so after writing an email to speck last week, i received my case directly from them on friday. the case is the revised revised version and it's incredible. oval cutout but with the same material as the original. i can also confirm that the buttons are very easy to press.

i'm extremely shocked at how the company sent me out this case in a matter of days even though i never had received the one from apple yet. my intentions for writing them was not to received anything at all, yet it was simply to voice my dissatisfaction about how i felt a bit deceived about the whole process.

anyway, the case is great, and the customer service i received is one of the best i've ever experienced. just to let all of you know, speck is the real deal and i'm sure the initial revised version was at no way their fault. they are clearly trying to right this wrong.

I sent them an email as well, and all I had to do was copy them my confirmation from Apple where I ordered the PixelSkin via the free case program. I already have my crappy version of the PixelSkin, but they didn't ask for any pictures of it or proof that I had it.
 
I had to send them my info and pictures, and I haven't heard anything back. I actually sent them a follow-up email yesterday asking for status, and have heard nothing. Needless to say, I'm starting to get a bit disappointed again.

What was the email used? You guys just contact them from the Contact Us Screen on speck website?
 
i received three Pixelskin HD cases from the Apple case program a few days ago. Out of the three cases only one case has the hard case issues. It is very annoying and hopefully they'll send me a replacement.

I just rec'd my PixelSkin HD and very disappointed to discovered I was sent a "hard button" version. To say the buttons are hard to push is an understatement. My iPhone buttons can't be activated no matter how hard I press.

I emailed Speck and am waiting for response. Quite ironic to get a defective case given out to mask a defective phone. (OK, I know the iPhone isn't defective, and love mine, but we all know the circumstances).

No out of the three cases, one of them uses the harder material that makes it difficult to press the buttons. I emailed them about a replacement for that one case.
 
I just got a message back from Speck insisting they have sent no new cases to anyone, and that mine will be sent in about a week.

i never had to give any proof at all. maybe it was because of the fact that i never even asked for something in the 1st place. i simply stated that i was unhappy that i couldn't change my choice of case and felt that i was deceived by all the reviews saying how high quality the case was, when in fact, the revision done by speck made the case quite undesirable.

i was then asked for my address and was shipped a revised revised version of this case in a matter of days (and i live in canada!). it was very quick.

one thing i'll mention is that the case sent to me came in a ziplock bag. it was not in its original wrapping. so maybe it was one that was just lying around the office and they just sent it out to me.
 
Maybe they just sent you one, and after that the reps were told to tell everyone else to wait until more come in to their office.

Question for those that emailed Speck -- how long did it take for them to respond back? Just curious.

If they don't ask for the defective case back I'm thinking of drilling or dremeling the volume covers. That should give better access to the volume controls (totally don't work as-is). That should be a short-term fix until they can send a replacement.

normally pretty quick.

but i emailed them on tuesday letting them know how happy i was upon receiving my free case from them and i haven't heard back yet. maybe they're on vacation? lol

Looks like I got the bad revised version. Guess I'll contact Speck to see if they'll send me a new one too.

Why are they keep on sending their customers the "bad revised" ones?

This is from Apple. I'm sure they don't necessarily know that these are bad.

Good question about why they keep sending them out. Apple may not know they are bad but Speck does. Easy for them to send a note to Apple to destroy them and that replacements will be on the way.
 
Got my iPhone today :)

Very nice! I haven't had much time with it though as most of it was spent installing firmware/syncing all of my apps from my iPod. My case should arrive tomorrow (not from the case program) and until then it's staying at home :p

I haven't heard anyone mentioning the Griffin Perforated Silicone cases? Is it a UK only thing? If anyone knows, how is it? I'll probably just end up getting the Speck HD and hope it's the newer and better version.
 
In terms of appearance, I think the new version looks better. I like the edge around the back and the recessed area around the buttons. Anybody else? Hehe, maybe I'll email Speck and ask for one with the edge on the back, an oval flash cutout, and the softer buttons but with the recess. I bet their CS peeps are about to go postal over all of this.
 
I got mine today, it too is one of the defective ones, I emailed Speck, will let you guys know what they say.
 
It's so strange that some of the oval camera revised versions are just like the original case while some are so inferior. This is the one I received last week.
