RDJ is cool and all, but how about 4.2.2?

The promised "mid-June" is quickly becoming late June. Will late June become July? Will July become...?

HTC doesn't deserve a single benefit of the doubt in this department until they prove otherwise.

So HTC get Robert (a blended combination of Iron and cocaine man) Downey JR, Blackberry have Alicia (oops I've gone and lost my car) Keys and Samsung get Jay (looking like something from World War) Z......

And does it sell phones ? Does anyone really care ?

also LeBron James.

EXACTLY!!! At least just come out and say 'look we isolated an issue with the 4.2.2 update and are addressing it' but they are being silent other than 'it's coming' and we don't know if they are referring to 4.2.2 or was a quote by someone tugging at a private part Peter Chao....

I just want the menu button to be gone out of facebook because it annoys me.

----------

also LeBron James.

Who is he ?

(just googled, basketball player).... Well Jay Z is reportedly 12 million better off ? I mean does his face sell phones enough to justify 12 million ? Maybe i'm just too old at 35....

I am just curious (I don't own a one yet). What exactly are you missing on 4.1?

Not too much but there are some nice additions to Sense 5 (more so than just Android kernel changes in 4.2.2)

4.2.2 android wise gives us advanced notifications and power toggles (admittedly not too much of an issue currently if you have power toggles or settings extended)

Daydream from Jellybean.

But there are some really good improvements to sense such as easier ability to customise home screen and move around the screens/panels

HTC Zoe improvements including better compression for video and easier quick effects and themes.

The three button menu has been reconfigured to the long press of home button so older or un-optomised apps no longer display the annoying menu on the bottom of the screen.

improvements to dock bar and app drawer management.

Battery percentage meter option available

Battery life improvements / thermal management improvements.

So what does the remapping of the long press mean for Google Now?

The others have said it.

I'll just reiterate the two things I want the most:

-Get rid of the on screen menu button bar that's ridiculous and shouldn't have been there in the first place.

-Lockscreen widgets. I want to use DashClock widget again.

Those are welcome changes indeed.

Although If I owned a one, I would not be giving it up for say a s4 running 4.2.2 because that sexy LCD screen and smooth minimalists sense is still awesome.

I personally think that htc found they should incorporate lock screen widgets and are working on that making it longer to update. I would take a well made update over a rushed one though.

LeBron was huge in the Note 2 launch campaign.

Jay-Z used to own a part of a basketball team (Brooklyn Nets) and they got so much media coverage due to him. I guess it might help them?

You swipe up from the home button to launch Google Now.

Ahh cool. I'm looking forward to that and the lockscreen widgets (though I am a huge fan of Sense's stuff).

Really not in any hurry for 4.2.2. Battery life is unbelievable on my HTC One. Any camera improvements would be welcome.

I don't think anyone's trading in their One for the S4 just cause the S4 has 4.2.2.

We just want 4.2.2 also! :)

I suspect this and blink feed improvements too.

YEP :D I more want the sense improvements than the 4.2.2 specific ones ironically.

No lock screen widgets so far on the leaked 4.2.2 beta but hopefully extra time since that leaked means they will add them.

Personally I don't use them.

Ya - I like Sense's "widgets" on the lockscreen. I'm a fan of dashclock, but don't know if I'd keep it on my One.

Would be nice to check it out though.

It should have launched with the phone back in May. Now they just keep delaying it. No excuses for not launching it with 4.2.2.

Clearly it wasn't ready to ship with 4.2.2 and the chances are when they were working on the software for the phones launch - Android 4.2.2 didn't even exist.

At that stage they were likely on Android 4.2, and on nexus devices if you remember that was a bug ridden mess and took till 4.2.2 to sort out.

HTC also clearly don't have as big in house resources compared to Samsung.

Remember this phone was meant to launch at least 2 months before the S4 therefore it's software will be older. The only reason it didn't launch when intended was supply constraints due to HTC losing priority rating and poor manufacturing yields of the camera.

4.1.2 isn't bad by any means, but the improvements that 4.2.2 and the moreover the sense update add are going to be very welcome.

Fundamentally other than expanded notifications & toggles what does 4.2.2 on the S4 have over 4.1.2 on the HTC One ? (excluding Sense & Touchwiz specifics).

Ya - if it had launched with a 4.2 software, likely would've been 4.2.1 which was buggy as hell......

Glad they've waited. I don't feel like I'm missing anything on my One. Sense 5 does a great job at filling in some of the gaps.

LOL...I guess Lebron isn't the global icon we here in the US think he is just yet, huh? :D

To be fair, Jay Z has been earning a living a lot longer than Lebron. Lebron is just now hitting his prime, not to mention that Jay Z will be able to perform a lot longer than Lebron will be able to play.

Here we're led to believe Lebron is as recognizable as Michael Jordan (please tell me you know who THAT is :p), but apparently that's not the case yet.

-Lockscreen widgets. I want to use DashClock widget again.

I'm using Android Revolution HD (a 4.2.2-based ROM), and I'm sorry to say you won't get to use it on the lock screen. Well, you CAN, but you'll have to use it in conjunction with Widget Locker. The 4.2.2 HTC lock screen is exactly like the one that preceded it, unfortunately.

Of course I know who he is.... Didn't he have a hit with 'black & white' and 'thriller' ...... :p

Thing is all the 4.2.2 roms are based on the old leak and old kernel. It is 'possible' HTC could have made more changes to Sense and the os since that leaked over 4 or 5 weeks ago, but yeah - i wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't there.

lol, that's so true. He's still not as popular as Kobe or MJ worldwide.

i think it's worth nothing that Jay Z has a net worth of $500 million dollars

LBJ will get there...eventually :D

Well, I just think it's hilarious that something as fundamental as a battery %age meter is missing. I wouldn't mind one of those :D

It makes you wonder what Beyonce sees in a guy with a face only a deranged mother could love doesnt it.... :D

Settings extended ;-) But its not exactly a massive difference really is it, also it's not a Google thing. 4.2.2 Nexus 4 devices does'nt have it.

I think it shows that HTC has finally realized that they need to spend some money on marketing their products.

LMAO at the Thriller comment. Well-played, sir! :D

You make a very good point. I suppose they could put that option in there when the real 4.2.2 is released. How's 4.2.2 on the S4 lock screen (since I know you've had one)? Do you have the option of using widgets on it's lock screen?

lol, that's so true. He's still not as popular as Kobe or MJ worldwide.

$500 million...jeez. I can't fathom $1 million...let alone 500 times that. LOL.
