I suppose I'm cheating slightly as its a used one I brought on ebay, but just ordered a Macbook Air M1. Its 256GB SSD, 8GB in Space Grey. Apparently running Big Sur at present according to the listing so I'll have to update that, probably try it with Sonoma seeing as everyone's speaking highly of it. Hopefully be here any day now.
Well that didn't work out as planned. Turned up today, and it seems the seller tried to pass off an Intel model with one third the processing power as an M1. So that's going back, and I'll have to start my search again. :(

I ordered an M2 13" 1TB/8B MacBook Air in Silver from the Apple Refurb Store this weekend and it should arrive on Thursday! I'm really excited. I have been running low on SSD space for a while on my 2012, and the fans blaring for things like Twitch streams have been really annoying, so I'm excited to upgrade. It's funny that Sonoma brings interactive widgets back, and so I won't have to live without them on the new Mac for very long. :p My 2012 Air has served me well, and I'll probably still end up using it for something or another. :)
I got my MacBook Air on Wednesday, and it took a few days of trying to migrate the data using Migration Assistant before I came up with a solution. The Peer-to-Peer wifi connection kept stalling, so I ended up moving the SSD into an enclosure I had and connecting it directly to the new MacBook Air with a USB-C adapter. All good. It's so fast!

Problem solved. Brand new M1 ordered from Amazon with the Prime Day discount, so I'll have a new toy by the end of the week.

yes, but I don’t know if it’s the same price than when you add Apple care to the order (EDU)

Thanks. I looked for restrictions and it said something about only being able to buy the AppleCare under promotion for a product that was also under the promotion. Didn’t see any other fine print, so I think I should be able to get it at the 20% off.

Have you look into this and see if you can get Apple care for a promotion?

Just placed my order for a 15” MB Air in Starlight. Tried to get it under the limit for the Tax Holiday, but didn’t quite get there. Still, got it for 10% off with my Veteran’s discount.

Got my midnight/24gb/1tb in the mail 10 days after ordering. Reminds me of the black MacBook in low light. So far so good!

I love mine... but the midnight is a smudge magnet...
Don't forget dust magnet too, you really see everything! I read all that I could read about the issue, and it's just a tradeoff. I use mine in low lighting more than bright lights, and I dig it's a completely new color compared to the silver and space greys I've had over the years. It's pretty slick.

My beauty came today, a few days early. Nice. Got Win 11 setup with parallels and all good, except I had to buy a key for $12. Worked fine. All seems good. Am still personalizing it. I will only be using it for when I am not home, so it can be a simple setup. Any browser but Safari! 1password and Gmail and I am good to go. Screen is good, have only seen the color at night, will check further tomorrow. I like the name, Starlight :)

Try Brave (arm64 at https://github.com/brave/, click on the blue "Brave Browser" then the "Latest" down to the right, then scroll down & get the arm64.dmg) or the Universal version at Brave.com. Automatic updates when you hit the About Brave menu, and easy to add uBlock Origin etc.
Thanks, good tip! I am getting really sick to my tummy about how EDGE and all the others track me. I hear Brave does not do that.

Brave is based on Chromium, and if you turn off the Rewards function, it is very lean, with no tracking. as far as I know, Chromium doesn't do tracking either, but updates can be quite late at times. The current version(s) are up to date but that is actually a little rare. See; https://github.com/ungoogled-software/ungoogled-chromium-macos/releases/ for the Intel and ARM64 versions.
Brave is easier to use, as installing extensions is easy, while it is quite complex to do that with the ungoogle-chromium binaries. To do that, you have to use a sync version temporarily and then switch back to the ungoogled version after adding extensions. An Intel Sync version is available for that at https://chromium.woolyss.com/
Accordingly, Brave gets the top place Chromium-based browser prize.
Is there proof that MS Edge tracks users or is that common knowledge? Somehow I doubt it as Edge is based on the ungoogled (no tracking) Chromium, but I am not certain.
