Some of you may (or most likely not) remember that I was waiting on delivery confirmation of a new 20" iMac I got on offer via my in-law's workplace.
When the new iMac specification launched on March 3rd, my order was thrown into doubt because the small print read that in the event of a new model coming out, it would be provided at the original discount offered (23%).
Well, on the morning of 19th March I received an email saying that my order was in place, and with that I got a "W" tracking number. Just after 10pm on the same day my iMac changed from "Preparing to Ship" to "Shipped", and at 4:12pm on the 20th my iMac arrived at my front door via UPS.
The original order was honoured, so I received the 20" 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo with 1GB DDR2 (upgrading this to 4GB via Crucial for £40 or so), 250GB HDD, ATi Radio 2400 HD GPU, etc.
In the end I didn't get the new one, which I have mixed feelings on (this would have cost me an extra £130, coming to £743), but for £612.47 I am in no place to complain.
Compared to my "old" iMac, a 17" 1.83GHz Core Duo, this thing is an absolute screamer. I love the glossy screen when watching HD movie files (Transformers and The Dark Knight especially), and Call of Duty 4 runs superbly well on Vista via BootCamp, although I need to download the latest BootCamp drivers because the sound of Vista has installed fine, but it's extremely low even with the speaker volume turned up to the highest setting.
Anyway, I'm extremely happy with both Apple's delivery and service quality, as well as the machine itself. When I sat this machine next to my 17" white iMac, it made my old system look horribly dated in a way I'd never have imagined. At least my wife is happy to have the old one for her emails, iTunes, and Bebo!
