I had the Wrapsol Ultra (just the back) on mine, & had to take it off in order to make the PixelSkin HD fit. I didn't mind. I'm not a huge fan of screen protectors in the first place, though. :p

I LOVE the case. I used it the most up until my Grove case came in.

Do you have the "old" one or "new" one? Does yours have the keyhole shaped cutout for the camera, or is it a symmetrical oval? This new piece of junk won't go on over my SGP matte back and Crystal screen shield, whereas my original would with no problems. It's much softer than the new one they are shipping out.

I have the new one.

Just got my new pixel skin hd's today! There darker, the back looks nicer, fits better and like the revised camera hole.

My power support was bubbling on the corners but pushed out the air with a credit card while it was in the case, worked perfect.

I ordered mine through Amazon late last week and just got it tonight. I was nervous at work earlier today when the rumor came out there was a revised Pixelskin HD... I wasn't sure which one I was going to get.

Turns out I received the "keyhole" camera cutout version. The OP is right; this case is a winner. I have taken case-on/case-off flash pics in the dark and I don't notice any difference on my 23" Cinema Display. Quality is very good, and that TPU stuff I have a lot of confidence in.

Thanks for the recommendations.

To OP, or anyone who has the speck pixelskin hd, is it just me or is it somewhat of a challenge to push the lock/power button? Maybe I didn't line it up right though idk. What everyone else's experience with this?

Other than that though, I LOVE this case. It exceeded my expectations. I just got it in the mail today.

Edit-- Just read a page back looks like I'm not alone with this problem. No biggy though, hopefully with a little work it'll loosen up.

Let me read the thread a little for you... :p Yup lots of people are mentioning power button issues.

For any of you guys that are having power button issues with the new version of the Pixelskin HD, if you are jailbroken you can use activator to set up a different gesture to put your phone to sleep. I have mine set so that a double-tap of the status bar puts my phone to sleep. Now I'm not suggesting that people jailbreak just so they don't have to use the sleep/wake button, but this is a good alternative for people who are already jailbroken. I don't have to use the sleep/wake button for anything other than taking screenshots (which I can map to a different gesture if I want to anyway), resets (can also do this with sbsettings), and entering dfu mode.

If the case is great other than the sleep/wake button being hard to press, this might make it a little more tolerable for some of you.

Personally I find it absurd that the power button doesn't work as it should with this revised version.

I wonder if contacting speck would allow you to swap it for an older gen one?

My geometric buttons work great. And I'm now using an Incipio SGP matte smoke which is also awesome (got after reading the apple program pixelskin hd's are lackluster). we'll see though when mine arrives.

Other than the camera cut out and power button problem, what else is different with the revived version?

Got more dispatch notification email today. Frankly i will feel a bit conned if its not as good as the original. Pretty naughty of Speck if its been mass produced on the cheap, very dishonest IMO.

Wont be buying any more Speck products if this is an inferior version, cant stand companies like this.

Economies of scale. I seriously doubt Speck is doing this just for free cases, probably across the board for PixelSkin HD even purchased on their site.

Also, Apple does the same thing with iPhone. 1st gen had beautiful LCD's, then after a little while (and price drop) they started using a combo of good screens and really bad ones. And all iPhones after that (3G, 3GS, probably i4 too). You have to have the discerning eye though.

The overall construction of the case and the feel of the material is very cheap feeling now, at least compared to the original HD/Geometric. The original material just had a softer, much better feel to it. This "new" version feels hard and cheap. Similar to how doggfather speaks below of the subtle cheapening of the iPhone build construction after the original first gen.

If I had to venture a guess, I'd say it's a little bit of several factors...1) the fact that Apple is probably paying (to the manufacturers) a very small, way below normal wholesale price to the case manufacturers per case to participate in the free case program. 2) the sheer number of the PixelSkin HD's that Speck is having to provide for the free case program (there's what...near 4 million iPhone 4's sold so far, and only 8-10 free cases eligible?). If that's divided evenly among the free cases (which it's probably not), that's still A LOT of each case that has to be produced...probably more than Speck has ever produced for a specific case. 3) all of Speck's first run CandyShells had to be recalled/replaced due to the flash cutout interfering with flash photography. That was a lot of cases that they sent out and basically had to eat the cost of production of. All of these things combined probably has Speck looking for ways to lessen costs, which result in us noticing a "cheaper" feeling HD and even the newer, replacement CandyShells from what I read.

chrisd- thanks for those photos of the Incipio NGP matte smoke.

Went out to wally world and bought one last night. It's great!

Retiring Geometric for now. I'm sure I'll go back and forth though :)

For $20 too, wow. If you guys aren't happy with PixelSkin HD, I recommend Geometric if you don't mind the non-flat back (feels good in the hand, wobbles when you try to do stuff with it laying on the table -- not that big of a deal but still...) or the NGP matte which RULES!

I also have more faith in NGP matte protecting my phone than Geometric, but not by a ton. It just feels more solid.

You're welcome. And yeah, it's one of the best cases for the price that I've found. And you're also right about the fact that it seems like it might do a marginally better job in a drop with protecting the phone. Seems like the corners/edges/and front lip on the screen are slightly thicker, which might protect it a bit more. It's definitely better than this new PixelSkin HD in all areas.

yah, i'm pretty disappointed to hear about this. the thing is, most people getting it will have no clue that the case is actually cheaper than the original.

i was really looking forward to this case, but not anymore, as i'm pretty sure i'll be getting the revised version in the mail.

if i do get the revised version, the 1st thing i'm doing is emailing their customer service, because yes, i do feel a bit conned. if i knew it would feel cheap, i would have gotten something else.

I would say there's easier solutions.

Get the geometric if you feel robbed, assuming it hasn't changed from the version I have which is excellent.

Or sell off yours and find a reseller that has an older one and attribute the cost towards that.

For those of you that have the old version (keyhole cut out on the back), is yours a little loose on the sides? Like if you squeeze the sides of your phone can you sometimes feel a tiny bit of movement and hear a clicking sound?

I dunno about clicking, but my geometric has some wiggle room sometimes. The ngp matte is super tight though :)

Just emailed Speck. They replied but they did not deny changing to a cheaper version, just asked me for links to the reports i have read.

Nice one Speck

Just got off the phone with Eric from Speck. He said he's not sure if there are still "older" Generation cases around but he asked me to shoot their customer service department an email and they'll take care of me. It's either going to be them shipping me an older Pixelskin HD (already have a GeoMetric and I love it) or have Apple swap it out for something else, like convincing them to send me a white bumper :)

Anyway he's the email address, send your concerns over to them.

Keep us posted. I don't think I'm going to bother with customer service. After all, it's a freebie and Speck was very accomodating when I had a messed up CandyShell by sending me a geometric.

But still, I always like hearing what's up

He's already emailed me back. They are offering me a replacement but he didn't specify whether it would be the same thing or an older one.

If they can't offer an older generation one I think I'll go end up like a high school girl on the morning after prom and go with Plan B.

The PixelSkin HD is my favorite case. I bought an iFrogz on launch day, used that for a while then got a bumper. Returned the iFrogz and then ordered a PSHD. I've been using the PSHD since and I like it a lot. I have an Incase Snap coming from the case program, I'll give it a try but I bet I will go back to the speck.

Very disappointed to hear this. Was really looking forward to the PS HD, and now I just feel cheated. If I get the cheaper one, which I fully expect I will, I'll be contacting Speck.
