"Lantau Island is the largest outlaying island in Hong Kong, almost twice the size of Hong Kong Island. More than half of it has been designated as Country Park area. Its tranquil and green environment makes it a popular spot for nature's lovers and hikers...and hundreds of iPads can be seen awaiting shipment to their new homes around the world."

My IPad happily bypassed it going straight from Shenzhen China to Anchorage, Alaska and is now sitting in Baltimore waiting to be delivered on Monday. On the other hand, my case has been sitting there in Lantau Island now for a day and a half.

My shipping was China>Anchorage>Memphis and should be here Tuesday.
My case has been sitting in Illinois for 4-5 days now and should be here Tuesday also...good timing.

there are 2 or 3 threads that people who bought through the educational store complained here.
You should call apple if it still says the 7th. They wont tell you anything useful but you will most likely get a new date

Yeah, I called them today. They said that they could not change anything related to an educational order and transferred me to the educational division where I was greeted by a very friendly recording informing me of their normal working hours.

I checked the order status site later in the day and it changed from

Not yet shipped
Ships: May 24th
Delivers: May 27th

to

Prepared for shipment
Ships: May 24th
Delivers: May 27th

I am confused, but I am feeling like there is some progress being made. Of course, I can't presume to understand how magical revolutionary devices get from place to place.

It's been sitting there all day. I wonder if FedEx in China works on Sunday's?

I would like to know that too. One thing I was also wondering about was why they sent it out so late at night/early in the morning, until I realized that it was picked up by FedEx at 6pm at the local China time. So perhaps the reason we aren't seeing too many status updates (yet) is that it's night in China. Or maybe it's just Sunday like you said. Who knows.

Nah. Screw that. I did that for the first three iPhones. Never again. One, the closest Apple store is 2 hours away east or west, and to the north its four hours. Second, waiting in line knowing that inventory will run out and you could be with out, screw that. Some people lie to their employers and tell them their sick and all these excuses to do that crap.

It is not worth it. I will wait for it to come through UPS or FedEx before I go stand in a line for hours or even days. There is nothing wrong with wanting something but you have to ask yourself how "sane" some of these people really are.

I told my employees if I ever find out they called in sick and lied to me to go stand in line for a damn phone, a game system, or anything else that I would fire them. Do that crap on your own time.

I will say that I think it is kind of crappy that they create so much hype around their products that it creates more demand than supply can meet and then you find yourself waiting for so long for something. And a lot of the people are only buying them to turn around and sell overseas anyway and that is creating a shortage also, like that one guy that bought like eight or nine of them and was told he could never buy an iPad from the Apple store again and he was all upset, claiming that he was merely purchasing them for his friends overseas but the cost he was paying was inflated so much that it was obvious what he was really doing.

I just hope that the bulk of us that are in prepared to ship gets shipped this afternoon, its like afternoon in China right now. (tonight here)

Well, thankfully for me none of those applied to me:

1) I have two Apple stores within 5 miles of each other (Stanford mall & University). University is literally walking distance from both my work and home.

2) I waited MAYBE 35 minutes and the Apple team was good enough to go through the line, ask what model the person wanted and told them they still had supply. No risk of standing in line for nothing.

3) Launch at 5pm, I told my employees to come in and if they were worried they got use PTO and get off early.

4) One of my employees said they went launch day of the wifi model, didn't stand in line and still got one. I figured it wouldn't be crazy for 3G and it wasn't.

I've noticed some people who placed their order on May 2 have had their status changed to prepared for shipment, and some have not had any changes yet. I'm in the group with no change.

Just curious who out there with an order date of May 2 have had a change in their status, and who has not. TIA.

ordered may 1st and still no change, 64gb

because the tracking says that mine is still in hong kong and u said that they dont ship on sundays. so if it flys out tommorow it might not make it all the way to louisiana in that time

First, remember that China is ahead of us. It will be Monday there before it is here. Secondly, I am in Louisiana. I think it will make it to us on time.

Is yours on the FedEx plane or UPS plane? The FedEx planes seem to either go from HK to Alaska or HK to Memphis. I cannot see them putting packages destined for Louisiana on a plane for Alaska, but they can make the trip in a day, and unload packages, and depart the destination and be headed for the next in one day.

I wouldn't be surprised if it went to Alaska. There is a major FedEx hub there. Going from China, going to Memphis would be overshooting it when they can simply route it differently along with everything else. I think they use the Memphis hub to distribute to the entire east coast. There is another one in Indy that I think it will more than likely go though.
