All iMacs (inc. 20" which doesn't have the ATI 4850 option) are now shipping 7 days rather than 24 hours like all other products.

Two days ago I received an email letting me know my 24" ATI 4850 was shipping out in a few days. Is this 7 day delay maybe due to Apple trying to roll out the 4-5 weeks of backed up orders of 4850's? Only thing is I wouldn't expect that to impact the 20" model - unless there is only one guy who assembles iMacs and he works really really hard.

and a "few" days is how many days? 3? or 10?

9 days = a few days.

Dear Apple Customer,

Thank you for you recent order with the Apple Online Store.

Due to overwhelming demand, the shipment of your order has been delayed. We anticipate that your order will now be shipped from our warehouse on 14 April. When your order ships, we will send you a shipment notification email with the anticipated delivery date and tracking information.

We apologise for any inconvenience the delay has caused.

Thank you for choosing Apple!

Kind Regards,
The Apple Store

100%, all orders have been delayed. This is not a problem for one type of model, it's in general. So instead of expecting my iMac this week, it will be now another 10 days.

Go look at the store site, all iMacs now are 7days to deliver, rather than 24hours like they used to be.

Err I think there may be a problem with orders, or just my order...

This has never happened. But I ordered my iMac like 3 days ago and it was due to be shipped on the 7th of April...now it says 'Cancelled' for that order and a new one has been done to be shipped for the 17Th april.

I havn't touched anything and yet I seem to now be getting one shipped two weeks later. Any reason?

Exactly the same thing happened to me!

Ordered: iMac 24" 2.66, 1Tb HD, numeric keyboard.

frustated customer

Hi,

as mentioned before. I ordered the imac 24" 2.66 Ghz (with wireless mm & keyboard) + Apple Care on last Tuesday morning.
Since Wednesday it's prepared for shippment. But nothing happend so far. The reps from the customer line said "should be shipped every minute" but nothing is shipped.
I mean if they say: ships within 3 bdays I expect them to do so?
Am I wrong?
My iMac is waitin in Praha for me...

No.
  • I bought an iMac, not a Leopard.
  • Snow Leopard won't come out any earlier than June.
  • I needed this computer last month, actually, so next month is already painful enough. I don't mean that in a whiny when-will-it-get-here sense; I mean it in a our-work-is-losing-many-hours-of-productivity sense.
  • I would rather have a .7 release of an operating system than a .0 one.
  • Anyone timing their hardware purchases around software releases is doing it wrong.

What do you mean .7? You have 10.5.7 O/S? I have 10.5.6 and there is no update for me when i run software update?

What do you mean .7? You have 10.5.7 O/S?
No. I mean that 10.5.7 (and possibly 10.5.8) will make its appearance far before 10.6.0 does. And 10.6.0's release will not immediately invalidate 10.5's usefulness; instead it will likely highlight how nice a relatively bug-free OS can be.

It looks like there is some pent-up demand for the iMac or they underestimated it in this economy. I'm sure that's a big reason for the delays. Look on Apple's site. It's their #1 selling computer now and it's been that way since the new lineup was announced. It wasn't that the previous 6 months at least.

Well being that this thread exists, I am extremely excited that I ordered my refurbished 24" 2.8ghz, I ordered it on friday morning from my G1 from the bank parking lot after I had deposited the money, I couldn't wait to get home.

Well my imac it's on its way to my place, will be here in 3 days april 9th 2009, and being my second imac (had to sell my old 20" one to pay bills, got it from craigslist, only had it for 2 weeks :(...) I'm super excited,

The only thing that I'm kinda annoyed is that the specs is that comes with 2 ram sticks for 2gb ram, it should be 1 2gb stick, I'm hoping when the imac gets here I get 1 ram stick thou, wish me luck!

To all new owners, congrats, any refurbhished owners out there? How were they when you got it? Was it in like new condition?

I had an original delivery date of 7-8th April but last week the order was cancelled and replaced with an identical order with delivery dates of 17th - 20th April. Well the status of my order has now changed to "prepared for shipment", still the same delivery date. Just have to wait and see whether it gets delivered by Lear Jet or horse and cart :p

It's shipped!!

Just had email saying it's shipped, hoorah!

But estimated delivery on or before 14th : (.

Ordered 31March

iMac 24", 1TB HD, numeric keyboard

shipping tomorrow

Got a message from a rep, that my iMac will be shipped tomorrow. After 8 days. :(
Due to a system error...
Hello,

Thank you for your email,

The reason for the delay was not made clear to me when I queried my support team. They advised it was due to a system error which affected a number of orders but which has now been rectified. I have submitted the address change request and will get a reply today to advise on that.

It's all a bit odd. Mine was cancelled, I expect probs due to problems their end. But then the same order was re done and said prepared for shipment up until yesterday. Now it says it's been shipped....

So Ive got an email saying on or before the 14th.

It said 17th on Apple for me before, due to the delays. So now, hmmmmm, what chances are there that it could be here for Thursday?!

I suspect that they had a rush of orders, ran out of stock locally, held everything up. Now they've had a new delivery and are fulfilling back orders. Quite why they have to go through the palaver of cancelling and resubmitting orders is beyond me.

CONGRATS! I also ordered the refurb 2.8Ghz/2600 Pro as I feel it is the best bang for the buck. I ordered it yesterday, and Apple already emailed saying it has shipped. Fedex tracking has it arriving on Friday.

I went ahead and ordered a 4GB set from newegg for $48 shipped. I run Windows 7 in VMWare (for Visual Studio), so I need the extra RAM. I didn't mind spending that since we are getting such a good deal on the iMac.

hey thanks a lot, and congrats 2 you as well, i am extremely excited since the fedex site now has my delivery for tomorrow! yeay! haha, and i did order some extra ram from amazon but its a 2gig ram stick, hence the fact im not too happy, i also run vmware and running them on 2/2 ram works awesome.

Either way congrats on your purchase and i hope you also get your imac earlier, i went to the apple store to looks at the 24" imac and i shouldnt have, im a little too anxious now. looked gorgeous,

i have a question thou, on CNeT reviews (not a big fan of CNet) they said that the 24" "Still doesn't have and HD screen" i know that that's an old review and that the graphic card is a radeon HD but where they wrong or what? just curious cause that screen looks HD to me.

any thoughts? facts?

yeah got my 24" refurb a few weeks ago. The $1049 model. LIke new condition. I couldn't tell any difference.

My only complaint is it seems a bit noiser than my old 20" alu imac refurb. They are telling me its normal for the fans to run at low rpms all the time. I don't recall hearing fans at all on my 20" iMac.

My iMac was ordered on the 3rd, estimated shipping 22-23rd April, This changed yesterday to say it had shipped with estimated delivery on 16th, interestingly on the 11th it says that it will be " Transit to Customer - Shipment on Schedule".

As far as I know, that's not true. The resolution is 1920x1200.
