What's the excess on a screen replacement by apple? £200 for AC+ plus excess adds up

No. With the one you linked to from amazon you’ll get the same Charing speed as an iPad charger. If you want to get near the 50% in 30 mins you’ll need the 28w usb c. See apple’s small print under the tech specs for the 8.

Testing conducted by Apple in August 2017 using preproduction iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus units and software and accessory Apple USB-C Power Adapters (29W Model A1540, 61W Model A1718, 87W Model A1719). Fast-charge testing conducted with drained iPhone units. Charge time varies with environmental factors; actual results will vary.

That makes absolutely zero difference. Even if you supply a 100W USB-C charger (theoretical max that USB-C PD can handle), the phone will only accept a predefined amount of charge. For example, the Galaxy S8 accepts 11.7W from a 45W USB-C charger.

Apple only used its own chargers for testing because it makes them, you can use any other charger that's fast-charge capable and it will work fine. But yeah, if you have the money, you should go for Apple's own chargers, although they will be bulkier than some of the third party ones.

...there is actually only ONE thing which is bothering me!!!

I have never used a 'Plus' model iPhone in my entire life (barely even held one either!) and I am really apprehensive that when I come face to face with the iPhone 8 Plus, it is gonna feel and look like a monster!!!

From the many vids I have watched on YouTube (7 vs 7 Plus!), it is clear a 'Plus' model iPhone is not a 'one handed device' - is this true?!?! I remember making the jump from iPhone 5 to iPhone 6 and initially hating the larger screen size as I felt it was just too big - but I eventually got used to it! I'm wondering if it will be the same with making the 7 to 8 Plus jump...?!!!!!

The 8 plus is a bigger phone but you'll soon get used to it.

I don't think it is a one handed phone and I love the screen on my 7+ I am slightly worried I might not like the smaller size of the X but keeping the 7+ until it arraives to be sure.

Plus, if you dropped it and damaged it early (say in first month), it would get 'repaired' by whoever your insurance chose, but your remaining 11 months warranty would be invalid.

So your £1100 iPhone X, if something failed, Apple would almost certainly refuse to fix it under warranty.

I know AC is expensive, but valid warranty, worldwide cover and instore repairs/replacements win out every time for me.

I never thought about an insurance repair invalidating the warranty on a phone. I suppose one way around it is to completely destroy the phone so they need to replace instead but then you might end up with a refurb phone with no or less warranty. God why is insurance such a con!!!

What's the excess on a screen replacement by apple? £200 for AC+ plus excess adds up

"With AppleCare+ included, you get up to two years of hardware repairs, software support, and coverage for up to two incidents of accidental damage, each subject to an excess fee of £25 for screen replacement or £79 for any other damage.
AppleCare+ for iPhone X is £199, for iPhone 8 Plus is £149 and for iPhone 8 is £129 when sold separately."

I've never had any problems using mine one-handed. Don't forget you can double-tap (not double-press) on the Home button to lower the top half of the screen nearer to your thumb :) (I think it's called Reachability).

Exactly.

Applecare was £79 (?) which meant that I would have been paying £25 on Wednesday for my new screen, instead of circa £155, so I'm already £50 down.

I've got the 29w Apple one in my office at home and a couple of Anker 24w ones around the house.

My 7+ pretty much goes all day, so invariably only gets put on charge at night, same for iPad.

Worth mentioning that you pay the same for AC+ as part of iUP... there is no premium

Has anyone seen if the X will have reachability somehow? I know the standard 6s/7's have it, and the X is bigger so????

you might need to re-read the thread history

the charger quoted by CD3660 is not USB-C (unless I'm missing something) thus missing USB-C Power Delivery

Such as this I presume?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Charge-Ank...id=1505707580&sr=8-3&keywords=18w+usb+charger

A huge saving of £39 over the £49 Apple charger. Personally I have always found Anker products to be of very good quality.

I'm not advocating buying an Apple branded charger over any other brand, just stating to achieve the fast charge timings suggest by Apple you're going to need a 29w USB-C charger or similar. Clearly you can buy other chargers at different power levels and result will vary.

You’re going to want a 29w usb-c charger or similar (like the ones shipped with the MacBook) to get the best wired charge speed

I read that the X does not support reachability. http://appleinsider.com/articles/17...ple-apparently-drops-support-for-reachability

See I am less certain now that there is no white bezel around the screen!! Am swaying towards the silver for a change from black/space grey and to get the white back...............but I do like black/space grey

most of the footage of the X I've seen has been the silver... Defo the one I'm getting (ATM :D)

Exactly that, Fast charge is nice to have if you need a quick boost at short notice, but most people charge their phones by the bed over night so USB-C fast charge would be an expensive bonus if you don't already own the kit.

So I'm guessing everybody is buying outright
£70 a month for a phone is just outrageous lol which is what most networks are charging

Probably going with O2 tbh - Current customer, eligible for upgrade etc.

There was a post before that actually broke down O2's tariff and it wasn't as bad value as I initially thought.

For the first time since 2010's iPhone 4, I'm not buying outright.

I've got a really good Vodafone SIM Only deal (40Gb/unltd/unltd) for £16 per month, but Ive decided to get in on the iUP action, as I can get £477 for my 7+, so will use that to reduce/eliminate my monthly payments until upgrade time next year! :D

Any benefit in that model vs this?

They’re pretty similar but I prefer the shape of this one and the LED lights in it seem to work slightly differently.

Not in a hurry for a Charger as I’m waiting on the X.

Had the Apple leather case on my past two iPhone's but I may go nude again with this. Depends on how grippy and robust the glass is in terms of scratches.

Is it just me or are 02 the most expensive network which is funny when they are probably the worst network when it comes to data speeds?

I was even looking at their note 8 deals and they start at like £58 a month and that's with 25% discount off airtime I get ..I mean really.....

What deal have 02 offered you? Also have you checked out Virgin mobile? Apparently they have some good reasonable deals....

I've always found O2 to be quite reasonable.
They've not offered any deals - the tariffs are not available yet only indicative pricing which is basically £72 & £77 a month. If I upgrade with O2 I'll lay some more money upfront to bring that down. As a current O2 customer I'll also get an extra 10GB of data a month which essentially allows me to pick a cheaper tariff and not be worse off.

I think Virgin do 36 month contracts and thats why they can be cheaper.

EE are more expensive but their speeds are great which is why i guess.

I fear they will charge at least £80 a month for the 256GB model. Although the data they are giving you 100GB a month i believe.
