Has anyone noticed any backlighting problems with the One? By that, I mean and shadowy areas in the corners or along the edges. The HTC Droid DNA is plagued by this issue (unlike my previous iphone and current ipad, which had/have nice, even lighting to the edges) so if I wind up switching carriers and buying a One, I'd like to near some feedback on this first.

Battery life likewise is far better for my own personal usage on the HTC One, and likewise I do not want to ever become a slave to memory management (I know in theory you shouldn't need to, but theory and practice often are not the same thing) that the S4 was making me. Checking what Samsung services had started running in the background despite me not using them.....
.

For me, this is one of the biggest reasons why I prefer iOS to Android. I used to think it was fun to tweak Windows XP by disabling all the services I didn't need to get the best performance out of it. But now I just don't want to go through all that effort. iOS, for me, is great at setting up and forgetting. It manages itself well enough that I do not have to go tweaking it to get the best performance out of it.

Custom Roms and later versions of Android probably rival iOS this respect and even excel. But I'm not really feeling the need to jump ship just yet.

The HTC One is a seriously compelling product for me and even the S4 or Lumia 920. But upgrade time is still 6 months to a year away for me.

Well I had an upgrade that began yesterday and I wanted to give this phone a go. So far, it's pretty much met most expectations... however, the lack of 4.2 to utilize Google Play Music is a big let down for me coming from iOS. I thought that would be a really great option for me picking up an Android device with my decently sized music library, but upon uploading around 9,000 songs to the Google Music Manager I realized that it wouldn't work with my HTC One. This for me is pretty much a deal breaker. I'm not an Apple Fanboy, but when a "Brand New Phone" doesn't even have the latest software and no tentative date for release of that, it's going back to the Sprint store. I really picked up this phone on the hopes that I could get away from iOS for a bit and get my feet wet... I have achieved that so far and have really enjoyed the phone otherwise, but that was one feature I just can't get over not being able to use.

What about Play music didn't work for you? I too have all my stuff in iTunes and the music manager worked fine for me on my HTC One....I have a similarly sized library (roughly 8,000 songs)

But you have to plug it up to sync every time right? That's the thing I want to completely avoid. I don't want to ever have to sync up with my computer. I know I'm nit-picky... I just prefer a wireless sync from a cloud.

Nope - mine's setup so that I can still buy music from iTunes (on my iPhone 5, iPad mini or iMac) and it'll automatically sync up. Playlists do too.

How exactly do I set it up?

Start from scratch - make sure you have everything in your iTunes folder (and have iTunes set to auto-add into that folder whenever you buy from other devices). Then simply select that you want to import from iTunes and voila!

I had to redo it the other day to get my playlists - I think they've updated it in the last few months since I got my Nexus 4.

Let me know if you have any other questions. I'm not at home, so posting screenshots and such isn't possible. But its pretty straightforward if you have your iTunes folder in order.

No, Google Music works over the air. You install it on your Mac and it will sync with iTunes. Works very similar if not better than Match. All your songs and playlists, albums etc will be available on any device with Google Music on it to stream. Even better, you can choose which songs, playlist, album, etc you want to sync and play offline on your device.

That's the problem. The stream portion doesn't work because the HTC One doesn't have the latest version of Android... Something about it requires 2.2 and the HTC One only has 4.1.x.. I honestly don't know what I'm talking about, I just know that I uploaded the music, but it's now showing on my device

Where did you hear that from? I have a Galaxy Note 2 and an S3 running on 4.1.2 and use it daily.

Like I said, I don't know anything about Android... I'm not really stupid.... Even though it may seem that way, just trying to figure this device out. I have never used Android before.

Don't sweat it - I just started using Android in February myself. Did what I said to do work?

How are your iTunes folders set up? Do you let iTunes auto-manage the folder? (should be in the preferences settings in iTunes).

Go to iTunes > Preferences > Advanced

then look to see if the "Keep iTunes Media Organized" and "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library" boxes are checked.

After that, go into the Music Manager and start over. It'll ask you to choose where you import from - just select iTunes and it'll do its thing.

jrswizzle, I'm actually at work but I let iTunes manage my files. I already uploaded all of my music to the Google Play Music Manager, did that last night. Just trying to figure out how to get the music to stream from that...

For the first time in my life, I feel like an idiot... Android has my head running circles right now.

How did you set the music manager up? Did you choose the "import from iTunes" choice?

Excuse the rather simple question: you are signed into Google on the One correct?

So I think I finally decided that I want the HTC One over the S4.

I really prefer the option to have 64GB of internal memory. I also like that the HTC One won't have much lag compared to the S4. Blink Feed also seems like an awesome feature.

It was empty until I just went into settings, accounts, sync etc and turned sync on. now my music is showing up. Someone hit me, please. Thanks for your help.

Haha, no worries! I had trouble getting my playlists synced last week and someone helpful here showed me how.

That's what these forums are here for!

(Oh and the constant bickering and fighting ;))

Glad that we have these though. I was super bummed earlier, now I'm pretty excited it's working. Gonna try and brighten up and play with it a little more. Any other tips or advice things that you've found that you liked/didn't like? Apps, etc? I just have the bare minimum. Facebook, twitter, pandora, watch espn... etc.

Yeah there is definitely a curve with android :)

I actually missed blink feed when I was using the S4 :)

Both phones are cool though. You really can't go wrong with either. For once we have proper choice in flagship android world.

Do you think I will be able to tell the difference in size from the iPhone 4s to the HTC One? I know the HTC One is 4.7" and S4 is 5"
