HTC One Max review from the Verge: http://www.theverge.com/2013/10/14/4836286/htc-one-max-review

I predict this device will do poorly (as I predicted long before). It just doesn't offer any prospective phablet owner anything that the Note III can't do and probably do better thanks to the stylus.

It looked like HTC just literally blew up the One, made a few tweaks accordingly, and left it. And while choice of screen sizes within HTC"s world is always a welcome, it's not going to do well against the likes of the Note III, in my opinion.

Whereas, with the Note series, you can tell Samsung really tried to offer a unique and specific experience (S-pen and all).

I hope no one is thinking the One Max will help HTC out of their troubles...

Oh, and the camera still sucks.

Yea this does not seem like anything special. I will keep my HTC One, and have no issues doing so.

Couch you sure love hating on the camera don't you?

While there are improvements to Sense in the One Max, there's nothing like this:

Top 10 Note III Features: http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/10/14/top-10-samsung-galaxy-note-3-features-video/

Apparently. I just do not find it to be as bad as you say. Maybe I have much lower expectations for a camera on a phone.

It's just that HTC made a big fuss about bucking the trend and going with an Ultrapixel camera that was supposed to deliver amazing low light performance, and the reality has been more hype that delivery.

Low light images are only marginally better -- and I mean marginally. As in, barely any better. As in, pretty much negligible. One might as well stick to the flash.

And then regular lighted images are all over the place with the white balance and the light -- it usually lets in too much light and you get overexposure. So to get any decent shot, you have to adjust the settings. For times where you want to just do a quick snap, the camera often fails.

Plus, things just come out with more noise and blur than I like.

Finally, while Zoe is cool, it's kind of in no-man's zone; it's not really a picture, but it's not really a video. Fun for a bit, but ultimately forgettable and useless to me.

Yea I have not had my HTC one for nearly as long as you have, but I also don't need a great camera in a phone like it seems you do. I am ok with the camera. The camera is not a feature I have to have the best of.

This sums up the Max unfortunetly.

The Verge said:
I can think of no good reason to buy the One max over the original One or even the One mini. And if you absolutely must have a large-screen device, Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 does a better job at almost everything while also being smaller and lighter.

They could have at least gave the camera a bump but instead have taken OSIS out resulting in poorer quality ??? The one area the HTC One struggled and could have done with a boost (even just to 8mp) and they didn't take the opportunity to do so. Just strange...

Yeah, it's really puzzling. It's decisions like this that really hurt them.

So if the Nexus 5 is a hit and you plan to make the switch, what will y'all do with your Ones?

This is something I've been contemplating. I did the GPe conversion on my One, which will probably be enough to keep me a way from the Nexus. I do miss the software keys and the location of the power button on the Nexus though - and wireless charging would be nice.

I bought an unlock code the other day just in case I decide to sell it, as it's always easier to sell an unlocked device.

HTC completely botched the HTC Max. Unless you really need a larger screen, it's actually worse than the One in a few ways (such as camera and storage).

I am normally a stock android kind of person, and even if the nexus 4 had some issues it was my go to phone. Now after using the One it has become that. Sense 5 is the cleanest, and most usable skin on android. I might buy the N5, but there is no doubt in my mind I am keep the One. One of the best if not the best phones I have ever used.

Well, you always have the option to root it and enjoy stock android on your ONE. I see no reason in buying the nexus 5 unless they reveal some real killer features the ONE isn't capable of (which I doubt).

Oh no doubt about that. I just like sense 5 so much I don't need to root to get stock. If I don't get the N5 I will just stick with my N4 and HTC one

And why include a removable battery cover if you can't remove the battery! I also don't like the fact that the US version has 32GB while the international version is 16GB.

One thing I do like is that they moved to sleep button to the side but I guess they kinda had to.

I still don't know why they're not using the "HTC" logo space as the finger print scanner and/or home button.

When I tried it on my One it was kinda hit and miss because the sensor underneath it doesn't cover the whole logo if I'm not mistaken.

They can adjust that, though, I would think? Make the sensor larger underneath?

Capacitive buttons used to be even more crowded in the past:

Don't really know about the technical details but seeing as the phone is bigger I would imagine there's more room in there. They use 3 buttons on the Butterfly so no idea why they insist on 2 in the One line.

Right. That's the perfect example there.

I too hated the camera on the One. It was one of the main reasons I got the Note 3 the day it came out. The Note takes gorgeous photos.

What the heck are you guys talking about??? :D We're all still loving every inch of the HTC One phones we bought a few weeks ago. It's not the world's sweetest camera, but the resolution is fine, and we love the other features. Oh well.....
