Read my post again.I very clearly stated product line .And I would like to see evidence of an iPhone resemblance which existed when Jobs invented iPhone .

Haha. The best selling tablet on the planet "a failure" .Good one . Maybe Tim just doesnt give it the attention it deserves like the other languishing product lines apart from iPhone
Okay, I'll split it with you. Timmy invented a new "item". An iphone resemblance? It's like saying the Financial Times invented the newspaper because it's different than the New York Daily New.

You are the one that in the past labeled the ipad as a "failure". So if the ipad isn't a "failure" than neither is the apple watch, the best selling smart watch on the planet. However, still remains, jobs missed the entire convergence thing, leading to the downturn of ipad sales.

Coming up with a product line is tough . Inventing the first iPhone was difficult. Once you come up with a successful product line and competitors start copying you (like Android in that era) and putting their own take and features on it all you gotta do to maintain your product line is to keep 1 eye on the competition and implement them in your product . That's all Timmy did with the 5s 6 etc
The phones you guys are showing me don't have a proper OS , no App Store, no Retina display despite being out for years . I have already shown you how Android would have panned out if Steve hadn't come out with the iPhone . They didn't copy the LG Prada or any such Phone . They copied Blackberry . Any phone apart from BB was crap . Steve changed all that by inventing a proper phone running a touchscreen of the existing phones with a proper OS

I said it's a failure because Timmy didn't give it the attention it deserves because like the accountant he is he focused on the singular cash cow .

iPads aren't given proper treatment in the TC era unlike Jobs . iOS updates are mainly for iPhone with some scraps thrown at the iPad . There is no attempt being made to take the example of the touchscreen ( I am on a 10 inch display and yet like a smartphone there is still no number key on keyboard . Seriosuly?) .iPhones are getting OLED next year while iPads won't . iPad design changes lag the iPhone . No wonder sales are declining

Surface or any 2 in one for that matter hasn't come close to the iPad in the 2 years or so they were introduced . iPad turned the market on its head within 2 years of introduction. I would say Steve did the right thing here . Had he focused on a Mac tablet it could have become just another Surface

Product sales tanking is solely Cook's fault .When Jobs was around Apple was destroying the competition. Also the Apple Watch sold so poorly Apple is embarrassed to give us sales numbers. Unlike Apple , Google and some of its partners admitted to giving up on wearables because of poor sales

I think Tim Cook just has a really low opinion of the average Apple customer. Bringing out some features on one device and omitting them on others. Who does he think he's fooling. It's just another sleight he thinks doesn't get remembered but they do

Don't think you need a MBA.

I mean, it's just Apple, this little company that Forbes and MSNBC, among other pundits that can't sell a newspaper if their life depended on it, soon they will be filling for bankruptcy and all...
Are you sure you finished that post. I am trying to make sense of it but unable too.

Inventing the iphone was a piece of cake. The various bits and pieces were in place since the 1980s. What's a proper OS? BB had a proper OS and apps. And I believe in various discussions, it was pointed out the idea of an "app store" already existed.

The ipad is a failure(according to you) because stevey left a big mess for timmy. In retrospect the ipad should never have been developed as it was; that was jobs big mistake, no wonder sales are declining.

You're right about one thing, surface can't touch the ipad for straight consumption and drawing. For maximum flexibility the sp4 destroys the ipad. I think a mac tablet would have been the way to go, but may timmy will float that idea.

And btw, apple is still destroying the competition.

The guy isn't a visionary nor a tech guy, he's just a bean counter. He can't control Jony Ives like Steve did, and Ives is going too far with his vision. At least Steve would always make Ives designs user friendly but he runs unchecked now.
Does he want to control him? I just feel like everything is in neutral and the main strategy is repackage, resell, repeat. That and stock options

Unfortunately,Blackberry or LG or IBM did not become the most valuable company relying on those "bits and pieces" despite having a head start on Apple till Steve came along . So what they did was an unfinished idea on paper . Driverless cars are currently an idea . "Bits and Pieces" already exist thanks to Tesla and Google . But until someone comes along and makes it mainstream at a proper price , THAT person will be counted as the inventor .

Deflection. You are avoiding my main points

iPad destroyed the competition both in terms of market share and profits within years of commencing production.Surface did not.So considering your favourite metric by which you judge product quality and customer satisfaction (as you continue to bring sales into every iPhone thread) ,people are more satisfied with iPads then Surface . In other words Stevey did the right thing . Too bad Timmy just isnt innovative enough to continue what he started

BTW whats stopping Tim from coming out with a Mac tablet to correct what Steve supposedly failed at?

OK not control Ives, but balance him. Steve always said, Apple is the intersection of art and science. Ives is leaning too much on the art side.

Was at my local apple store yesterday and even the employees that i know there for along time are saying they don't know whats going on at apple anymore, shaking the head in frustration. I have been Apple product user for years and the QA of Apple is going down the toilet for sure.

What does the most valuable company have to do with the mess stevey left timmy and declining ipad sales. And driverless cars and so on and so forth. Seems like deflections, false equivalencies, hyperbole are the order of the day.

The Apple Stores around me seem to have fewer customers inside lately. Everyone there is just getting things fixed. There are also like 30 people working for like 6 people in the store. When the stores first opened they would run on 3 people for the same crowd. There was also much more sales related volume then vs service.

I'm certain they just employ all those people to make it look like the stores are busy.. another Tim Cook marketing lie, all of which are ok if it means one more dollar goes into the bank

Most valuable company meaning Steve was the only one who brought all those "bits and pieces" together into a product which catapulted Apple into the stratosphere . The other companies made jumbled trash with those "bits and pieces" and went bankrupt

Driverless cars are a perfect analogy just like your newspaper example

Also you should read the front page of MR.Those $3000 laptops are plagued with one issue after another.I have faced lesser issues building my own custom PCs. Its as if Apple just doesn't care about either iPad or Mac . Timmy is solely focusing on just 1 product and destroying everything Steve built from the bottom up.I wonder how many declining quarters Apple will endure after 2017 till the board decides its time for someone new to make Apple great again

Most valuable company meaning Timmy had the foresight to invent the right products that catapulted Apple into the stratosphere.

So now, you're making a general assumption that every new Apple computer has an issue? Is that known as hyperbole?

Timmy needs to have the courage to clean up part of the mess that Steve left him. Won't have many fans, but he's doing what needs to be done.

When was the last time some of their computers were updated? Oh yeah, till a year after Steve's death

iPad was a market leader when Steve handed over to Timmy. Now it's tanking
Macs were truly glorious when Steve was around.Timmy made it a worthless piece of junk. I can't even replace or add an SSD/RAM and if something goes wrong, guess what, your data is screwed. The whole thing has to be trashed
iPhone has started its tanking course.Probably will peak next year before fizzling out

You are right,He won't make any fans but also investors . Only a matter of time before investors question the declinig quarters, lowest operating profit margin in 7 years ,the declining iPhone share etc

Timmy truly messed up the iPhone. First eve iPhone decline on his watch and it makes up 65% of the company.Thats gotta hurt

Pleasing the investors means the customers are pleased. So good job Timmy. iPad was a market leader but thanks to skins hobbling it, the competition has caught up.

And by the by, Timmy invented the iPhone 6, which catapulted Apple into the stratosphere.

No wonder you won't see eye to eye. You're attributing the iPhone 6 to Tim Cook!? Just because the housing for the components changed!? when the iPhone was already a mature product..

this is the type of creative work tim needs in his team, not to mention insulting beyond words to the team that actually built the iPhone not sat around in accounts measuring the profit others had generated.

Pro has become a marketing term that has no meaning other than increased price. Classic Tim Cook
[doublepost=1480463077][/doublepost]

If Apple had sprung into existence yesterday with its current lineup, I could see how some people could be happy. How can someone who has owned Apple computers for ~ 10 years be happy looking at where they have been and where they are now?

This raises a really interesting thought experiment:

If Apple sprang into existence today, fully formed, with all available apps and ecosystem waiting for you, how many people would choose to buy into Apple's product portfolio versus the competition? In other words, how much of Apple's appeal to us today is largely driven by inertia and familiarity?

I suspect that if I were coming into it blind and didn’t have any skills with any existing tools, I would think of Apple 2016 what critics said about Apple 1996: shiny overpriced gadgets that lack the power and features I think I want. All of the competitors have their own tradeoffs, but they're not ridiculous ones. And feeding Apple's 40% margins so they can add to their quarter trillion cash pile is not a good reason to pay more for less.

Easy. To reduce dependance on your phone. Many people don't even realize it, but their phone has become an appendage they never let get out of reach. They jump at the notification tone no matter what else they are doing. The Apple Watch exists because it frees you from your phone, and greatly reduces the distraction it causes in your life.

Strangely, it would appear that the logic fails in implementation. The watch is more dependent on the phone than we are. I can still perform my primary purpose without a phone. Yet the Apple Watch becomes practically useless as soon as it can't find your phone.

For example, if you don't have an iPhone, what use does the Apple Watch provide?

It's a bad strategy. If the watch was completely independent, and fully functional by itself, then it might be an interesting product.

If it was complimentary to my phone, that's fine. But it loses its reason to exist if I don't have a phone.

Consider a dog. It can live on its own and function in wild.

A man can likewise exist and function alone in the wild.

Both a man and a dog are defined and individually identified designs that are fully functional on their own.

Neither is lacking anything when left to exist on their own. They both have a purpose and can be self fulfilling.

But, beyond that, consider what happens when the dog finds the man, and they bond.

That is the kind of design strategy Apple needs to implement in their products. Individually amazing on their own. Fully functional independent operation. And when one finds the other, provides an unimaginable benefit to each other.

Saw that last weekend at the Stanford Shopping Center store. Front half of the store had products on display (why do you need 20 MacBooks, all the same). Mostly blue shirts, not that many shoppers.

Back half was the "genius" area - absolutely packed with people waiting to find out why their Apple didn't "just work".
