Klug reads like an HTC fanboi. He goes on and on about how great the HTC One is because it is a "all-metal phone" and then mentions that it is also made out of plastic, which he fanboi bashed in the paragraphs before.

Anandtech "battery life" tests are also suspect since they don't provide details about what exactly they load for their test "web sites". They also purposely disable any power saving features if the smartphone gives an option, which is moronic. If they want to do some proper battery life tests, they would stream YouTube videos / Netflix, and have push notifications going for FaceBook and Twitter in the background.

The damm iphone 4s still shows 8hrs of browsing time in the charts lol

I only trust battery info from "regular" people; anyway it was a very long review and hope all the best for HTC.

Not only, that, but the idiot that is Klug of AnandTech first bashes plastic as a material in the first page of the HTC One review (even though the HTC One is also made of plastic) and then on the second page goes on to rave how great an all-plastic case is for the HTC One:

The hard case consists of three pieces — one large plastic component which slides on over the device, and two end caps which snap onto the top and bottom..........I think the hard case looks awesome on the HTC One......

From all the antics I have seen from AnandTech here and in the past, I think AnandTech reviews are just as bad as anything from TheVerge, except AnandTech tries to act like a fake know it all that can't see it's own faults. As a technologically literate person, I find AnandTech to be repulsive, to be honest.

As someone who is actually using a HTC One though, he is pretty much spot on. He doesn't make any claims about the device in its testing and results which are not accurate from my daily experience.

You might disagree with his subjective opinions about looks and such, but his battery life tests do concur with most other sites test results. And from my own usage I have no problems with battery life, and I do not use any part of the power save function. I'm a strong moderate user and I'm lasting the entire day with at least 45% left.

The reality is HTC do have a lovely phone in the HTC One. But it still won't stop the S4 dominating this years Android flagship sales (and yes the S4 looks great too) but at least it gives people a viable option if they don't like aesthetics or Touchwiz UI on the S4 of a really good quality android handset by someone other than Samsmung.

As someone else who has ordered the HTCOne and had delivered since launch, I can confirm that there are no issues with the battery and it does seem to last majority of the day with 'heavy' usage.

by putting anandtechs review of the htc one in the same bracket as the verges "i looked at the device for two hours, heres my review" you immediately disqualified your statement as being technologically literate.

while there are faults with every review, show me one which uses more objective tests.

the verges review is a disgrace and generally shows the lack of depth or effort they put in reviews for anything other than apple reviews.

I wholeheartedly disagree with you.

The review was good and thorough but I worry that he was so enamored by it because it was different. He said so himself that it was an exciting device to review because it wasn't the same ho drum android phone.

Bucking the trends, while refreshing, doesn't always mean it's good.

The camera in low light looks good but looks dreadful in light. That'll be a mixed bag.

as he wrote, it depends on your usage, facebook uploads will look good but anything above 1080p will look less than stellar. best phone camera ist still the iphone 5s, but the one does a decent enough job overall i guess

What is up with htc customer service. Their hours of operations for their sales line for Saturday is 8 am to 4 pm. I called them at 8:50 and the automated message is saying currently closed.

Worries me.

Still getting the "offices are closed" despite trying two separate numbers and despite being well within office hours.

Their customer service is really turning me off. Don't know what's going on.

At least at Google Play, they're opened 24 hours and someone actually picks up.

Which exact number did you call?

Which exact number did you call?

First I called the number from their site: 866-449-8358. I was told this was for tech support only. It doesn't say that on the website, btw.

I was given this number instead for the LetsChat sales line: 866-825-5460 and was told hours of operation are 10 am - 4 pm on Saturdays. Called at 10:30 am and got nothing.

I also sent than an email yesterday, and got a response to try the Sales number: 866-416-3059 and was told those hours for Saturday are 9 am - 4 pm. No luck there either calling well after 9 and 10 am.

----------

I still also haven't gotten a confirmation email for my pre order. Bizarre.

I simply punched 866-416-3059 in google and a couple of seconds later received this page:

http://shopamerica.htc.com/about/contact1.htm

It states: "Saturday: 8:00AM to 4:00PM PT (11:00AM to 7:00PM ET)"

Couch, you really make me shake my head at times :) :)

This is what I got in the email:

"For further assistance about this inquiry, please contact Shop America at 1-866-416-3059 Monday-Friday 7 am to 7 pm - Saturday 8 am to 4 pm - Sunday 8 am to 4 pm."

No word of time zones. Not my fault! :O

Thanks!

Preordered the Dev Edition yesterday, I'm pretty excited. My big worry at this point is an Android phone in an OS X environment. I see they have Sync Manager software for OS X but we'll see. I'll probably have to lean on Dropbox a whole lot more in the future.

The Anandtech review was really good. I'd like to see a followup on AT&T LTE radio performance and some benchmarks, but other than that it's pretty comprehensive. The camera seems to be fairly average but exceptional in low light situations. That nighttime video comparison between the 920, iPhone 5 and One is pretty impressive.

Just 13 more days to go :(

Ok folks well first big big test today.

I was climbing mountains today with my HTC One, and so I was using it a lot snapping away and making Zoe's on the way.

https://share.htc.com/Aa9pi8Db3

I took well over 100 photos today. And from 6:30am off charge, then at 8am started climbing to 2pm off the mountain, my battery was down 30%..... 30% and all that usage for the camera!! The battery in this thing is great. Even when I've been showing everyone my Zoe's and uploading them, I'm down to 60% and that's a heck of a lot of heavy usage today.

I'll upload some of the pictures shortly. They're excellent (if not a little low resolution ;-) )

Got through to a rep and they were a little rude, but not a biggie. They said my order went through, but had no clue why I didn't receive a confirmation email. That's fine as long as the order is through.

I also asked them about the return policy and they say for unlocked phones, "14 days from activation..." activation means the day you receive the device. Which is good.

Lastly, when asked about where to mail in trade-in phones, they told me to go to the website and if it's not there, email the support. I've sent them an emailing asking what address to send it to, how it'll link to my pre-order of the HTC One, and if there's just a page at their site with more info. It's all a little vague.

I'll post what they respond with.

Overall, I'm not terribly thrilled with the CS.

The pics definitely look soft in light. I'm concerned about that. Otherwise, pretty nice.

I shouldn't worry too much, I noticed when I got back to the car that I had a bit of finger grease smudge on the lens on one side more than the other, but it was too late at that stage to worry about it. DOH! :(

I also never shot in 'landscape' scene mode  I didn't spot the setting till messing about with Zoe after  Oh well it just gives me another excuse to have to go back up the mountains :)

Definitely more resolution wouldn't go amiss though - but for just facebooking / instagram / twittering and emailing them to friends they do their job.

Ideally an 8 mp with a 2 micron lens would be perfect but I realise it would made the phone thicker or the camera jut out at the back. The Zoe share feature is very handy though.

I also think it's using a very harsh compression technique which is actually softening a lot of the detail too.

It's definitely a camera of compromises.

Maybe getting this will help me get back to using my Nikon d90 again and use the cell for quick pics.

I'm not really understanding where the ultra pixels thing is coming in handy. The photos look bright enough on my 8MP 4s. Does it allow faster shutter times? I understand the advertising..."300% more light..." I just fail to "see" the use in the pictures...Seems to me that the majority of people take pictures during the day. I think HTC should have just gone with whatever the norm is these days for high MP cell phone cameras.

I'll keep an open mind until I get the device and try it out for myself, but for now, I agree. It's a hefty tradeoff just to get good low-light performance. Most my pics happen in the day time too, or at least under some sort of light source. Plus, there's always that bright LED flash.

And for years, smartphones have been working their way up to be good enough standalone shooters so you don't have to carry an actual camera, and then to go back to "acceptable for FB, Instagram, Twitter" does feel like a bizarre step back.

I'm not as enamored by the whole bucking the trend that Anandtech seems to be so enamored by.

Some things shouldn't be bucked. The camera may be one of them. The home button configuration is definitely another.
