machines on the macbook, windows 7 and Centos and is running like a dream, no slow down or lag what so ever.

Battery - I have to say I'm really impressed

Firstly, Welcome to MacRumors Thomas!

I'm really glad you like your machine, MacBook Airs are indeed amazing...

As for the Virtual Machine part, Did you custom order the 8GB model from apple or is it the base config? And did you use Parallels or the stock Boot Camp application for the Virtualization.

Thanks!

Hi Everyone,
I decided to jump the wagon and put my 2008 Macbook for retirement.
I ordered i7 8G/512 MBA, I received it yesterday and I love it. Hopefully my sister will love my '08 Macbook.

With this purchase I did get a 1T G-drive external drive with no regrets

Was unfortunate enough to have surgery on 7/5. Wife made a special Trip to Best Buy on 7/7 & was awesome enough to bring back a 11/i5/4/128 with the Ethernet adapter & Magsafe converter.
