Well, sadly I had to cancel the order for the MacBook Air, because I ended up owing SSI money from a failure of communication among getting my job. So now it probably won't be until summertime until I can get one. I may as well have to sell my old MacBook in order to save up for a new MacBook Air... or at least wait until I get my tax returns to see what to do.
Well now, after over two months of saving up after paying that SSI bill and getting my tax refund, I finally re-ordered a MacBook Air in silver finish, with the 8-core graphics, 512 GB SSD and 16 GB of RAM; it should arrive at my address in roughly three weeks.

I wanted to get this configuration. But apple just doesn’t stock 16GB ram model laptops, and I needed one now for school work. The inventory at apple is just terrible.

I purchased the Mac air 8 core graphics with 512GB storage. I am thinking about exchanging for 16GB of ram, just for the sake of better future proofing.

It will cost me $180 extra. And i’m considering it. But i’m not sure lol.

Any thoughts? A lot of people have said the 8GB ram models are sufficient on youtube videos, but after seeing people run games with the mac air, the higher end demanding games will
default higher graphic settings on the 16GB ram model mac air. While the 8GB of ram models default lower graphics.

So I feel like every single youtuber on youtube simply misled everyone.. And they were 100% wrong. Future advice, never listen to a youtuber tech channel lol. Trust your gut instinct.

My 8 core gpu, 512GB model with,8GB of ram is certainly fast enough for my uses. And I do feel happy with it, Im just upset that we have to run lower graphics setting on games like Baldurs gate 3.

OK, my payment for my MacBook Air is now being processed through the bank! It wasn't like that when I initially ordered one in January, as that was taking a while and I was able to cancel the order in time when I owed the SSI money from overpayments (among getting hired at my current job.) Maybe it will indeed arrive within three weeks! But right now I'm on a really tight budget until my next paycheck next week...

And now the status has changed from "Processing" to "Preparing to Ship!" I'm amazed at how fast that was. Maybe they're speeding up production, or perhaps Apple's Chinese plant has been making a batch of MacBook Airs like the one I configured (silver 8-core graphics 512 GB model with 16 GB of RAM) for those who may order one and so they had one like that ready to prepare to ship to me?

NOW I got a notification saying that my order has shipped out! Geez, that's even quicker than I thought, and I only placed the order almost four days ago! The Apple website and such says it will arrive Wednesday, April 7th, but when I checked the UPS tracker it said it'll arrive Monday, April 5th. Regardless, this means my new M1 MacBook Air will definitely be arriving some time in the first half of next week! And at the end of this week, I'll buy a nice USB-C hub (I like the looks of the Falwedi 10-in-1 Dongle) so I'll have it handy once I get the MacBook Air, particularly if I want to transfer data from one of my existing Intel Macs (via a Time Machine backup) to it! (I'll need to move things around a bit so only certain documents are transferred.) I won't transfer apps though; I can manually re-install the ones that are M1-compatible, and get new MacOS/iOS apps that'll work on it.

Just ordered the base M1 Air yesterday. Hadn't decided if I should wait it out or even go for the Pro, but this model seems future proof enough and does everything I personally need. Still stuck on April 2nd - 6th but hopefully it'll arrive sooner!

For those that have ordered in the past, when your status changes to "Preparing for Shipment", does that usually mean it'll change to "Shipped" the same day? Mine changed to that this morning. Hoping to get it tomorrow still!

I went to Apple store today and I exchanged my MacBook Air M1 8GB/512GB (With 8 Core GPU).

Luckily, they had (1) in-stock. I was able to swap for the 16GB/1TB Mac Air M1 and only had to come out $384 extra. Glad I made the switch.

I play Rust a lot, and my 8GB was using like 17GB+ of total system ram consumption. Just the game rust uses over 15GB in ram usage.

Well, for me it changed to "Shipped" the very next day. But now looking at its' UPS tracking number, the delivery date is being updated and should be posted again tomorrow. I'm also going to order that Falwedi 10-in-1 USB-C hub tomorrow on Amazon Prime, since it's also my payday and I'll have a decent amount of money in my bank account again!

How come you guys are not buying in store? You can quickly exchange if you decide to change your mind ( And or want to go with a different color, or more storage etc. etc.

Closest Apple store to me is an hour away. But it's very much worth it.

I was originally gonna order online.

Almost 2 hours away for me. Otherwise I’d go to the store.

My new MacBook Air has arrived! And only ten days after making the order, no less!

This is the first Mac computer that I bought new in the box, as all my previous Macs were purchased used or refurbished in some way. My Apple Mac experience is going to take a BIG leap forward now!

Already transferring my files from my 2009 polycarbonate MacBook to the Air! I'm doing it via Ethernet, since Time Machine was going so slowly on the old MacBook and often failing during the backup process. It's gonna take a while...

Awesome. My M1 Air 16GB/1TB is a true beast. I have noticed the boot time, and also read/write performance destroys my previous M1 8GB ram model. Another thing is the 16GB model uses less ram. (Cold boot time is twice as fast)

I play Rust frequently, and the game would use 15.2GB of ram and 17.5GB total system on the 8GB M1 model.

Well on the 16GB M1 Rust has never exceed 9.8-11GB ram used. And I have never seen ram usage go beyond 12GB total system.

Im not sure if it’s because swapping the ram requires a lot more ram or what. But the M1 with more system ram, always uses much less ram even while running same applications.

Happy with 16/1TB model. Glad I
made the switch.

PS. I ran a storage benchmark on the SSD. This thing put down 5,800MB read speeds, and 8,100MB write speeds. That is beyond just insane. (This test was running while an app was installing) So i'm guessing it’ll be higher.

These new M1 Airs are revolutionary. You can actually use them as power machines.

That's for sure! It's pretty much why I got an M1 MacBook Air, with the 8-core graphics and 16 GB of RAM. Even when I was multitasking on it last night and installing my apps and such, it didn't even run too hot thanks to the M1 chip and the fanless cooling system!

Just sprung for a Gold 16GB/256GB/7-core GPU MacBook Air from B&H, since they seem to have non-standard configurations In-Stock. No month long wait.

16GB is 1000% overkill for me based on youtube videos I've seen, but not getting what I really want would really nag at me. In the grand scheme of things, I'll gladly pay the $200 to not have to worry about it.

Definitely excited to have full blown desktop performance in a MacBook Air form factor. Only thing to do now is wait and see how long it takes for the Touch ID keyboards to come out separately.

My first Macbook Air M1 was a 8GB/512GB. After buying it, everyday I owned it I kept thinking about the 16GB model. Should I exchange? Should I keep what I have? It was quite annoying, even though the 8GB M1 Air was simply a beast. I ended up exchanging for the one I really wanted after about 10 days of torture lol. (That 14 days was running out fast)

Anyways, I am finally satisfied. I just didn't want to regret anything in the future. So 16GB/1TB M1 "8 Core GPU" it is.

But yeah, buy the one you really want. And be happy. No regrets. Once I finally got the model I really wanted, I blew past the Apple return windows like no bodies business lol.

That's for sure! This is why I sprung for the M1 MacBook Air, though I got the 8-core graphics model with 512 GB SSD and 16 GB of RAM in silver finish, and even though it's technically a custom configuration it arrived at my house only ten days after I placed the order! I figured I'd be using it quite a bit (even though I'm still also using my 2012 quad-core i7 Mac Mini as well). I've had this MacBook Air for three weeks now and am still loving it! With the M1 chip it's amazingly fast and powerful; I am especially impressed with how it renders/exports 1080p video in one third of the time it takes my 2012 Mac Mini to do so! I also just ordered a Thunderbolt 2-to-3 adapter, and plan to soon get Apple's FireWire to Thunderbolt adapter (for archiving my DV tapes and such) and a 4 TB rugged portable external hard drive that can connect via USB-C (Lacie makes one that supports both USB 3 and USB-C connections) so I don't always have to use my Falwedi USB-C hub to connect an external drive.

I had purchased the Intel MacBook Pro last May for €2130. Not being a heavy user, I should have gone for the lower-end model. It was my mistake. I mainly work on MS Office applications, mainly on some very heavy Excel files, where it was very sluggish. This May, I finally decided to get the M1 MacBook Air. Just went with the base model and saved €170 in the refurbished store. I am quite happy with it and my heavy Excel files are no longer running sluggish. Then I decided to sell off the Intel MBP and realised that there was no good market for it. I usually sell off my Apple gadgets to a recycling store here in Netherlands, who always offered fairly decent prices. Even they weren’t interested in the Intel MBP. Then I was looked at Apple Trade-in, which I have never used before as I knew their offers were very low. I was surprised when they offered €1230, which was a little less than 60% of the original price. I had thought it would be much lower than that. So, I happily traded in my 2020 MBP. I also wanted a change in colour. So I got the Silver MBA (my MBP was SG). Now I hope I will give it at least a year to get the next redesigned MBA, if the rumours come true.

Ordered an 8 core/16GB/1TB gold Air for my mom last night.

I've been trying to talk her into an iMac but she couldn't decide as she had games and stuff on her desktop she didn't want to lose that aren't available on Mac. well Friday her desktop died and she was forced to get her 2012 MacBook out. I was still pushing for the new iMac but she decided she's rather have a new laptop and the Air seemed a better choice than the pro.

Now I need to find her a nice little hub for it that works and is reliable!

I just bought for myself a MacBook Air 2020 with M1 and it's great ! I really love the new keyboard compared to the 2015 MacBook Pro. The performance is great I think, I didn't notice after 2 hours of use a big change in the department but it's fine. I really like it so far.

Any recommended stuff to do ? Apps ?

Received a refurb M1 Air 8c/8c/16/512 from Apple refurbished site and there were 2 dead pixels side by side in the screen. Bad luck I guess. Bit the bullet and just re-ordered a new 8c/8c/16/1tb since it was available for same day delivery, machine is flawless.

Did you notice any real world difference between the 8 and 16gb? I'm in the same boat and am trying to decide which to keep. I got mine through the refurb store. My ONLY reason for keeping the 16gb is that I'm thinking it will last longer with major OS updates. I'd like to keep it for like 4-5 years.

Received earlier this week my 8/8xPU, 16GB, 512GB MBA, its replacing my 2019 15" MBP. Got a trade-in value such that the MBA cost me <$500 so couldn't resist. It's my backup/travel computer, as I have a 24MP FF DSLR and use Lightroom/Photoshop (while traveling) went with the 16GB version ... love it, size is almost like the old 11" and the battery life is fantastic. Had no issues with my MBP but I'm not gonna miss it ;)

Just made my final order - refurbed 16GB/1TB M1... Should arrive tomorrow when I'll return the 8gb/1tb. I just think I needed the futureproof piece of mind of the extra 8gb.

So I've got mine and I must admit I'm a tiny bit disappointed with the battery life... Maybe I just watched too many YouTube videos expecting a day and a half or two days.... Anyone else surprised?
