So, does the new Truecaller work on iPhone 5 (32 bit)? Specifically, the new option in Settings > Phone > Call Blocking & Identification. Does this section list TrueCaller?

Very interested if 10.1 introduced a 32 bit extension for this feature or if it remains 64 bit only.

Edit: it works!

Hello again,

Yes, we support 32 bit. Simply install Truecaller and go to the settings you mentioned and enable Truecaller.

Best,
Kamran

I have True caller on my iPhone 7 Plus. Just came from android so this app seems different. When I go to the call block settings I don't see where to enable True caller. I just see numbers I've already blocked. Not sure if I enabled it right.

In the app store, they claim that "Contacts permission is now optional." However, the app itself still insists access to contacts is required.

The same here. It's severely crippled without access to contacts which should not be needed!

The way I understand it, if you want to use the lookup feature, it wants contact information but shouldn't need it for spam blocking and identification? I could be way off though

I initially had this issue. I deleted and redownloaded Truecaller and opened the app. Then it showed for me under "Call Blocking and Identification"

Just came out yesterday. Need some time to get spam calls to see how it works. Might take awhile for people to answer in your thread.
Yes, the CallKit is only fully fixed since 10.1, and both apps were recently updated to take full advantage of this, but both apps were out much sooner. Simply figured people had been using the , especially since they have thousands of App Store reviews.

This didn't work for me. I can't get Truecaller to show up under "Call Blocking and Identification" no matter what I do.

I contacted support and was told to delete any other call blocking apps (I had Hiya installed so I deleted it), restart the phone, install Treucaller, restart again and then check in "Call Blocking and Identification", but Truecaller never shows up.

Edit: App Store is filling up with 1 star reviews complaining of the same problem.

3.2 is live in app store (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/hiya-caller-id-and-block/id986999874).

Hank - still need to verify your number. contacts permission is optional. CallKit identification features work without contact access.

I'm still having a problem with this version that I had in the previous version where if I disable Hiya under "Call Blocking and Identification", I can't re-enable it until I uninstall the app and reinstall it. If I just try to enable it, I get a spinning gear for a few seconds and then it shows as disabled again. This persists even if I restart the phone. Once I got the following, but usually it just disables itself without any errors:

IMG_0594.PNG

I noticed that if I install the Hiya app, but don't run it. I can toggle Hiya off and on in the ""Call Blocking and Identification" without issue. I can even continue to do so, if I run the Hiya app and then don't go past the start up page (i.e. don't click "Get Started"). Once I get to the Login page though, I can no longer toggle Hiya on, once it's been toggled off until reinstalling the app, which is annoying because I pay per SMS and I need to receive a SMS every time I want to log back into the app after uninstalling and reinstalling it.

I'm pretty sure under iOS 10, I could toggle this off and on without having to uninstall and reinstall.

Yeah, the whole callkit feature still seems broken in 10.1. I'm at the point where if I install any of these apps, I can't turn off the feature in Settings, and the phone gets super hot and battery starts draining quickly. The only thing I can do to stop it is to delete any CallKit apps.

Callkit in 10.1 is still wobbly if you have multiple apps installed. If you see an error enabling extension, try to kill the settings app and try again. if that doesnt work, then you have to uninstall all callkit apps and install Hiya again. This is not a hiya specific issue. Happens to all apps who load large number sets in Callkit.

Do these apps load a larger number database the newer the phone (more memory), or are the database the same regardless of phone model?

Killing the settings app gets Hiya to show up if it's missing (only happened once), but even if there are no other Callkit apps installed, once I get to the login screen (I don't need to actually log in), if I toggle Callkit off for Hiya, I can't turn it back on without uninstalling and reinstalling. If I don't go to the login screen I can turn it off and on as much as I want.

Also I tested with another Callkit app installed, but not enabled since it doesn't show up (Truecaller). The same thing happens. I can turn Hiya off and on, until I get to the login page. Once I do that only way to enable Hiya if disabled is to uninstall the Hiya app.

On a side note, when I upgraded to iOS 10.1, Hiya was automatically disabled which is how I found this bug since I couldn't enable it.

A quick question about Callkit though. Does it work for Wifi Calling on an iPad? I have Hiya installed there as well. It too was disabled after upgrading to iOS 10.1, but unlike on my iPhone 7 Plus I can toggle it off and on without issue. I don't think it works though since calls come into the FaceTime app instead of the phone app.

Installed both TrueCaller and Hiya, today. I signed up for each service, although I didn't allow access to my contacts for either app. After this, I turned on the app in the Phone section of the Settings app. My question is: are these apps actually blocking spam calls or are they merely just putting a calling ID over them when someone calls? Or both?

Because with Hiya, despite flipping the switch on for it in Settings, the app itself won't allow you to change the settings to block calls within the app without allowing access to contacts. So my question, if the Hiya developer is reading (or if anyone here knows): will Hiya only block spam calls if contact access is allowed, while merely giving caller ID (without blocking spam calls) to those who don't allow contact access?

Is this also the behavior for TrueCaller? Or am I misinterpreting the intention of these apps? My understanding was that, through CallKit, these apps would be enabled to automatically block spam callers; basically, the phone equivalent of what Content Blocking is for Safari. If anyone could provide some clarity, that would be greatly appreciated.

Auto-Blocking requires contact access. That is to ensure we do not inadvertently block numbers in your addressbook. The way ios implements blocking, the user gets no indication of a blocked call. Nor does the app. This can lead to cases (rare but not impossible) where calls can be blocked for a while and user is oblivious to it. If you want to enable auto blocking in Hiya you need to grant contact access - thats the product call we have made.

Thanks for confirming that without access to contacts this app is severely crippled and can't be really considered a call blocking app.
Oops, I just hit the delete app button - that's the user call I made.

Hey,

We do not block/reject the call, we do the best by warning you.

You can still use our (Truecallers) spam filter without allowing contact access. But our first two tabs 'Call' and 'Contacts' will not be functioning. And while we talk about 'Contact access', we use the contact information to generate a personalised graph which helps us to provide you with more accurate search results. With that being said, please keep in mind that we never upload the contact information to our servers. That is against the Appstores guidelines. We only use the numbers to generate the graph.

Best,
Kamran @ Truecaller

Hey,

Try to re-install Truecaller and see if you can enable CallKit. It usually works.

You don't need internet connection to be notified about spammers once you activated the CallKit.

Hi guys,

Can some one tell me how the heck to block "Hidden" or "Withheld" callers???

Hi Trezona,

Unfortunately not. In order to block a private number, we require access to your call log and this is not approved by Apple. With that said, no third party app has access to it.

However, you can do it on our Android app.

Best,
Kamran @ Truecaller
