2 things, can I setup phone only to upload when I am on wifi?
2nd I read online that ATT customers do not get the 50gb promotion, all the work arounds seem not to be working, do you know of one?

1. Yes--I only have them upload when on wifi.

2. Not sure, only know that when I set up Dropbox on my One (64GB Dev edition), I believe I got another 20GB to use--coupled with the 50 I got using my Note 2 and the 500MB I get everytime time I've reflashed a custom ROM/reset the phone and set up Dropbox again, I'm up to 76GB on my Dropbox account.

Antennagate Plagues HTC One (Video)
HTC’s conscious decision to focus on premium design for its HTC One flagship may come with an unintended consequenc: reception problem if the phone is held a certain way. Though we haven’t been able to confirm if the problem affects all global and U.S. releases of the HTC One, we have found–and are able to repeat–the problem on at least two Sprint Nextel HTC One units, one in the San Francisco Bay Area and another in the New York Metropolitan Area.

With an aluminum back, HTC decided to help boost reception by injecting plastic into its design components. On the silver model, you’ll find strips of white plastic running across the top and bottom of the phone, which isn’t too different from what Apple is doing on its aluminum-clad iPhone 5. Moreover, the white plastic continues on the sides of the phone as well.

It seems, then, that this may be related to the placement of cellular antennas on the white plastic joints. On the Sprint unit, I’ve found that when I grip the phone so that the back of the device is ensconced by my palm, signal strength noticeably drops. Sometimes, the drop is only marginal, with a few bars dropping off while other times, I go from near full reception to just 1 bar of service, showing a much more significant drop.

I’ve consulted with my colleague Josh Smith, who works out of the Midwest with an unlocked HTC One that has an AT&T Mobility SIM card, and Smith says that he didn’t experience any issues related to receptions when he tried to replicate the problem. Xavier Lanier who has the AT&T-branded HTC One says that he’s been able to repeat the issue, and antennagate only mildly affects the AT&T model whereas it is more pronounced on the Sprint model, as you can see in the video below.

My colleague Shawn Ingram, who has a similar HTC One on the East Coast was able to re-create the problem. Ingram has further isolated the issue to the lower left corner of the phone.

“It’s the bottom left corner, where the white bar meets the edge of the phone,” Ingram informs me after testing my hypothesis of a potential Antennagate crisis for the HTC One. “Just putting one finger there will take off a few bars.”

This isn’t the first problem related to reception for the HTC One, at least on Sprint Nextel’s network. Late last week, we had reported that in Sprint markets where 4G LTE towers are live but where Sprint has not announced an LTE launch, the HTC One was stuck connecting to Sprint’s older and slower 3G network and could not connect to LTE. Again, in San Francisco, I had both the Sprint Galaxy S4 from Samsung and the HTC One side by side and the Galaxy S4 was able to hop onto LTE without glitch while the HTC One chugged along on 3G; San Francisco has live LTE towers but Sprint hasn’t announced official LTE service here yet.

And HTC is no stranger to Antennagate either. Though Antennagate was coined originally to characterize Apple’s iPhone 4 reception issues, HTC’s unibody design phones also suffered those problems, including the HTC HD7 running Microsoft’s mobile OS and the HTC Sensation 4G for T-Mobile running Google’s Android OS. HTC had refuted reception issues behind the Sensation 4G despite videos on the Internet proving otherwise. More recent devices like the HTC One X was also reported to suffer from reception issues depending on how you held your phone. The One X is a surprise since that phone uses a unibody polycarbonate design, which is far friendlier to to cellular radio reception than the metal construction of the other mentioned HTC phones and the HTC One.

We’ve reached out to HTC for comment and an official statement, but as this issue was discovered over the weekend, HTC has not had time to respond. We’ll update this post once we hear news from HTC. We’re also continuing to investigate if other carrier variants of the HTC One suffer the same reception issues as our Sprint units.

In the interim, if you’re an early adopter of the HTC One, have you suffered any reception issues based on how you hold or grip your phone? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter and be sure to include which variant of the HTC One you have. In the U.S. the HTC One is available on AT&T Mobility, Sprint Nextel, and T-Mobile USA.

I am looking forward to your thoughts as you get into it. I held a dummy in the store today and was very impressed.

A couple days in and I'm still as enamored as ever with this phone....

The TV remote feature is great - have multiple profiles for different TVs in my house, those Boomsound speakers are still incredible and the screen is big and beautiful.

At first, I didn't notice much of a difference between the HTC One and iPhone 5 displays (quality-wise) - which I think says a lot about how awesome the iPhone 5 screen truly is, especially at a lower resolution. After comparing the two more, I'm starting to notice brighter colors on the One - whether that means the display simply has more contrast or the higher PPI truly makes a difference, I'm not quite sure. While the screen on the One is absolutely fantastic, I'm still not convinced there's a major improvement in the higher PPI.

I tested out the camera a bit yesterday, and it seems plenty nice in daylight. The Zoe features are great and the video it takes allows you to pick the best looking frame.

Battery life has also been adequate, while not incredibly superb. I have a moderate to low use case so I may not be the best person to test out the battery.

All-in-all, this is THE phone that's swaying me toward Android. Dare I say, this might be the best phone I've ever used. Sense is elegant, the One is beautifully designed and the thing is damn fast.

Question - what was the software build number for those camera enhancements again? I've got an AT&T One and I'm on 1.26xxxxxx

My pictures look better than I expected, but I wondered if I had the update or if I could expect even better pictures down the road.

Same here.

I'd argue I manage more than just fine. For example, I never have to use iTunes again to load and unload pics and music.

This is an outdated criticism....I've been completely Apple for years and its been years since I used iTunes to sync.....its all in the cloud.

Still no ability to drag and drop when connected to a computer for people that don't want to use the cloud.

HTC's customer lines are pretty craptacular. No one picks up even during their office hours. The wait is ridiculously long.

My final decision to return the unlock 32G for T-Mobile native version was based on HTC's own statement that it will not work they should know best it is their device why speculate that it may work or work half of the time .... you see my point who needs the additional headache.

Just so you know, the red warning has been removed from the 32GB unlocked version on HTC's website. I think they realized the warning was in error.

Thanks for the heads up little late for me but I'm glad you'll be all set damn HTC they sure dropped the ball.

You'll still have HSPA+ 42 MB/s.

The unlocked versions from HTC will never have that. Cause they're idiots for not including it.

Plus you get WiFi calling.

Finally got the chance to play with a one tonight.

Wow, just wow. The UI is ultra snappy. Reminded me of nexus 4 right away. Almost one hour of installing apps, running them, setting widgets, and still not even one stutter. AMAZING job by HTC. Amazing....

Sense 5 gets a 9.5/10 from me, with stock getting 10/10 of course. That's how good sense 5 is.

And the screen. Wow. It is like the best screen I have ever seen. And this is coming from an iPhone 5 daily user.

And I checked out the gs3 and note 2 again just for fun (no gs4 in stores yet). My gosh, now I remember why I went back to iPhone. That AMOLED looks terrible to my eyes. Sorry to amoled fans, but the htc one LCD destroys the amoled. I am sure the s4 amoled is a step up, but amoled is not going to beat LCD in whites, which is what I prefer.

I didn't get to test camera however.

I have a question for all you htc users: take a picture of a typed letter (or any document, anything that is not confidential to you :) ) and post it please. All I want to see is if the cam does its job in that scenario.

And if it does, I have probably found my next android phone :)

I have to say, I'm really impressed with the battery life that I'm getting. Today was a moderate use day. And I'm coming in at 24% going to bed. It's been off charger since around 830 am.

Doesn't seem to be any way to tell screen on time, though. Or is there?

Plenty of pics taken by htc One around here :) but i suggest to hold till you get time to play with the gs4, the camera is better (You can check here for pic taken with and compare yourself) plus the screen seems to be pretty damm awesome too.

Think i saw others showing actual screen time.

Nature shots are different from a shot taken of a typed document or a card. Lets just say it is sort of my "bench mark standard" for how well a camera functions for my needs.

Hence the request :)

And I am 100% sure the gs4 camera will deliver because it is a step up from gs3. I used a gs3 for 3 months. The camera on it was awesome too. So I have nothing to test on the gs4 except for the screen and "lag". The build quality isn't a concern for me either.

I just want to see if this 4mp cam is better suited or not.

I think the One camera will suit you just fine then, i got a nexus 4 also but still have got rid of my iphone :) my android experience is very good atm but damm the One and the gs4 are calling my name but i just cant justify the money to buy it :p not than can decide wich one anyway lol

Good luck in your choice.

I'm actually in love with the battery life of the one, I have been using it for about 5 hours now, obviously not full time usage though.

Been taking about 20 pictures/Zoe's, watched about ten different zoe highlights, watched a couple of ten minute YouTube videos, listened to about 40 minutes worth of music, spent about 30 minutes texting people, browsed the Internet for like an hour etc and the rest has been on stand by, and it's still at 80 percent. If I did that on my old galaxy it would have probably only been on 50 percent max.

Yeah HTC seem to have rectified past sins with battery on the ONE.

You need to install third party tool for screen on time.

I guess there is no real need to do so if its performing upto your expectations though :)

Yep I had similar experience on a heavy photo / Zoe usage day but I took upto 100 snaps. Even after lots of photos and uploading to HTC share and Zoe's - even at the end of my 14/15 hour day I still had 30+ % left.

Here is the back of an old Nokia battery I had in a drawer, I put a double a battery next to it for scale. The first picture is in normal mode, the second in text mode, and the third in macro mode.

My HTC One experiment ended today. Too many bugs and ittirating factors to keep continuing on. I'm gonna hang out with my iPhone and see if anything on the S4 intrigues me. Not a fan of plastic so I'll most likely hang with my iPhone through the summer.

Just outa curiousity, what bugs and irritating factors led to your decision?

Reason I ask is because I've always been an iPhone guy and prefer iOS - but the HTC One may be my favorite smartphone I've ever owned.....

Has HTC or any said anything about sales numbers thus far on the One?

You know it's kind of unfortunate for Samsung. Their sales would likely peak higher if not for the HTC One. And it's more than just public availability, the reviews are putting a lot of scrutiny on the GS4 for it's side by side comparison w/ the HTC One. So people on the fence could have been swayed.
