So funny to me how many people are calling it "douchebar" when it hasn't even been released or reviewed yet. Trying to make yourself feel better about your purchase, or what?

They really should have avoided showing those emojis during the presentation

Why are people so offended by emojis? A lot of people like and use them. That was a tiny portion of the presentation and a tiny use case for the TB. They do appeal to a lot of people.

The better question was why they decided to do a DJ demo on stage for the Touch Bar. They could've done something way better and more appealing music wise than that.

Because the "pro" thing is a sensitive subject right now and emojis are not really a sell point for those kind of people.

Yeah, I get that people are upset about the "Pro" issues. But it's at least possible that the TB will turn out to be way more useful than some people are letting on. I'm a pretty heavy Photoshop user, for example, and found that part of the demo to be compelling.

Also, I use 1Password all day long. They've announced that they'll enable accessing the 1Password vault with TouchID. Given that my master password is 18 characters long, that alone will save me an enormous amount of time.

So I finally got my MacBook Pro 2016 and I have mixed feelings so far.

I definitely like the way it looks and the screen is gorgeous. I don't mind that it doesn't have USB ports anymore. I purchased a USB type c to lightning so that'll do the job, I don't really use flash drives or SD Cards. I did purchase a USB C to USB 3.0 just in case.

The things I'm not a big fan of are the keyboard and the trackpad. I don't mind that the keyboard doesn't have much travel, but I do notice that the keys are way louder than previous MacBooks (or maybe its just me?). Also, the trackpad sounds kinda cheap when I click on it, I can't really describe the sound, but it just sounds cheap.
I think you should try it for a year. If you don't like it change during the next cycle. That gives you time to get adjusted.

"douchebar" was typo earlier in this thread and some of us thought it was funny. I don't think anyone is offended by the TB model or is dogging it in any way. It's pretty darn cool.

I'm gambling that the non-TB version has better battery life, which is important to me. I don't need super fast CPUs. I saved a couple $$$ as well and needed a computer sooner, and was not willing to wait for the TB. I may regret this. I may not. Time will tell.

So battery life, price, and all other factors considered, the non-touchbar MacBook Pro would be a wiser upgrade than the current 12" MacBook for someone who is coming from a mid 2012 MacBook Air, right?

I still have a spare 29W MacBook charger that will be my "travel" charger. It won't charge it as fast, but will be a good option for overnight top-offs. Far more portable! I'm guessing the 29W won't be able to charge while it's in use either, may slow down the drain but will still drain.
Have you done any testing with the 29w on charging time?

What got me interested is I have a 2013 MBA and it has the same battery size and a 45w charger and it charge pretty dang fast, maybe a little over an hour to go from 5% to 95%. So I'm curious about the new MBP having a 61w charger. My guess is a lot of that wattage is so it can power pass through hubs and peripherals, etc... But for basic charging, I'm wondering how well a 29w would really do.

Thinking of buying an extra one and putting it in my murse, gotta be smaller than lighter than the 61w.

Depends..

if you can get a killer rMB deal, and value portability above all else, its not a bad option

or if you don't need heavy lifting,

the new rMBP is nice with P3 screen, battery life, improved speakers, and TB3, but it depends

Not really, no. But thanks for trying to start something. If the 15" had come without the touchbar I would have gotten that one. I personally think it's a gimmick and it will either mature to the point that I want it (and I'll buy it) or it will fade away like it did with the thinkpads.

It has nothing to do about justifying my purchase. It has to do with the only use cases that they showed for the touchbar were douchey.

It's a solution in search of a problem. It doesn't solve anything and adds complexity to your daily use.

I get the same thing too. I've never noticed it on any of my other MacBooks (2012 13" cMBP, 2015 15" rMBP)

What do you mean by "over the surface?" Like not even touching it?

While using it, lid open. The same occurs when it is closed and connected to power.
While touching the metal parts of the MacBook you will feel a buzzing feeling.

Correct, at least in the UK. I can't speak for other territories.
