I've got a flight to catch on X release day, so am looking at ways of ensuring I get the X before midday when I have to leave for my flight.

Still undecided on whether to go on contract with EE or buy outright with Apple

Can anyone confirm, if placing at order at 8:01 on the 27th.... will it give you slots straight away to do an in-store pick-up? I'm thinking maybe I can try and get an AM slot on the 3rd to pickup my phone from an apple store, and make it to the airport for my 3pm flight!

Alternatively, does anyone know if you selected the 'Pickup from EE store' when ordering a contract through them, do they get the phones the day before, or does DPD just deliver to them on the day?

Thanks

I don't think you get will get pick-up option due to the demand. You only get pick-up if the (Apple) store has lots of stock.

If you pickup from EE, then you will get a text from DPD when it's ready for collection from the EE store:

If you’ve chosen to have your order delivered to an EE store, DPD will send you a text letting you know when it has arrived and is ready for collection

I thought pickup was just like ordering but you’re collecting in store - so they deliver early to the store? I wouldn’t expect it to be based on store stock allocations?

Would be good to get clarification because this could make me switch to home delivery. And that would require a day off work..

Well pick up simply means DPD will deliver it to an EE store from EE's warehouse, instead of your house. That's the only difference. All the stock is stored in EE's warehouse and is offered on a first come first serve basis (obviously).

hey guys, just wondered, is there a set time pre orders go live next friday? or is it still unconfirmed. just wondered what time i need to be on my computer!

cheers will give this a shot, shouldnt have any issue with just purchasing outright on credit card and delivering to my home address right?

Shouldn’t be an issue. Make sure the phone you want, in the right colour and storage, is in your ‘favourites’ in the Apple Store app, then it’s click-and-go. Every second counts.

Maybe make sure your credit card company knows there will be a ~£1000 charge so they don’t flag it as fraud.

thanks good points, can i add it now? also does the card need to be assigned to the appled ID before hand or can i enter details there and then?

You can add to favourites right now, yeah.

I would advise getting credit card details into the app before The Morning (of truth).

You don’t want to slip from ‘Nov 3rd’ Estimated Shipping Date to ‘6-8 weeks’ just because of a typo entering your credit card details!

thanks i have the 64GB in grey in my favourites now, will sort the card stuff and be there at 8.01. im sure it might be too specific to know, but do you need to keep refreshing the app somehow to click the buy button when selection is allowed?

Close the app and reopen it. I mean close it by double pressing the home button, and then swiping the app up to fully close it, so it has to fully re-open from scratch.

fair enough, seems slow if its not available when you look then have to shut it down you could miss them all!

Need to make a decision really before the 24th when the sim only promotion runs out on EE on whether to stay with Vodafone or not.

Or knowing my luck they will do an even better promotion after.

Also going to order a case, skin and screen protector on the 25th Oct so they all arrive in time.

I’m waiting, whilst the current offer finishes I think there’ll be an equivalent straight after. They’d not want to miss out by putting prices up just as a mass of people are picking networks.

My Vodafone contract is up in November.

I currently have 64GB grey and 64GB silver in favourites. I think I’m settled on silver so will delete the grey and add the 256gb silver as a backup in case the 64 is not available quickly

At the moment I can’t decide if:

Option A; buy iPhone X on credit card for delivery, at home on Nov 3, then try and go to store to jump on the upgrade programme. Or;
Option B; order iPhone X then select the upgrade programme, select time to collect in store.
Option A will be faster to order, Option B, while the "correct" way to order on the upgrade programme, will take more "moves" and my result in missing out on a Nov 3 IPhone X.
Any thoughts about this?

A and then B and then cancel A if B is available

Think option A will be the quickest route I would imagine.

Surely A won’t work? You’d need to order and pay, but for store pickup -then when you get to the store you try to switch it to IUP. If you get it delivered to your house how will you convert it?

Be aware for those doing a balance transfer even though it’s 0% there will be a fee for the transfer, usually 3%. If transferring from another card will add ~£30 (for a £999 transfer) to the total

**update** just saw that some of the Halifax cards are 0% fee too

Yes that was really only why I posted it. I don't remember the last time I seen a balance transfer offer with nil transfer fee. Most of them are fee free for first 90 days of getting the card.

Not that am trying to get anyone into debt or take out more credit cards......

Good point. But worth it for the speed of preordering and not fussing about with credit applications in store

As above there is no transfer fee on these cards and also in addition to speed and reducing in store fuss for preordering it means no need to pay £69 upfront (no big deal) and prob easier to settle or pay off quicker than Barclays finance (providing you don't keep spending on it - I usually cut up if using for a one off purchase :D).

I think I will try to buy outright on credit card first for speed and then possibly try to reserve in store for apple payments plan.

Your options are:

A) pay outright for home delivery
B) pay outright for store collection
C) reserve for in store IUP

If you reserve for IUP you can pay outright when you get there if you change your mind or Barclays decline you. If you pay outright for home delivery or store delivery you could take it to Apple ask them to refund it and re-purchase it on the IUP.
