However, is this not just a function of the One's Macro mode which is highly praised?

possibly yes.

I'd like to see some landscape shots from people, thats what I take most of and its in those shots the lack of pixels or softness became more apparent for me.

Quite frankly, in bright light, I don't think landscape shots with a 4 MP sensor are going to satisfy you. Most of the shots I take with a phone (as opposed to a camera) are indoors and in situations like that a non-faulty One camera will be fine by me. Simply put, the hoary adage, horses for courses.

, horses for courses.

I've seen that video... it was shocking...:p:D

But yeah I suspect you might be right. The best photos I took on the one were pictures of things close up. The zoe feature is awesome and the zoe mixes are excellent too. If they had stuck an 8mp camera in there - then this would quite possibly have been the best smartphone in years.

I restored from backup but it doesn't restore my Apps settings or my email accounts and contacts. Is this supposed to be normal? During restore there was no progress indicator either so wasn't sure if everything was restore.

Why would some one think I edit the photos? Here are more photos I took this afternoon.

Press on google and does it give you the option to choose Dropbox ? I assume you have signed into your Dropbox account in the accounts page?

No, it only gives me the option to sign into another Google account. I guess it not available on the AT&T version. What does Google back up? Is it as thorough as iPhone backups?

I'm gonna get the Tmobile version of the HTC One.

It'll now take even longer for me to get this camera software update. :T

Really pissed at HTC for not including Tmobile's LTE bands on the unlocked dev's edition. What the hell's the point of selling that in the USA if it's only meant for best use on one carrier anyway? Really annoyed. I'm basically sacrificing extra storage space, direct updates from HTC, and extra money to get LTE and HSPA+ with the Tmobile version.

----------

Wait a second, I'm thoroughly confused now.

HTC's website for the One says:

NETWORK

2G/2.5G - GSM/GPRS/EDGE:
850/900/1800/1900 MHz

3G - UMTS/ HSPA:
Europe/ Middle East/ Africa: 900/1900/2100 MHz with HSDPA up to 42 Mbps
Asia: 850/900/1900/2100 MHz with HSDPA up to 42 Mbps
Canada/ Latin America: 850/1900/2100 MHz up to HSDPA 42 Mbps
T-Mobile (US): 850/ AWS/1900/2100 MHz with HSDPA up to 42 Mbps
AT&T: 850/1900/2100 MHz with HSDPA up to 21 Mbps
Sprint: 1900/2100 MHz with HSDPA up to 14.4 Mbps

3G - CDMA:
800/1900 MHz for Sprint

4G - LTE:
Europe/ Middle East/ Africa: 800/1800/2600 MHz
Asia: 1800/2600 MHz
T-Mobile (US)/ AT&T/ Canada/ Latin America: 700 MHz and AWS band
Sprint: 1900 MHz

So it does and will get HSPA+ 42 MB/s and LTE? Or no?

And what's all this have to do with refarming? I thought refarming only meant Edge-only phones will now get 3G. Refarming deals with HSPA+ and LTE, too? Can someone thoroughly explain? I'm really lost.

Okay, after reading more, someone please tell me I got this right:

The Dev editions supports Tmobile's HSPA+ which is frequency 1900. It's just that Tmobile hasn't fully refarmed 1900 yet. But when they finish it, the dev edition One will feature HSPA+ 42 MB/s on 1900 MHz.

Correct? And is there a timetable for when this refarming of 1900 will be?

As for LTE, Tmobile's true 4G LTE will only operate on 1700 and 2100, correct? Which unfortunately the Dev edition One does not support. So it will never have true 4G LTE on Tmobile.

Correct?

You're over thinking it. The T-Mobile One will get LTE & HSPA+ 42. The reframing has to do with the 1900MHZ band which is was iphones that were unlocked were being used on. TMO is just extending that band and making the coverage broader.

Right, I know the Tmobile One will get LTE and HSPA+.

I'm speaking about the Dev Edition which I don't want to return but might have to cause it'll never get LTE, correct? It'll only get HSPA 21 MB/s?

Or will it get HSPA+ 42 MB/s too down the line? Is that what the refarming is doing?

Only thing being reframed is the 1900 band (which is mostly done). 2100mhz is not being built-out, or at least is not being discussed.

So I talked the wife into letting me pick up an One with my early upgrade last night.

So far so good! This phone is awesome! Blinkfeed is lovely, Sense's design language is wonderful and I'm haveing no issue adjusting to the home button placement (capacitive area seems plenty big - no issues with double taps) or with the lock placement.

And boy are those boomsound speakers legit! This is what I've been looking for in an Android phone. Beautifully designed with an elegant interface. HTC One is winner IMO!

I am looking forward to your thoughts as you get into it. I held a dummy in the store today and was very impressed.

I went into the store today and held and played with a S4, HTC One, and Note 2.

I have to say the One felt like the better built phone.

I left with a S4 but I only made that decision because of the removable SD card slot.

My wife really loved the HTC one, but she is going to wait around and play with my S4 first and see if she can get use to Android. She had an Android Samsung infuse 2 years ago for the bigger screen but the phone frustrated her so much she took it back.

She probably will end up getting the HTC One though because the speaker quality is probably going to push her over the edge over her need for additional storage and extra battery.

I have to say though, if HTC had made the phone like the one in china where you could remove the back, I probably would have bought that one today.

Went to the zoo today and tried the camera. I'm satisfied with it!

Yep, there was something wrong with my camera. Great photos.

Now I'm kicking myself I didn't just wait for my replacement HTC One to come back instead of being impulsive and ordering an S4 to tide me over in the interim.

I read that that was exactly what it was meant to do, restore 'all' your settings. What's the point otherwise? dissapointing,

Which option did you choose in the end? Dropbox or Google?

Did it take long to re download your apps and put your email accounts back in.

BTW, in the "Power" settings of the One, when it says "Sleep Mode - Automatically turn off data connection during long periods of inactivity"...

What exactly constitutes "long period of inactivity"? Does anyone know?
