While you will get 4.2 the time frame is still up in the air. Now it seems you are new to android, so things works a bit differently on android then ios. Because HTC does not run stock android they have to get the update from Google then make it work on their skinned version of android, and then it goes to the carrier to be approved. It is not until your carrier releases the update that you get it. That being said HTC might say they are going to release it in June, but it will still have to go to each carrier to be approved before you can download it. At&t seems to be one of the slower carriers to release android updates to phones, so if you are on At&t be prepared to wait.

At this point they would be better off just waiting for Google to have their I/O this month, and release Key Lime Pie. It will most likely never happen, but they will be a version behind after they release 4.2.

Given the AT&T One X was updated 4 months after release and the AT&T GS3 was 5 months after release, I think us AT&T users can expect a prompt update.

HTC is one of the better (actually the best overall at 4.8 months) as far as OEMs go in updating their phones - while AT&T ranks third as far as carriers go (6 months average time).

I thought I read or heard somewhere HTC promised 4.2.2 within a month or two of release? It seems their dev community is on the One a lot more than past models.

Do all manufacturers (HTC, Samsung, LG, etc.) have to go through this same process?

Yup - they all "skin" Android differently.

You only see this process get significantly faster (i.e. like Apple's updates) if you buy a Nexus device from Google. Google contracts out the hardware design, but doesn't allow said OEM to put their "skin" on the phone.

Hence a pure, vanilla Android experience with no OEM skin or carrier bloatware and almost immediate updates.

Thats one of the reasons I'm keeping my Nexus 4 around - it'll get 4.3 or 5.0 or whatever is coming first, so I'll be able to check out new features and such.

No one else is having issues with the lock button on their one? Mine isn't even raised from the top of the device. It's flesh with the phone and you have to push it in.. Seems kind of redundant to make a lock/wake button like that. I have the black HTC One.

HTC saying they would release 4.2.2 within a month or two of release would put it in June. I am just saying you are looking at best at July by the time At&t decides to release to the phone. By that time KLP will be out on the Nexus devices. I just wanted to let someone that is use to iOS getting updates when every other iPhone gets them. Will be very surprised at android and HTC. Also HTC never promised KLP, so that is not a given.

Actually just realized that the metal is completely bent where the lock button is. The metal is completely raised there. I sure hope the Sprint store has another Black one in stock...

That explains that :(

The most recent news are that KLP wont be out till september / october time.

The HTC ONE will get KLP. If KLP is out in September/October, I think we can realistically expect it Nov/Dec - Dec/Jan.

Given the HTC One X had ICS, then JB and is getting Sense 5 at some stage, I personally think its a certainty that the HTC One will get KLP. But we have to ask what will KLP actually bring to the table anyway ? With Sense 5 bringing a raft of enhancements to existing stock JB - just because it is behind googles latest version number, does not mean its behind in feature set.

I am not sure where you gots that KLP would be out in September or October. The I/O is this month, and last year JB was out in July for nexus devices. Now KLP being available for none nexus in September or October is more likely to happen. I would bet if the HTC one was to get KLP it will be in very late 2013 early 2014. The One did not even ship with the latest android, and there is no released date even announced.

Yeah I'm not very happy about it, but I'm going to run home and then run to Sprint and see what can be done. I was going to get a new case anyways, because the flip case isn't very user friendly for texting or typing for that matter.

The latest info is that Google I/O will reveal 4.3 not KLP

Ok please tell me what features did 4.2.2 on the S4 give me that I am missing on 4.1.2 ? Because I can't tell.

I think the importance of having the 'latest' version of Google's OS when you are on another manufacturers UI / OS version is far less significant.

Does anyone know if any service providers are offering free cloud storage with the HTC ONE? I would prefer 20GB and above.

I am trying to decide between the 32GB and 64GB

Sure 4.1 and 4.2 are both JB, but to say manufacturers UI/OS version are less significant is just not true. Look at the difference between 4.0 ICS and 4.1 JB. That is the same thing that will happen with KLP.

Crackling/Popping Noise

Mine is on day 9 now and I just now noticed this crackling/popping sound coming from the front speakers. I don't notice the sound unless I'm in a quiet environment. I especially noticed it when I'm navigating through the phone. I went ahead and googled it to see if anyone is having the same issue and I found this:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2248264

So maybe the fix could be a software update. I tried turning off my BOOM sound but I have not payed attention to the crackling/popping noise after turning off the BOOM sound since its loud here at my work.

EDIT: I turned off the BOOM sound and I can still hear the crackling/popping sound.

Try a factory reset. A lot of glitches can be corrected with a reset. Both my first HTC One and my S4 both had to have a reset because of glitches on the one and crashes/freezes on the S4.

Backup via google and HTC and do a reset and restore, I know its inconvenient but it might be worth trying.

No issue with boom sound here.

I've done that. Mine is actually rooted now running a custom ROM and I have been switching back and forth with stock and custom and its still the same.

Mmm strange.... Maybe you have a hardware fault. I see from links folks over on XDA think it could also likely be a software issue. Let us know how you get on anyway :)

At the bottom of this page ... HTC is offering 25gb free space on Dropbox for two years.

http://www.htc.com/us/smartphones/htc-one/

Yep, funny thing is because I have both phones I now have 75gb of storage :)

Is Google Now available? If so, I can't seem to access the cards I have on the S4.

There are alternatives to load apps instead of the Play Store. Try Amazon's app store, 1mobile.com, freewarelovers.com, and 4shared.com.
