Is there a way to get approved for iPhone payments before pre ordering? Just to save tie on the morning.

Impossible. You can only reserve for IUP via the store/app from Friday. No wat to opt for IP online. All this will do is reserve you a handset at the store of your choice (that’s if there is stock to do so). No payment will be taken and you MUST go in store at the appointment slot to sign up. At that point you can stay with IUP or change to payments plan or pay outright. You will only know if you’ve passed the credit check at that point.

Just had a really good chat with an Apple rep on their chat, he basically told me if the credit card is subject to a fraud check and the payment declines they will try again 3 times a day for 7 days. I asked if this happened and I had to contact my bank to get the payment to go through and by this time delivery had slipped to say 6-8 weeks would I have to wait that long to get it or would I keep my place in the queue and he told me I'd have to wait. He suggested buying a gift card to avoid that happening as any fraud checks can be dealt with before 27/10, anyone tried this? is it much slower to buy using a gift card that apple pay?

He also said they have a limit of 2 per Apple ID so that should put a stop to some scalpers at least!

Your shipping time wont slip if they have to retry payment.

Also, even if you inform your bank, a fraud check can still take place. It's automatic and there's no way to bypass it, even if you inform your bank.

I wouldn't recommend going the gift card route unless you're not planning to return the phone, because Apple wont give you cash or transfer the amount to your bank, you'll get a £999/1149 gift card (value of the phone) back, which you can't transfer to your bank.

Wouldn’t do the gift card route personally. If you ever needed to refund the phone or wanted to give it back, you’ll be lumbered with £1000 of Apple vouchers! Also the protection you get from your credit card provider would not be applicable.

Tbh the only times I’ve seen people’s purchase get flagged as suspicious on the card has been after the pre order and around the time the phone ships. This is when Apple will put the full charge on your card.

In the past people who have had this part declined have then been able to sort it out with their bank and not impacted their delivery date.

CPW cannot guarantee you an IP X on release day. If they could they would state it on the website as part of the terms and conditions. The phone stores and sales staff are only interested in getting you to splash the cash and will say what you want to hear, knowing full well they cannot be held accountable. Plenty claim they will get you a phone on the day of release but they do not know the stock levels allocated to them until the day before. You then find as was the case last year they then send apology emails saying shipment won't now be on release day but on another date. However, it does provide another option to pursue for the day, but don't put all your eggs in one basket. The best retailers for outright purchase in the UK remain John Lewis and Apple. Sometimes, you may strike lucky on the day by walking into a store and they may have one for sale which has happened to me on two occasions in the past.

How do I use this https://www.apple.com/uk/iphone/trade-up/ to get a x? Could I reserve a phone for iup and then trade it in and buy the phone outright at the appointment? Seems cheeky!

You go to the store, and trade in your current iPhone and they will subtract its value from X's price, and then you can purchase the X.

Or you can mail in the phone and you will get a gift card by email that you can use towards the new purchase (either online or in-store)

Sorry, should have said get the x on release day. Normally can't just reserve a phone, gotta pay for delivery at store.

The price is not the most competitive, I was getting a better price from other recyclers. Offered £380 compared to £415 from others (for a 7+)

If you reserve online for store pickup you have to pay upfront. So how do you trade in?

Would be a convenient way to get rid of my 6s

It’s not a trade in as such then. It would be just like any other recycler where you send the phone off.

One way it would work is not buying outright, but signing up for IUP. When you go in store to get your phone you can trade in then

Will be for everybody

I thought there was a need to sign the new credit agreement in person for UK IUP... good if it’s not the case.

If you could do it all online you’d think new IUP customers would be able to do it all online too.

The link also didn’t seem to appear in the UK site, well not earlier today anyway

Can't see why it would not be for UK. The process will be the same afterall. guess we will see on the 23rd

Looks like it's usa only right now, I guess they are just getting the security checks done first so that none are needed on pre-order day?

We won’t get this because in the Us, customers on the IUP can upgrade online and have their new iPhone mailed to them and send the old one back therefore the credit check is done online. In the UK, we have to reserve from the store stock and then go in to collect and it’s at that point the credit check is done.

So I have 8 Apple gift cards worth £580 stored in my Wallet app on my iPhone. (I asked family members to get me gift cards for my birthday recently). I intend to use these to make a part payment on my iPhone X next Friday, and pay the remainder off on my debit card.

Will the store allow me to pay partly by gift card, and partly by debit card like this? Or do I have to pay all in one method?

You can use up to 8 gift cards + one debit/credit card to pay, so you’ll be fine.
