hi guys... I just pull the trigger.. ordered 21.5 basic!!
yea I know update is coming... graphic card on 21.5 basic will be updated at least... anyways.. I dun want to play this waiting game any more...
good luck everyone...
Congrats on your new mac. I did the same thing almost two weeks ago and have no regrets. It's a great machine.

Awesome, thanks!

Also how must you go about exchanging if you ordered online and not from a store? I live a few hours from the closest apple store unfortunately.

Sorry, but who is John Gruber?

He is taking my hype to the limits.

Tomorrow could be the day : iMac - iPod (for free) - Printer (for free) - Time Capsule.

I won't be able to sleep tonight.

The bad thing is that they won't release the new iMac tomorrow :(

EDIT : http://daringfireball.net/linked/2009/10/19/tomorrow

That guy was right with the last update...

God, it's killing me!

What are the chances for a total redesign? I mean, Apple always chooses for the unexpected, now, everyone expects no significant updates. So, I guess they might've chosen for a total redesign of the iMac.

Correct me if I'm wrong (with some good arguments).

p.s what's the time between the announcement of an press-event, and the shipping of the new iProduct?

The previous update was so significant so I doubt Apple has any plans to redesign the iMac. All Macs are now made of aluminum os there is no need to change that. Usually the new products will ship in 24hours or within couple business days. However, there is no press event scheduled for tomorrow but that does not change anything

I take it, I can get this free printer and ipod if im a student? Is it a rebate? Is this deal going in the UK?

I asked this in another thread here but that one seems to be redundant / not monitored by the regulars...

Will I still be able to order the current generation of imacs online (at a discount) when the new ones are released?

Yes, for all three points. It's a rebate so you have to submit a rebate form in here. It's going in UK as well

They will be found from refurb store

Yea just had a ganders at it. iPod Touch are £150 but rebate on it is £130 so technically I dont get it free unless I go for the lower iPods? Mind you £20 for an iPod Touch aint bad. Also does the rebate mean the money goes to my debit card? or do I get apple vouchers?

No iPod is free for us, Europeans :( Yes, the money will be returned to your debit card when your rebate has been processed.

I wonder if they are going to go with bigger screen models. I'm hoping for a 24" and a 30".

Who knows. A 21.5" is on the small side, but the 27" is huge! I would love to see a return of the 24" model. Some folks seem to "need" a 30" monitor...but I just don't see it. I am hoping that we see a 24" iMac again...but am not holding my breath. If they upgrade the GPU and bump the speed on the 27" iMac then I will buy.

There was a statement already posted somewhere in the forums, but the question is, what will the screen resolution?

I highly doubt they will be making a 24, but if I'm wrong then i guess its time to welcome a new 24 inch imac

I for one hope the update is insignificant, as I bought a 27" i7 a couple of weeks ago :( .

Me and you both. I was wondering if in the past within 30 days if Apple will offer some kind of "price match refund" or offer to swap with one of the new models? Anybody know what they've done in the past in this situation?

You have 14 days to return it, that's all. If you're lucky, you may be able to exchange it for a new one by paying a small fee but that's up to the rep you're dealing with. It's worth a shot though

Fellow 'already have a 27" i7' guy here - and hoping for an insignificant update lol. USB 3.0 would come in handy as I am currently eyeing up an external hard drive and it would broaden my horizons as it were.

But I was just doing the maths, I am quite a keen eBayer. If I can assume that the refresh will not put off your average ebay visitor looking for an iMac (which I do not think it will), I could probably shift this model for hopefully upwards of £1700 on eBay (I do not think that is too ambitious looking at the completed listings).

I am a student and I do therefore benefit from the Apple discount (I think it is around 11%-13%, somewhere in that region on iMacs). So my model currently costs £1956 (I think) from Apple at RRP, if that is the same for the refreshed models, then with the discount it would be around £1700 anyway, plus I would have an iPod touch to rebate.

Just thinking out loud here but I do not think getting the newer one (through selling the current one on ebay) will be a costly venture.

Sad I know!

My optimistic side says yes, my practical side thinks that we haven't been hearing about supply shortages long enough and think next Tuesday.

I have a feeling that you may be right. I tried to "test buy" some macs on the Apple store and all said shipping within 24 hours. Same with Amazon.com. But who knows it may be tomorrow. I'm more of a pragmatist or rather a cautious optimist, lol.

Been following this thread since the beginning. I'm on a 6 year old PC and want my future iMac to last 5+ years. I'm a light user but want to future proof, so I'm aiming for the i7.

Will the refresh be available from resellers on day 1? BTO options as well? I really don't want to pay tax on that thing.

No one is sure if there is even going to be a refresh. It's a rumor right now. If there is, it definitely won't be available from resellers on day one.
