Ordered 64 GB 3G on April 20th.

Status changed today to "prepared for shipment"/"Ships by May 7th"

Apple case and VGA adapter shipped out today and will be here May 7th.

iPad camera connection kit "ships by May 11th"/"Delivered on May 14th"

Today (5/4) shows prepared for shipment. :) Order was placed late on 4/30.
Ships by 5/7.

what model was it? I ordered mine the morning of 5/1, 64gb, it changed to 5-7 business days the night of 4/30 but hopefully it won't affect my order because 5 days is friday 5/7

Is the Prepared for Shipment possibly due to Free Shipping, i.e., orders with upgraded shipping are expeditied?

no, I'm pretty sure apple does that for all orders, and at least when I ordered there was no option to upgrade shipping it was just free standard

Just got shipping notice. Ordered April 22nd, & scheduled for delivery by May 10th. I was hoping to try it this weekend, but likely not.

Same as yours, 64 / 3G.
When I ordered, the site was saying 'ship by May 7', but I noticed that not much later, Apple was displaying 5-7 busi days.
I feel i got the 'guarantee' ship date; but, 5/7 is 5 business days from 4/30.

for the people who already got theirs via fedex. how long does its stay "clearance in progress" ?

About a day...at least that's how it was for my iPad case that I ordered. My iPad currently has the "clearance in progress" status as well. I imagine when I wake up in the morning, it'll be changed

for those of you have ordered for the 5/7 date but have already received theirs, how long did it stay in prepared for shipment and how long did it take to get to you?

i am not mad,, just a better educated consumer.. dont assume apple cares after your CC has been cleared..

Chris, it is good you can keep a positive perspective on this.

I, like you, am a first time Apple customer and my iPad is sitting right next to yours in HK.

Before you RMA return your iPad, I'll offer the following to consider:
  • Your Apple support call is on par with industry; I've experienced the same with Dell, Lenovo, Best Buy, etc. A good support call occurs 50% of the time at best.
  • The issue we both have really is with UPS, not Apple. All the First Class (i.e., paying for shipping) customers didn't get bumped off the plane like us Coach (i.e., free shipping) customers. As the saying goes, "you get what you pay for."
  • A friend once shared with me, "anything worth anything is worth waiting for." As my iPad sits in HK for who knows how long, I have to repeat this to myself many times!
I'm seriously hoping it will all be worth the wait; I'm pretty sure it will be!

iPad 16GB WiFi + 3G
Ordered on 22nd April 2010 (W6977XXXX), Prepared for Shipment on 2nd May 2010 still not yet shipped :(

I ordered online on Sunday May 2nd. (16GB-3G) - Ships by May 7th. Hasn't gone to prepared shipment yet. I have the same model on reserve at a couple of Apple Stores (every store in the state is sold out of all 3G models!) So if my reserve comes in first I'll hopefully still be able to cancel the online order.

What's up with this? When I ordered mine the ONLY shipping option WAS the free one. I actually called to inquire since I wanted the fastest shipping possible and would have paid for it. The rep told me the option was not given because ALL iPad orders are being upgraded for shipping, so no one is paying for it.

FINALLY! Ordered the 16GB 3G on the 20th and it's here after initially having a delivery date of 3 May.
Not bad, 2 hours after the UPS site noted the package as out for delivery.

I beg to differ on all of your points, and i actually find your bullet item 2 very insulting.

Let me point out there has been and is no "Expedited shipping" on the ipad at this point in time, all orders are sent express. which is 1 to 2 days max from Asia, And UPS states that Express shipping is 1 to 2 days from asia. And this also proves the point that apple sales support tried to use smoke and mirrors with me because they dont care.
So please don't insinuate this is my fault, if there was a faster shipping method available i would have paid for it. So please look into the facts on what you are going to say before you insult someone and blame them for their own problems when you have no clue.

Item 1: On the support thing , i have rarely needed it from places like Dell, but the one or 2 times i did, it was not as bitter tasting as this crap apple is dishing me. And well no one with any intelligence would expect Best buy to have a clue.

Item 3: i have a rule on toys. I wont buy anything over 100 bucks that cant be supported or last 6 months. And i wont spend 600 bucks on a paper weight. IF apple wont support the sale as they have proven to me, there is the most likely fact they sure wont support the product after i receive it. And that leads me to say "nothing is worth waiting for when it will most likely end up as a paperweight or boat anchor because the vendor/manufacturer wont support it

Really? I ordered the same day (64 gb 3G) and it stated ships in 5-7 business days. I was under the assumption that the ships by May 7 was changed sometime on April 30.

Either way, my status has not changed and still states ships within 5-7 business days with an expected delivery date of May 11 - May 15.

I beg to differ on all of your points, and i actually find your bullet item 2 very insulting.

There was no intention to insult and I stand corrected on the lack of an option to expedite shipping by you and another.

However, my experience with Dell support over the past 10 years (and I have purchased volumes of units from them) has been hot & cold, mostly much worse than yours with Apple.

My Lenovo purchase a year ago was also OFF-LOADED in Shanghai, CN exactly as our Apples, and I did pay for premium shipping on that purchase. Hence, my statement that UPS is my target for my discontent, not Apple.

I have filed a complaint with UPS on our behalf. I'll let you know their response.

I ordered my iPad 3G 16gb early Monday morning.I used my bank of America debit card. Apple has already placed a hold on the funds. But Bank of America said that the funds can only be held for by the merchant for 3 days after that the hold funds hold is automatically dropped.

If that's the case should my iPad shipping status change from "not yet shipped" to " preparing for shipment"? I only ask this because at that time I assume Apple actually charges the for payment and/or they get paid.

Ordered my 64GB wifi iPad on April 27 and was told to expect delivery between May 5-11.

Got the Prepared for Shipment early yesterday and since then, have got the following tracking info:

My friend in Cupertino is receiving it for me and then shipping it over to Asia where I am located. So even though I'm happy I should be receiving my iPad on May 5 (Oakland is close to Cupertino), I still won't get to see my iPad until maybe early next week.

Don't ask how much shipping I am paying for all this trouble. Bad enough Mrs. gave me the look - don't want the world to do the same

I don't know about them changing you status to prepared for shipment. I think in the past they have released the funds from my account and then charged it outright sometime later.

Seems a strange way to run things, but maybe they just want to make sure funds are available before they start the process. Then worst case scenario is that they don't ship the item if funds are not there at time of shipment.

This is all speculation on my part. I actually have no idea how it works.

So i needed another laugh, i called Apple again knowing i wouldn't get anywhere ,, i got through to one person who said please hold i will transfer you to someone who can get this resolved. (ya right in my dreams)

So i explained again, and said please tell me what is happening... this nice lady says " It appears that it is your fault for calling UPS, and they stopped the package in process to locate it" and i should have called apple first and i said i did and you refused to help me. And the usual sorry cant you.
okay UPS stopped the package i inquired about to locate it?

Wow,, they must say gee this guy is from new hampshire transfer him to the "Brooklyn Bridge for sale dept"

So for todays lesson in futility:
Trying to get an inteligent answer from Apple is like trying to have a debate with an amoeba

So they are saying that because you called to ask about your package, something people do everyday, that a UPS pep went on to the airplane which just happened to be still sitting on a Tarmac in HK, found your package out of all the other packages on the plane, took it off the plane, just to give you a status update on it's location?

Did they really expect you to believe that???
