Seems madness to upgrade the ram to 16gb but stick with 256, don’t get it.

As mentioned above, because it saved me £200 while I do not need 512 GB of storage. Also, my workload can be handled entirely by 16GB of RAM, which results in zero SSD swap. So 8GB was less likely to future-proof my device and more likely to result in swap.

Hence, the slower speeds few people who actually use the device have noticed in real-world usage are avoided entirely.

Entirely rational, I think!

Placed an order for a base MBA M2 (Midnight, 512/16) on August 19. Shipped on the 30th, and up until now the only status I have on DHL is Shipment Information Received. Service Area: EINDHOVEN - NETHERLANDS, THE.

I'm supposed to get it on Sep 7, but with zero movement it's looking unlikely.

Anyone else wait this long without any movement/tracking?

I went with the 8GB / 256GB Macbook Air, which is perfect for what I want to do with the machine.

I'm sure of it. Since using mine I raised in a previous post that I can see where the system would instead cache fewer files and still run smooth. But I was asked why I went for 16GB but did not upgrade the storage.

I placed an order for a 16” CTO on August 29. I got the email about shipment on Sep 1 and since that there is no status change. “Shipment Information Received. Service Area: EINDHOVEN - NETHERLANDS” is the current status on the DHL site. Based on the estimate from Apple it should be here this Thursday.

Finally pulled the trigger after much deliberating and bought a M2 MBA Midnight 16/256 yesterday, due for collection on 4th Oct.

Longer than I thought it would take, hoping it will arrive early!

Pulled the trigger back on August 26. It was supposed to be delivered today, but UPS dropped the ball and delivered it to someone else. Called Apple and they've created a case with UPS to sort it out; The fate of my macbook air is in the air (pun intended).

I hope you get it soon. What happened? Apple should send you another while UPS investigation is ongoing. It is not your fault what happened. I hope Apple rectifies the situation quickly for you!!

Yeah, I'm not sure. They've created a replacement order, but the shipment won't arrive until 2 weeks from now. I was hoping to get my hands on the Macbook Air this week 🙁

If you got a BTO probably the best they could do. But if I were you I would talk with a supervisor in customer service and ask nicely for one. Then I would say you checked the time for delivery and was wondering if since you have already waited so long they could expedite shipping. I know usually to USA it comes via standard FedEx and maybe they could give you a priority shipping once it leaves China.

In any case I hope you get it soon and enjoy it!

Walked into the local Apple Store today looking to take advantage of the last day of this years education discount. I was thinking the M2 512 SSD model as the smaller model seems to benchmark way slower. Walked out w an in stock 16gb ram 1 tb ssd model. It runs circles around my i7 15 inch 2017 pro already. Silent and feels feather lite.

I actually do have a fully loaded M1 13”Pro as well which will be going to my wife. Just loved the form factor of the M2, the 14” Pro is too big for my needs.

How come? SSD-storage regardless of speed is inferior when used as a substitute for memory. I totally get that someone who uses a lot of memory-hungry applications would opt for just the RAM upgrade. After that upgrade, the concern about storage speed become much lesser.

Why did you choose air over pro with that price tag ?

Size, footprint and weight trumps all for some of us. Remember when Sjobs presented the original Air, it was a device where you paid a premium for its form factor. It massively underperfomed the MBPs (way more than today) and people still saw value in it!

I think that UPS's estimation will not be the date I will receive my product since the shipment is still in Chek Lap Kok, Hong Kong. Plus, customs clearance is not done yet...
