those pics look horrible, almost as if you had a defective lens or put the sharpness -50. :(

the terrain is a soft blurry mess in most of the pictures.

and the one with the people sitting on the stones looks too sharp too much noise.

are you sure you dont have a defective lens? maybe you should try more comparison shots with the iphone 5 in daylight.

I also don't get why they didn't include AWS support. I'm not that confident about Tmobile's LTE yet. It's a shame it doesn't support AWS HSPA+.

And for those pointing to the refarmed areas, please, the moment you go inside the building, you can kiss HSPA goodbye. It's Edge most of the time indoors.

I wonder how the camera is for close up shots? I am an outdoors person and take a lot of close up shots of plants and whatnot. If it does a good job at that, then it's fine or my needs.

Can we see some macro shots? Try to see just how close you can get too. The 300% greater light capture ought to help out on close ups.

macro shots, as portrayed in many reviews, are really very good with the one. just look up the comparisons.

Lol......

Actually I think I may have a dodgy camera lens. I've noticed that I have more blurriness on one side than the other and some folks over on XDA have experienced same, and the only solution was to replace the handset.

So yeah, I think my camera is suffering from this. Something is certianly off with the over aggressive softness / compression and the bluriness either bottom right or top left (landscape/portati) is a clear sign I have a defective lens :(

So on to Vodafone monday to get it replaced I guess :(

Have the Beats headset from my old HTC Rezound lying around. Think it'll work on the HTC One? Kind of annoyed that the developer version doesn't come with any headsets/earbuds.

I find this acceptable, as they're still giving us a pretty good value with 64GB storage. Then add the $100 rebate, and it rocks.

I'm far more concerned about the device itself. I'm trying to keep an open mind, but there will be hurdles for the One before I decide it's a keeper.

unbelievable how many people have defective lenses. in the german forum i also frequent there are loads of complaints about defective cameras. there has been some speculation that the vibration motor may cause the camera to default, but i dont know whether thats true.

HTC might be using 2 different manufacturers for the camera, and I believe 4 variations for the screen (Samsung and JDI). Lets just hope this isn't a parts lottery.

And it is this type of thing that gives me pause. In Canada, with buying a phone from a carrier, the return policy is 15 days since activation or less than 30 minutes of airtime, whichever comes first.

I use my cell phone extensively for business and whilst I have spare phones I really don't want to get into the whole mailing my phone back for repairs etc etc. I have an Apple store a 10 minute walk away and in the past have always had outstanding service, be it with a cosmetically perfect refurbished or a brand new phone (when they have been out of refurbished).

I can quite possibly see myself waiting for the iterative iphone 5S, not being overly excited about it, and going from there.

Carriers to give warranty in the canada ? here they give you 12 months and only water damage voids the warranty or some major drop.

You do have warranty coverage of course for 12 months here. It is the whole sending phones back that bothers me. It gets sent back, you wait and sometimes it comes back without the original problem being fixed.

UPDATE!!!!!

Ok so I just did a full factory reset and re-loaded my apps and setup the phone and then went out and took some more photos.

The blurring is gone ? !!!! Yep seem's I may have jumped the gun and it was a software issue ...

I'm going to carry out more testing tomorrow but from my testing now it does indeed appear to be corrected.

Very strange. But good if the reset has fixed it, but will continue to take more shots tomorrow to double check. Everyone can breath a sigh of relief :) :)

could you do some comparison daylight shots with the iphone, as that is the reference phone regarding picture quality in good light i guess?

hope one doesnt have to do a factory reset every other day to get rid of picture quality defects though ;)

Will do :) I'll post some tomorrow after I go walking on the beach.

It'll give me chance to test to make sure the camera has been fully sorted with the reset. There is meant to be another software update for the camera this month too. Its clear HTC haven't perfected their camera software / firmware just yet.

Hallelujah!

:) lol

Its amazing how a factory reset can sometimes solve issues. My N4 wouldn't connect to my router unless i changed the channel to something less than 12. Did a factory reset and hey presto...no more fuss.

cant seem to remember if this has been posted here yet, but lowering the sharpness by 2 helps mitigate some of the oversharpening issues then ones been having

I've had my HTC one X and LOVE it!!! So I was thrilled when I heard that the new aluminum One is going to be shipped (unlocked) on the 18th! Ill be looking forward to a UPS phone delivery for the first time, in a few years.

I havent been this excited about a phone delivery since my first iPhone through the iPhone 4. The 4S was a ho hum delivery and I passed on the iPhone 5 because I just wanted a WIDER phone. I also felt that Apple was milking the iPhone loyalist with the same design phone before going to a wider format which may or may not ever happen. But I wasn't going to continue buying new iphones when other companies are putting out the (wider) product which I am looking for.

Looks like my delivery date is on the 12th! So WooHoo! (but I dont expect it).

I cant wait!

Why would you want to lower the sharpness? Won't that make images even more soft?

What is edge processing/halos?

I'm reading over at XDA there are some unresponsive-ness issues with the capacitive buttons.

MRU, didn't you mention you felt the touch-points were a little small? Are you experiencing unresponsive-ness with the home and back buttons?

This video is really turning me off from Sense 5:

Watch it.

Again, I'm trying to keep an open mind until I use the device for myself, but some of HTC's decisions feel like they're there just to buck the trend. Like why is the App Drawer scrolling up/down instead of paginated from left to right? I get that they don't value home screens as much and want to treat the App Drawer as more than just an App Drawer (allowing you to add folders within the Drawer, etc.) which is dandy, but why did you have to make it scroll up/down? I am genuinely asking. Is there a reason for this other than just to be different from what Android is today?

Likewise, I'm really turned off that you can't customize wallpapers and the dock straight from the home screen; that you have to go into the Settings and Personalization menus or the App Drawer first. That's extremely unintuitive. Why make things harder to do, HTC? What are you, Apple?

And of course, I've already said this a bunch of times, the reconfiguration of the home button at the bottom for no reason other than to fit a logo is so bothersome. Just the principle of it is enough to turn me off. Every review has said it takes some degree of getting used to. And you can see it reflected in this video. Most reviews have also said the power button on top is a little difficult to reach one handed.

Looks can only carry you so far, HTC...

Argh. Trying to keep an open mind because I really want to like this obviously gorgeous device! But HTC ain't making it easy.

Its their own take and its not that far out considering stock Android previously had vertical scrolling too...up until Gingerbread. I actually prefer vertical scrolling to horizontal. One of the reasons i can't stand the current App Store.

As for setting wallpapers, probably a play for the average consumer not well versed in Android. Throw everything to do with customisation in settings.

Personally i think you should just buy the S4 and be done with it. Or not buy any phone at all cos boy you sound picky.

Couch, might be time to step away from the computer and take some time off from reading the forums/boards. I understand one wanting to do thorough research before deciding to spend some serious cash on a smartphone but you my friend, are bordering on obsessive. You clearly have very specific wants/needs in a smartphone and I don't think anything short of a hands-on experience is going to convince you which device is better for you. Get the One, give it a thorough run through for 2 weeks and if it doesn't meet your expectations, return it and give the GS4 a spin.

I just think reading every last post/comment/review isn't going to help you decide and will likely drive you a bit nuts. It took you actually test driving the iP5 to confirm it wasn't the device for you and I think you'd be best doing the same with these other 2 devices.

Just my observations and a friendly $0.02.
