Got my 20" Today

Luckily FedEx home delivers on Saturday and I got my computer at about 3:30pm. Only took about an hour to get everything off my old powerbook (booted as firewire drive). I got the 20" iMac with BT keyboard and mouse. I'm selling the mouse (I bought a two button somewhere else). It is sooooo sweet, and gigantic. :D

My 20" arrived today as well. Took less than an hour to get stuff off my G3 iBook. Setup was very very easy. I put the 2 GB of Crucial RAM in before the first bootup and it's been working perfectly -- very quietly too. My iBook is feeling very, very neglected right now. :)

Ordered a 17" 2GHz last week, current status is still "Sent to manufacturing." (Upgraded to a 250GB HD and BT keyboard + mouse.) I'll be going to this machine from my TiBook 550MHz, so it'll be just a slight jump in power for me. *heh* Can't wait for it to get here.

I really to stay with a laptop, but the price and power of the iMac was just too good to not go with. Once we have G5 laptops that are decent, I'll probably go back to haivng a laptop as my main machine.

I'm considering selling the mouse. This is my first Mac and it's very weird to only have the one button with no scroll wheel.

Etrain, give the one button mouse a couple of weeks to sink in before you sell it. Try using the arrow keys to scroll pages, and the apple key/mouseclick combo to right click - i personally prefer this and find that I don't get sore wrists like I used to with my PC.

By the way, welcome to Apple. If you have any problems or annoyances post it on Macrumors and we'll all help.

If you don't like the one-button mouse, then why don't you try "The Mouse"(@$30US), or "The BT Mouse" (@$65US) from DVForge (http://www.dvforge.com)?

I think they're available from most leading online computer retailers - it's a mouse with 2 buttons and a scrollwheel, and looks like it chould have been designed by Apple...

Personally, I haven't tried it - and I'm of the Old Mac School, where I've ALWAYS had 1 button. In fact, Apple's old advertising campaign during the 80's was that it HAD a one button mouse, because it was incredibly difficult to press the wrong button!

:)

Happy iMac-ing!

Yeah, I have selected the correct one. I've even tried both and entered all the numbers I can see on my order status via Apple but to no avail.

Damn!
Same thing for me cant get tnt (uk or nl) to recognise any numbers :(

I am slightly concerned because my imac apparently shipped 3 days ago yet has not been signed for or arrived anywhere yet. See link for details:

http://www.fishcalmer.com/apple/shipment_details.gif

The tracking numbers mentioned may work, i wouldn't know because KUEHNE & NAGEL don't have a tracking page that can accessed on any Mac browser....fantastic...thanks a bunch

I can only assume it hasn't got as far as tnt yet....maybe because i took advantage of the free shipping option its coming by paddle steamer :(

Yep, exactly the same for me. Seems that me and you are in the same boat mate.

It's so infuriating isn't it?!

My order status also says the same and I can't use the TNT tracking either.

Crazy shipping...

Is it just me, or do the rules of economics seem crazy? The majority of people owning Macs live in the States (or so it would seem from this thread and forum). Yet I note from anxious posts in this thread that hundreds of personalised, upgraded iMacs must be individually shipped all the way from China! Another post refers to a $230 charge for this... obviously it would cost Apple more than $230 per computer to build them in the place of origin - California.

I see the economic sense in production in Asia. But surely Apple can ship them by the thousand over to the States (and Europe) and do any upgrading there? Does this happen? That way the end-user should get their product sooner. The eMac I ordered appears to come from Prague - at least that's the first shipping point of call.

Maybe I'm just in awe that you can order a computer at your desk, it's assembled on the other side of the world, and you can watch it on its way to your doorstep!

I think I may give Apple a call tomorrow and enquire about it all. Not being able to track the order is a real pain. Especially when the Apple Order Status page isn't updated very often.

I have the same details as you guy's - - I spoke to Apple and TNT yesterday - the shipment isn't in TNT's hands yet - should be in the next couple of days. Kuene & Nagal have it for now - apple told me yesterday that as it was shipped on the 10th - I should get it on the 20th - gutted. But at least I know that it will be here on friday.

Cheers, Jon. Saved me a couple of calls ;)

Don't suppose they told you where they actually are now, did they? It seems from your post that the handover isn't for a couple of days, then it follows that they are still in a holding warehouse waiting in Shanghai...

I'll give them a call in a couple of days and post the feedback. Hopefully the apple status page will be updated by then anyway.

Hi,

Have same problem myself re:TNT tracking.
If you go to http://www.apecode.com/appletrack you can track using your 10 digit TNT tracking number beginning 80********.

Doesn't really give you a huge amount of extra info - but it's still nice to know.

Thanks for the link, it gave a bit extra info anyway.
