Before you dremel anything, have you tried the "cutting slits" mod that I mentioned near the beginning of this thread? It makes the buttons usable without having to cut them totally out of the case.

Found it on this page. Thanks for mentioning -- will give it a shot before attempting deeper surgery.

Just wanted to ask what was the typical response time by Speck from the initial complaint email for you guys?..
I assumed they'd get back to me today but they haven't (don't know if I'm just being ridiculously impatient).
The real reason I ask is because I've been having problems with some emails not coming through to my Gmail account so I wonder if they have replied and my account hasn't accepted the email.

They got back to me today and I emailed them yesterday - pretty damn good.

Got my free case yesterday. Its the new one with the darker material, the boarder around the back and the indentations around the buttons - which are in my case easy enough to press that I would have no issue using this case. I do however prefer my Incase Slider.

Can someone confirm the whole product # on the case? Are they all the same for the old models or what?

The # in the inside of my case is: LAPHD22(1). This is the # they requested I email them a pic of, so guessing it's the revision product#, but I don't know what # is stamped on the original cases, so could be nothing too.

K cool so that 1 in a circle must mean its the bad revision one.. hmm..

Just got mine today from Apple. I went to some local kiosks in the malls and they had brand new shipments of Geometrics and PS HDs in about 10 days ago. I tried both on my phone and hated them. They were as most were reporting on here. Power button was impossible and the volume buttons were bad as well. The thing I hated most was that the cases bubbled my screen protector.

I came home at that point and tried to switch cases with Apple. No deal. It was too late. I thought I was going to be out of luck. Fast forward to today. I got this case and it is definitely the revised version. Oval cut out for the camera, black ring around the outside of the back. The material is really soft though. It is more of a matte finish than I remember the ones at the mall being. The buttons are super easy to press and the case does not mess with my Power Support HD. I really like this case. I think Speck has things fixed now. It was just a bad batch. If you got one of those, they should make it good.

I did a little surgery on my case today to try and get the volume buttons to work. As-is they did not work regardless of amt. of pressure I put on them. My solution was to cut out the raised volume buttons. It ended up that I only needed to cut out one of the buttons (I did the bottom). That relieved enough pressure that both buttons easily depresses. It's kinda goofy looking w/ one raised button and the other missing but does the trick until replacement arrives.

Another update here. I just went to the mall again and compared my new PS HD to the PS HDs and Geometrics they had. These are significantly different cases. So much so the kiosk (Celluaire) is returning all of their stock and asking Speck to replace. I did not take pictures but my new case is not as shiny as the older ones. The sides are much more of a matte finish. Also the flexibility of my case is much higher. This new case is so much softer. We tried all of their cases (4-5) and my case on their own personal phones and they were surprised at the difference. They had one Geometric that when was installed on the phone would just power down because the power button stayed pressed down. The only negative about the new case is it is so soft, the lip along the bottom is a little too loose for my tastes. I could see it being an issue if it snagged on something.

I will be very interested to see if Rick will get another case and update his comparison video. I think the OP can change his title back. I was dead set against Speck and thought I hated these cases. I can now say this is my favorite case after only a day of use. It adds minimal bulk, good protection, great looks and feels great in the hand. Add to that all the buttons perform perfectly and it doesn't screw with screen protectors. I also own an Otterbox Commuter, Incipio NGP Matte, Case-Mate Tough, Apple Bumper and have a few Default Cases on the way.

Got my case today from Apple, the revised version. Seems like a bunch of hoopla to me, i'm a very detail oriented and anal person about cases and my phone in general and I find this case to be more than acceptable. The volume and sleep/wake buttons are very reasonable, not much force is needed to press any of them, and the case fits nice and snug. It's a nice change of pace from the black Apple Bumper. I will probably call them up and ask for them to send me the original Pixelskin for comparison, but I can't imagine the changes are that drastic. The buttons are only MARGINALLY harder to press than the bumper, in my experience.

UK advice

Has anyone received their case in the UK yet? If so did they receive the new or old version?

Also does anyone know if we receive the crap old one from Apple in the UK, is there a Speck UK office if we needed to change it or would we have to send back to the US?

Yea I received mine not too long ago, and it was the crappy V2 case.

I just emailed customer support on the Speck site, and they said they should be sending a replacement in 1 - 3 weeks.

Speck have said they will replace case. BUT I would not rename the thread yet as there is 3 versions of this case out there now and Apple and retailers are still supplying bad ones. The only way to ensure a good one is direct from Speck. So no, I would not change the title back to it's original, not until we know for sure that everyone will get a good one wherever them buy it.

I have the LAPHD22(1) version i got on Sep 3rd, and the Volume and Power/Lock buttons are too hard to press for me. It's also extremely HARD to get the thing on and off the phone. Took me 5-6 minutes to get it off, and about 2 minutes to put it on. I only tried this once just to practice BEFORE i put it in with a Power Support Screen Protector, but i'm thinking this case just ain't gonna work with a screen protector.

How do I contact them? it appears there Contact Page on the website ( http://www.speckproducts.com/contacts ) takes me to: http://www.speckproducts.com/helpdeskultimate/customer/revalidate/
after i submit it... is this supposed to happen? I tried it about 5 times already so dunno if they got it 5 times or not lol.

Or maybe anyone knows the email address to contact directly?
